COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Columbus police said they arrested Steelers first-round draft pick Santonio Holmes Monday morning on a domestic violence charge.

Sgt. Loucious Hollis said Holmes was arrested at an apartment just after midnight and taken to the Franklin County Jail. He will make his first court appearance Tuesday morning.

Police are declining to provide details of Holmes' arrest or the allegations against him.

This is Holmes' second arrest since he was drafted by the Steelers in the first round of April's NFL draft. He was charged with disorderly conduct at a Florida hotel over the Memorial Day weekend.

Not sure exactly what that means but it doesn't sound good.

I am so glad we didn't look WR like some wanted. We got a high character guy. The last 2 drafts have focused on this trait and I love it.

Did Holmes get in trouble or have problems at Ohio State?

I don't remember hearing of any big problems.

WR + Off-field Issues = Great NFL WR.

I am not excusing the douch bag, but isn't eerily how most talented WRs always tend to be bad boys or idiots off the field.

He gets my early ROY vote for 2006.

Lawrence Taylor wasn't a high character guy. Ware is. But if another LT came along in a draft, I'd rather have him than Ware.

Randy Moss had character issues. Greg Ellis didn't.

If two equal talent players are available; then yes, I would go with the high character guy. But it the talent level differential is very noticable, I'd go with the more talented guy.

Disclaimers:
I am not saying that all poor characters end up being great, great talents...

But if they are talented, I don't think we should pass on them bec of character issues necessarily.

I am not suggesting someone with more talent than Carpenter, but higher character issues, was available, necessarily.

Yes he did. He was busted while visiting a massage parlour. He claimed that he was there to get a deep-tissue massage and had no idea other activities were going on. He was exonerated but most people, including me, felt he got off because of who he was and who he played for (evidently the San Fran cops aren't like the Dallas police).

I don't remember the year it happened but it was while he was still playing for the 49ERs in the mid-late 90s.

This guy seemed so down to earth in his draft interviews. And you never heard anything bad happening in college. What the hell happened?
