Ehhhhhh, let's recall that said owner GM was also ready to draft Connor Cook around this part of the draft, who is a bum. I really cringe to think what would have happened at our 4th round comp pick if both Cook and Prescott were there.

Thats always the scenerio though. There is usually someone you liked better but missed on due to not seeing value in taking them sooner. We got Dak, wether he was our first choice or not, we liked him and drafted him. They should recieve credit for that. Goodness knows if he looked like garbage no one would be bailing Jerry out saying Cook was his first choice.

Jerry gets zero credit here.Credit goes to lLnehan and our coaching staff who were enamored with him from Senior bowl.Jerry wanted to draft 5 other Qbs and had to "settle" for Dak.

Who do you think hired "Linehan and our coaching staff"?

Because he's playing with a better offense and he may just be a better QB. One thing about SEC QB's, well two things. One, they're usually not great NFL QBs (see Mettenburger, Russell and Tebow) and two, they do play and practice against the better defenses. One reason Dak wasn't projected above the 3rd round because in the accuracy department he was not good in 2015 and actually regressed.

He has caught everyone by surprise including all of the astute talent guys in the NFL. No one saw this coming but the real question is still the same. When it gets real, how will be perform? When the pressure comes and he's not playing catch with his receivers, how will he do? Until we get to see that in some form of sustained action, it's all just conjecture at this point. When the DC's prepare for him specifically, we will know a lot more.

He didn't regress his Sr. year at State... the talent around him fell way off. From everyone I've talked to (I live in Miss and talk to State fans all the time) and from what I saw myself, he actually improved his play and his accuracy his Sr. season but his support just wasn't there, so the numbers weren't quite the same.

As a matter of fact, I heard a couple of Draft Experts on TV say the same thing before the draft this year. I think Daniel Jeremiah was one of them. He said that he got better each year... by noticeable amounts... but his Sr. numbers weren't quite as good because of the team around him.

He specifically said that Dak's accuracy improved each season at State, and that is also what my eyes told me.

You are so wrong in so many ways. Dak accuracy regressed from his freshman to sophomore year but increase noticeably every year from that point on up to finishing in his senior year at 66.1%. And as stated before that was with his supporting cast increasingly getting worse each year. That is nothing to sneeze it.

We shall see how it turns out but I think he may have hit a gusher.

I think the term you're looking for is "*********", if I remember correctly.

Stupid filters! The term I was trying to convey rhymes with "story bowl".

I don't know what is real and what is smokescreen.

I remember hearing early on that Prescott was being heavily vetted.

I think he was their top pick right from the getgo..

even over Paxton Lynch..whom they supposedly got out-maneuvered for with Denver.

The guy has gotten progressively better, even with a worse online at MSU.

2013: 156 of 267, 1940 yards, 58% comp %, 10 TDs, 7 ints
2014: 244 for 396, 3449 yards, 61.6% comp %, 27 TDs, 11 ints.
2015: 316 for 477, 3793 yards, 66.2 % comp%, 29 TDs, 5 ints.

A very, very clear progression.

Although that is true, the point is Dak turned out to be Jones' 5th option. He most certainly would have chosen Goff or Wentz with the 4th pick if available. Then he tried to move back into the first round to get Lynch. Even had his sights on Cook in later rounds only to be taken as well. Heck who knows if Hackenberg was also on the radar but was taken in the 2nd round by the idiot Jets. But settled on Dak in the 4th round and history was made.

So yeah give Jones & co some credit for selecting Dak, but luck on your side for not being able to pick the others. We shall see how it turns out but I think he may have hit a gusher.

Who's to say Cook or Lynch won't be good? They were in a bidding war for both guys so it's not like there was no interest.

We can sit here and devalue the selection of Dak Witt assumptions because we really don't know the story. But one thing I will say is team for months were attached to Dak. Months. He got the DUI and then brought him right back in for a interview. Cowboys were the only ones that even wanted to even pick him as late as they did.

Do you understand how idiotic this comment is?

Give the same man who craved Quincy Carter and Johnny Manziel, yet we should "give him credit" for missing on a trade for Lynch and succeeding in securing Dak Prescott's rights?

Joe Fan off the street could have identified Lynch as a good prospect. He felt so strongly with his expert eye about him that he got cold feet and did not sweeten the trade to Seattle to get him.

And if you think stumbling upon Prescott when the strategy has long gone out of the draft process, I don't know what to tell you.

If Prescott is the next big thing, it was not skill, namely Jones having an "eye". It was like it was with Romo, a case of being extremely fortunate because someone else did the homework.

I'd still have to give him a little credit though.

While dry heaving.

I'm as stoked as everyone. I said right after the draft that Prescott just seems different to me. But no matter what Dak does, I can't help but remember how preseason last year had Sam Bradford as league MVP, Chip Kelly a top-5 coaching genius and Philly in the Super Bowl. Just sayin'.
True but that was just one game. If he does this three games in a row vs. # 1 defenses the Internet will break.
