Schefter asked two NFL people about Prescott

I would think Precott would have to win a few Super Bowls for this to be the best draft under Jones. The 1989 haul of Troy Aikman, Daryl Johnston, Mark Stepnoski, and Tony Tolbert comes to my mind as the best; followed closely by 1991.
it has the potential to be the Free Agency era draft. I read enough reports from folks that know more then i ever will, to be all in.
Plus we didn't draft Prescott with the first over all. Then there's Zeek and Smith and considerably more.

FWIW...

Adam Schefter:
I spoke to a couple of different people this week, who, when they'd heard all this Dak Prescott conversation, went and looked at the film of the guy. They were blown away at the decisions he was making, the skills he demonstrated, looking downfield, playing like a veteran. You could say, "It's preseason." That's what I said. I talked to a couple of people and asked, "What do you think? Is this overblown? Are we getting too excited over a guy after two preseason games?" And they went and looked at the film and said, "This guy has got it. He's got it. They've found their quarterback of the future." If they did hit on that pick the way that other highly intelligent people think they hit on the pick, they're set for the next 12-15 years.

I am guessing one of the people he spoke to was the liquor store guy, any idea who the other person was he spoke to?

Yeah, if you can get a starting franchise quarterback in the 4th round in this era? Grand Slam Home Run. Even if every other draft pick was a complete bust.

It's obviously premature, but the results so far have been spectacular.

I have to constantly tell myself to slow down, that it has been a very small sample size.... But boy oh boy that sample size. Those little nuances within the sample size, the poise, confidence, accuracy and timing, et al -- I get giddy :)

I think there's only one more hurdle for Dak Prescott to clear. Let's see how he responds when he has an awful game. I hate to say it, but it's coming. He is a rookie, after all. And when he bounces back from adversity, and I believe he will, then we can say quarterback won't be a problem here for another decade-plus.
Against the Rams Dak responded to a 2nd and 25 situation and managed to get enough yards for a comfortable field goal for Dan Bailey, instead of panicking and going for the big plays to make up for his and the team's mistakes. Then Against Miami Dak has his worst throw of the preseason on an interception that was taken back thanks to a late hit. A bad interception like that can rattle a QB, but Dak came back and lead the team to a touchdown drive. That's some serious poise right there, even if it's against vanilla defenses. And that's something that can't be taught.

Jerry gets zero credit here.Credit goes to lLnehan and our coaching staff who were enamored with him from Senior bowl.Jerry wanted to draft 5 other Qbs and had to "settle" for Dak.
why you you hold that opinion or even need to say that?

I can't figure out which draft pics are Jerrys and which aren't. I know the draft pics he wanted to make but Didn't or couldn't and those pics failed are his, so I get that. But the pics that work out I'm totally lost, Stephen and the puppet coach I guess talked him out of drafting

i would enjoy seeing GM Jerry sport a Quincy Carter Jersey just to troll the haters. Wouldn't you?

Dude just looks better equipped than Goff and Wentz and any other QB before or after him mentally and physically. Dallas could be on the cusp of the best QB taken since I dunno when. Could we be that lucky? He literally fell into our laps after trying to reach for Lynch and Connor.

Maybe there is a football god after all.
The tied may have turned man! Bought time now let's get romo a sb!

I always was a fan of his at Miss St. He just played with terrible skill players but I thought he had a lot of potential. And glad we took him in the draft. Outside of Zeke, easily our next best pick.

I just hope the fanbase is patient. He will obviously have growing pains like any player when teams get film and when he faces more exotic defenses. But I'm excited to see the future with him.

Exactly. It seems for some, every good decision has to be Garrett's or whomever, but every bad decision is Jerry's. That is unfair.

I dont think its that extreme, all decisions happen under his watch to be sure, most of which are delegated but he appears to step in occasionally and force some picks, like recent years 2nd rounders. They seem right in his wheel house, i.e. loves high risk, high reward. Hard to say for sure because so many things are obfuscated by the organization but I feel pretty certain he'd be crowing to the high heavens if he was responsible for some great decision that actually worked out.

I speculate he was kind of doing this in advance when he publicly distanced himself from the Zack Martin pick by saying passing on a guy like Johnny Football was a sure path to 8-8. I think he wanted to be on record so he could say "I told you so" when Johnny turned out to be what he envisioned. It was so delicious to see that rammed up his ***.

He kind of did the same thing with Lynch this year by telling the world how he couldn't sleep by missing out on that pick.

He does this **** to himself with his big mouth.

Cant remember who said it around here but I thought it was accurate, praising jeri for football decisions is like praising your alcoholic uncle for not showing up drunk and ruining your wedding (I'm sure I butchered the original quote).

I hope so, I truly do. If the Cowboys hit on Dak with the 135th overall pick, that's the only thing people will remember about this draft. Imagine, now, if Zeke is an all pro back and Jaylon Smith gets healthy.
Well, I am looking forward to the other guys too. I do think we need to be a bit more patient with them though. Most of them have nagging injuries. I do think Anthony Brown can develop into another Orlando Scandrick.

Imagine if:
1)Elliot - becomes the superstar franchise rb most experts saw l in him
2) Jaylon Smith- nerves fully regenerate and becomes that superstar LB that most experts saw in him prior to the injury
3) Prescotts becomes that franchise qb.

Holy crap....

An before you start Debbie downers be quiet...you can't regulate my dreams...

dream on brother, I hope they all come true

I don't think you should give him credit because I believe Stephen Jones, Will McClay, and Garrett are much more involved in personel decisions now than Jerry does. But if you are going to blame Jerry Jones for recent draft busts, then you cant qualify the ones that work out. Seattle wouldn't have won their championship if they didn't stumble on guys like Wilson, Sherman, and Bennett. You aren't going to win championships if you don't stumble on a few gems in today's NFL.

I'll give him so credit, but you're 100% about having to luck into some picks.

If true, the Jerry haters won't know what to do. How can we not give him credit other than, he really wanted Manziel?
He actually really wanted Lynch, and then really wanted Cook, but I will give him credit that he got his 3rd choice right if it works out..

Too early to tell, but if you can find your franchise QB in the 4th round it's a turning point for the franchise.

You're spared wasting high draft picks year after year trying to pick the right guy, waiting 3-4 years and trying to figure it out. Not to mention the money saved in not signing an overpriced FA.
