If Phillips is winning he will have nothing to worry about. I disagree with the poster who says Jerry wants to put people in the seats so you do that by hiring a coach like Cowher? You put people in the seats by winning!!!

The Cowboys made the playoffs last year and there were empty seats throughout the stadium (except the Indianapolis game). Jerry fired Jimmy Johnson after 2 Super Bowl wins......

Garrett is the next coach of the Cowboys. I don't think it will be next year, but clearly he is being set up to be the coach of the forseeable future.

You're right. The only thing stopping Garrett is Garrett. Unless the Cowboys offense slips to the bottom of the league, he'll be fine.

Many of those seats in individual seats as people buy tickets they tend to do so in groups which leave many individual seats remaining and like most teams the Cowboys will buy those seats up. I have been attending games at Texas Stadium since the place was built and the only time I have seen thousand of empty seats was in the late 80's. What it comes down to is winning if the Cowboys are doing that then trying to buy tickets becomes much harder. I have experience both during losing times when getting a ticket was no big deal to SB years where they sold out most of the schedule before the season started.

You never know....... It already happened this year with the 2007 Texas Rangers. Manager Buck Showalter who built not one, but two different franchises into World Series Champions came to Texas to turn them around. Under Showalter, the Rangers were competitive, but didn’t achieve the dreams or aspirations of the Yankees and Diamondbacks that Showalter built earlier. The Rangers hire a new coach in 2007. The players are ecstatic!!! They whine and complain that Showalter was too tough on them and was dictatorial in his managerial style. They all welcome the new "player-friendly" manager in Ron Washington. What happened to them this year? The Texas Rangers are the worst team in baseball, and a laughing stock. Could it happen with the Cowboys? Anything is possible. Jerry still has to sell those million dollar suites and justify regular ticket price increases. That would be hard to do with a 5-11 team coached by non-quotable nice guy.

The parallels are terrifying.

The last home game of the 2006 season was 3/4 full if that.......and they were a playoff team then....

I'll educate you and give you a dose of reality about Texas Stadium and the fans who attend the games, since you have some warped pious vision of the Cowboys and local Cowboys fans. When the Cowboys have a losing team, the "fans" stay home. Period. End of Story. You can sit in the stadium, throw a stone, and unless you have great aim not hit a person. There will be thousands upon thousands of empty seats. When the Cowboys have a winning team, the stadium still has a lot of empty seats, except for the rare occasion like the 2006 Indianapolis game. The "sold out streak" Jerry likes to claim is a facade. Whatever available seats remain the week before the game are purchased by Jerry Jones so the game doesn’t get blacked-out in the local market. The new stadium is not being built "because" they are the Dallas Cowboys. The new stadium is being built because Jerry Jones is the savviest businessman in all of pro football, and most other sports. If you actually speak to Jerry and Stephen behind closed doors they will be the first to tell you that without a high profile coach like Parcells in 2003, this stadium deal may not get done. You give way too much credit to the mystique of the Cowboys from the 1970s carrying into everything they do. According to you, Bum Bright would have negotiated the stadium just as well as Jerry with a 5-11 Campo coached team (or an 0-16 team coached by me).
:laugh2: :lmao:

that's a load of hammered moose manure. NO ONE is going to build a multi-billion $$$ stadium on the off beat chance someone that's already retired, twice, will stick around long enough to even set foot on it w/any current ties to the cowboys org.

"hey - let's build a billion dollar stadium - we've got parcells!"
"will he be here long?"
"who knows but he's here now so that's enough isn't it?

something tells me they put a LITTLE more thought into spending a billion dollars than that.

The game on New Years eve aginst the Lions? If you think fans go to the game to watch the coach your wrong people will go to Dallas games if the team is winning. No one buys a ticket to see a coach standing on the sidelines. 1st year a big name guy will help but beyond that it comes down to winning.

And most of those are no shows. That area tends to be season ticket holders who are getting the 1st shot at the tickets but are still considered sold. The game was on New Years eve and Dallas win or lose was not going to change their seeding for the playoffs.

I believe Wade was brought in because he is an aggressive 304 defense guy... Jerry feels that we didnt attack/execute to our defense's potential therefore leading to our skid at end of year and loss in playoffs....

Jerry is trying a quick fix with Wade... quite possibly a one year deal/try.

I would not be suprised if he signed Cowher next year. 5 year deal highest ever for a coach.

Cowher has playoff wins. One helped SB.

Jerry would bring him in if for nothing else.... the playoff wins that have been eluding us for over a decade now.

For the record. I dont want Cowher.... maybe if his name was Cowhim LOL

Is the conclusion from that one example that player-friendly coaches can never work?

Because Ron Washington, a first-time manager of a historical trainwreck of a franchise, has been a failure to this point?

not at all. I'm just being the typical Devils Advocate ******* I always am. :lmao: But seriously, anything is possible in Jerry World. One thing Jerry is not is predictable.

I guess Jerry had them in mind with the planning of the new stadium: less bathrooms in order to keep people in their seats. We need more die hards and less wine and cheesers in the new stadium.

I think the "Chin" is over-rated quite frankly.

I think he's a poor man's Parcells.

While I'm not a huge Son-of-Bum fan I don't see him getting axed after one year to bring Cowher.

A very poor man's Parcells... I'm talking about living in the van down by the river poor comparatively... or living under a bridge poor. You get what I mean. :banghead:

I don't think it will happen, but I honestly never know with this team. Heck, Wade could have an 8-8 season and Jerrah could still end up firing Wade.
I am not saying it is probable but crazier things have happened.

Unfortunately, I bet it only gets worse with the new palace of a stadium where ticket prices will be even higher. :(

But on Cowher -- I bet the *last* thing on Jerry's mind is hiring a different coach. I think Jerry's ultimate dream is Wade working out and winning a bunch of playoff games. Wade's laid-back, non-anal style is so perfect for Jerry. Now all he needs is success on the field.

Chances of Cowher ever being here -- less than 5%.

5% is a lot more than zero percent. :D With $3.5 million dollar suites to sell, Jerry could panic and make an impulse move - the same move he doesn't want Romo to make.

While that may be true but how many of us or what percentage of us thought TO was going to end up wearing the Cowboys uniform?

We have seen some strange occurances in the world of sports, unexpected signings and hirings and so on, so I would say anything is possible, especially when Jerry Jones (or likes of M. Cuban, who are highly unpredictable) is involved.

Jerry is all about selling tickets. He knew that hiring Bill Parcells would get a stadium built in Arlington. Cowher will put people in the seats, not Phillips. I dont think it would be the right move, but it wouldnt surprise me if Jerry hired Cowher next year.

People will buy tickets to see their favorite team and players. How many people do you know say I'm going to see the coach....
I heard so many people make the statement, well I use to go or watch or like the Cowbys until the way they fired Landry......But as soon as they were winnig, they were right here rooting for them.

This stadium will sell itself.
