Winning 12 games and a playoff game isn't mediocre.
It ain't great either.

Isn't the goal to be great?

The roster we currently have isn't good enough. Why run it back with basically the same people? Why not move on from Elliott, who has a big cap hit (even if you cut his pay) and is in decline and basically is nothing but a short yardage back at this point?

They literally could cut the entire starting 11 on offense other than Dak, replace them with UDFAs and you'd praise it.

Complete and utter failure is what we should all be hoping for if we want the future of the Cowboys to be better.

Continuing to wallow in mediocrity with the core guys like Dak and Zeke will only lead to failed playoff success and embarssment each year.

The best case scenario for the Cowboys would be horrible play that forces this FO to move on from a few of these anchors.
I will never wish for complete and utter failure. I've seen that already in 1988, 1989, 2000, 2001, 2002, and 2015. Don't need to see that ever again. I'll take 12 win seasons any time over that.
You seem to have more confidence in Jerruh correctly using high draft picks to build a winner back than I do.

QB: Dak Prescott
RB: Ezekiel Elliott
WR: Ceedee Lamb
WR: Odell Beckham Jr.
WR: Michael Gallup
TE: Jake Ferguson
LT: Tyler Smith
LG: Jason Peters
C: Tyler Biadasz
RG: Zack Martin
RT: Tyron Smith

You can flip flop Tyler Smith and Jason Peters but I'm betting they will want to keep the old man in a phone booth rather than out on the edge. That's the OL until Steele comes back. Then you shift Tyron over and move Tyler to LG.

I wish I expected more but I don't. Seeing Zeke in there is inexcusable but I really believe that unless he turns down a pay cut he will be back in the same role he had this year. Disgusting.

It's not enough. We need more around this QB. Particularly at RB and TE. I'd rather have someone other than OBJ too. If this group is an upgrade over last year I'd call it only a minor one as while OBJ improves the WRs, Schultz is a better receiver than Ferguson.

With McCarthy taking over the offense Im holding out hope that will lead to more personnel changes than this but knowing how this front office operates, that's my guess at how this all shakes out for the opener.

Can’t see Zeke as the starter he doesn’t provide near enough juice. Late in the season his carries were decreasing. If Pollard walks they’ll have to do something at RB.
Could be an interesting little battle between the two Jones nitwits and McCarthy/coaches.

Listening to Stephen just a few days ago he was praising Elliott and almost threw shade at Pollard. He most certainly seemed to be making the case Elliott was more important. But as you said, Elliott saw his carries decline which means the coaching staff clearly thought Pollard was the better choice over Elliott.

Are the Jones' going to shove Elliott down McCarthy's throat? Would be a total mistake but ohhhhhhh soooooo Jones boys.

That’s not their MO though. They’ve done some stupid things but if they don’t bring back Pollard no way do they just go with Zeke. They’d draft someone and then it would be a tandem.
Pollard is a fans RB in their opinion lol.

OBJ will be the big free agent pick up Jerry will say shows they are risk takers like the Eagles, etc. In fact, he will say Dallas is better because OBJ is not a risk financially, talent wise, and character.

Just in time for a 9 or 10 win season.

I have zero confidence in Jerry.

But I know his ego will cause him to do things he normally wouldn't at 3-14 with horrible QB play than it would getting beat out in the Wild Card or Divisional Round every year.

Both Jerry and Stephen were praising Zeke during their interviews this past week. They were both asked about if they wanted Zeke back and it was one of those what else are they suppose to say? They certainly couldn’t say no. Stephen went on to say this is a business for the team and the players and didn’t assure Zeke would be back. No way could they lose Pollard and stay with Zeke and be a better team next season. You can’t just go with a back that’s pushing the pile for a few yards and not have any explosiveness back there. We can’t move on from a playmaker and keep a plodder.

Well then I'm not sure you really know what you're talking about.

The losing in the late 80s brought you Jimmy. The losing in the early 00s brought you Parcells to bring the team back to relevancy.

Lean years can pay big dividends.

Let's see how the draft goes and how the coaches handle things, but I think we might be closer than we think. I think that adding a WR, RB, and NT would be hugely helpful. If we can do those things going into next season, I'd feel very good. Especially if we can also get one of the Japanese kickers I've been eyeing up. Also, there's a WR in Japan by the name of Matsui who I'd love if they'd sign. He's 6'7 and 194. Wouldn't cost much, but he's a solid WR there, and I think he could do some very good stuff for us.

And Clappy brought us Big Mike.

He's an upgrade but he can't play QB or RB he's saddled with the $200 million combo

I knew in August that we were doomed....and OBJ is NOT the answer....after seeing the episode on the plane, I especially want NO part of him.
What did he do on the olane? From what I saw he wasn’t the one in the wrong.

For those of you who think I'm joking, I have a thread with a video that shows who I'm talking about. There are some decent options in Japan if we wanted to expand our horizons a bit.

They took one with their second pick in the 4th round. So expect another 4th rounder this year.

Especially with Jerry eyeing up Duggan. Which is exactly what I want with QB. I want us taking Duggan this year, take another next year, and let them battle it out for the starting job when Dak's contract is up. Winner starts, loser is traded.
