Schoonmaker out of OTAs with hamstring injury

Mazi has mental issues, Schoon keeps getting hurt. That draft gets better and better.

Good thing Michael Irvin was drafted in the 80’s eh!
Could you imagine the bed wetting post inundating the board here if his first 3 seasons production happened today!
GREAT point.

The instant gratification society we live in now!

We really don’t know if Luepke can run the ball or catch McMike had plenty of opportunities to see what he could do when games were wrapped up.
We've seen him do some of both. It's the blocking that's the primary concern IMO. He was more of a big running back in college than a blocking fullback. If he can develop his lead blocking skills, he has shown that he can be handed the ball on fullback dives and can catch the ball out of the backfield.

He's a spare...wouldn't surprise me to see him be a surprise cut for the final roster. Harbaugh will probably pick him up

He isn’t awful. He was just overdrafted because they panicked.

What’s most alarming is his injury history. Guys like him never stop getting hurt. Some athletes are just like that and he is one of them for sure.

He didn’t draft himself in the second round. Take it up with the team that “drafts well.”

Not a good look for Schoon… dude needs a solid offseason and needs to be in the middle of the competition at TE, not watching it from the trainer’s table.

He came to the NFL with the foot issue, then it was the shoulder, now the hammy. Worst possible start to his career.
Can't make the club from the tub. But he was drafted so probably will still make it.

You're right Dutton, they haven't given Luepke an opportunity to show what he can do. Personally I do believe Luepke has the goods if they'll give him the chance to prove it. With their shortage of RB talent this year maybe they'll give him more opportunities with the starters to see what he can do with it.

They may just IR him if this injury lingers and he doesn’t turn the corner in terms of availability. Give his job to another TE this year, let him get in shape and get healthy and give him a final shot in year 3.

Is he definitely a bust? No.

Is he flashing a whole bunch of red lights about him being a disappointment? Yes. Injuries sometimes are random and other times its a pattern with a player. Beyond that, he really didn't look good when he actually played last year. Not a fluid route runner. Kind of stone hands. Acknowledging this doesn't make one a bad fan.

It’s a wasted pick, but not his fault Dallas thought they needed a TE. He’ll be out this year too rehabbing the shoulder at the minimum. Maybe he pulls it together for camp, but the best you can hope for is he shows up next year in a contract year. That doesn’t help anything.
This is only his 2nd year. They have his rights for two more after this one.

Sitting out OTAs is precautionary. He's expected to be ready for training camp.

My first reaction is, it is early and they will keep guys out for hangnails at this point in the season. But, Schoonmaker is one of those guys that needs to improve over last season and getting practice reps is an important step in that process.
