Schefter expecting Romo release, not trade

http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap30...ny-romo-be-involved-in-potential-cousins-deal

"The three organizations could soon discuss a trade that would send Kirk Cousins to San Francisco, Tony Romo to Washington and draft-pick compensation (including the No. 2 overall pick in April's draft) to Dallas, NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported Friday, via sources informed of the potential talks."

Quit linking to this totally debunked post from a worthless website looking for clicks. Jerry shot this down totally in his bus video.
Not ever going to happen. Tony is not going to Washington, not even for all the gold in Fort Knox.

Smokescreen.
Nothing is to be believed right now.
Ah yes.

The infamous "smokescreen" comments are coming.

You know that smoke that tricky Jerry Jones uses to throw everybody off and then he pulls off an amazing trade or acquisition that nobody ever saw coming.

I can't wait for that to happen again.

Wait, it never has.

On sports center just now. Not surprising, but sooooooo disappointing that we cannot get something, anything, for Romo. SMH

I don't believe Schefter knows jack about what's going to happen. Jerry is saying they may hold on to Romo. Denver is saying they will pursue only if released. All games at this point and Schefter is just guessing.

All assumptions on what we can get for Romo are just that, assumptions.

The trade up scenario in the first round might work except that Denver (Elway) are pretty established hard-liners. If Elway says he won't use picks, there's a real chance he means it. The trade up with Houston would only be a few slots (28 to 25). Worth a late 4th rounder..

Schefter is really plugged into Denver. He was their beat reporter before coming to BSPN.

Looking forward to this being over with very soon. In time for the team to grab new prospects and continue the growth that began in 2014 with solid picks. The team has a number of holes that need to be filled and needs to focus on players that will be there in 2017. My QB was not part of the plan so it's time to move on.

Here's to hoping Dak continues to develop and can improve on his outstanding 2016 performance.

The part that frustrates me the most is that Bellicheat would NEVER just release a guy with Romo's value. He's not in the "do right" by the player business.

We can?

Says who?

It is not like Romo has a price tag on him.
If teams are smart, they will wait it out. Jones will eventually just blink and then it is over.

Well, not really. Then we get weeks and weeks of whining that we let a player with value go for nothing. Won't be the first time that happened, except this time this was a beloved player.
This. A player's trade value is only worth what someone is willing to pay. In this case, that may be nothing, or it could be something.

I am pretty sure I will break something if after releasing Romo, Jerry talks about how it was the fair thing to do for Romo and waxes on about how Romo deserved the right to seek his next team.

If Jerry thinks Romo has the right to seek his new team, he should give him and his agent permission to seek a trade but tell him if he can't find a team willing to give fair market value, then he needs to report to all off season activities as if he will be a Cowboy. The team will keep the lines of communication open to all other teams on a possible trade but Romo needs to do his part and not be a distraction. If this is unacceptable, then he can exercise his only real leverage and retire.

Someone floated the possible of a swap of firsts with Denver for Romo. In my mind, that was the best scenario possible. Moving up 8 spots would be great for us...terrific. Romo getting to a team that he could really help would be great for them. The cost of dropping down for Denver, while not cheap, was doable and they'd still have a great QB if he stays upright.

All that said, I just don't think there's enough of a market for an old and oft-injured QB. However talented he might be, there's just not enough interest to generate the urgency necessary to gets a ton of draft picks.

fwiw, Every other team message board I've read has the vast majority of fans assuming he won't make through half a season or less. They, on average, will be pretty furious if they acquire Tony. Anyone interested, just go out there and see what's being said on Broncos or Texans (or even far-fetched Washington) message boards.
That's strange, I have found just the opposite. Most Texans and Broncos forums I have visited have fans who would love to have Romo. Sure, there are a couple of their fans who don't feel that way, but most fans I have seen posting say they want him as long as they don't give away high draft picks for him. Even before posting this I went and checked multiple Texans and Broncos forums for threads posted in the last couple of weeks and most of the posts support bringing in Romo.

That is not very Romo-friendly.

We must be seeing different groups of fans.
That's good if you've seen that. I sure haven't.
Maybe some of mine are coming from postings on national news as well.

I cant understand why we would want to just give him away.
what has he done for us- 1 playoff win? We given him 100 million and got nothing in return.
his only comment so far has been that he wants to go to a team that plays us. He could care less about us. Why would we want to accommodate him with a release.
I'm with Parcell's on this. He has a value- probable a conditional 3rd to 2nd round pick and there will be a market for him
Giving him away would be a monumental mistake. Jerry's a businessman. I just cant see him just doing a release.
