Schottenheimer fired in SD

I think Wade would be the Chargers HC if they had fired Marty before now, and our defense wouldn't be this excited for a change.

My bet will be Ron Rivera.

I'm going to say it will be an offensive coach and they bring in -- damn what is his name -- the old d-coord who Wade had been reported to be talking to - to run the D.

Yeah, I thought of that too. I won't say you are wrong. That could happen.

Imagine Super Bowl XLII...Cowboys vs. Chargers. Norv vs. Wade.

This place would explode.

it would if they (SD) won

I think it might be Norv because Cameron's offensive systems is similar (Norv's had Cameron as QB coach in Washington) but the Pete Carroll thing makes sense if the Spanos' fire AJ Smith too...Carroll would get to stay in Souther Cal and have total control of the ship...and with things possibly turning ugly at USC, Carroll might want to bolt

David

Pete Carroll makes sense too. Rivera does not sound like a good fit. He will change that D to 4-3 and that defense is way too good right now to make that great of a change. Norv would help their offense, but if they fire AJ Smith, then Pete Carroll could come in with full control.

I wonder if Jerry knew something was going down? We hired Wade in a nick of time . . .

I would like to know the answer to that too.

Very likely. The new coach will want to come in and pick his own assistants.

;)

They'd have to be real desperate to go after Norv. I dont' see SD going after a Raiders reject.

you mean like when the Broncos went after some Raiders reject a few yrs back?

I know the mangement did not like Shotty, but to fire him after a 14-2 season? Amazing!

Who ever gets this team is getting a solid team though. I bet they go with a coach who focuses on offense . . . either Norv or Caldwell.
Rivera will want to change the D to 4-3 and that defense is too stout right now to make windfall changes.

Going w/an O minded coach is probably what they will do.

They may make a run at Pete Carroll but I don't think they could pry him away from USC w/a crowbar. Not many on the market.....Turner or Caldwell will probably be getting a call.

Thats what I was wondering

Two of the most successful Head Coaches in the 2006 NFL dominated the news today.

Reid in Philly and now this.

Wow. Just wow. That's all I can say. I was going to bed. now I may not sleep.

All I can say is, fire Wade at put Shott at the helm. 10 times better in my opinion.

Reid's situation was understandable though. He had to take care of family, and he did the best and right thing.

This firing makes no sense. I know that Patriot game was not best football that the Charger's played but it seems like this team is too close to make this kind of change . . .

couple of other things are obvious too:

1) AJ Smith and Schottenheimer hate each other

and

2) Chargers officials think the assistant coaches had alot more to do with the teams success than the HC...and they are probably right

Both very good points.

It's rough to be a San Diego fan.

The team had all the talent in the world to win it all. The best player in football (LT). The trendy badass from last season (Gates). A phenomenal defense. They go into the season and find out their young stud has been juicing. They have some injuries. But they still go 14-2. Then they have the heartbreaking loss in the playoffs.

What follows next must be surreal. Their offensive co leaves. Then their defenses co leaves. Then their head coach gets fired.

At the beginning of the season they had everything going for them.

Where are they now?

i love your little quote in the sig

It was a crappy thing for SD to do..
Fire him after all the coaching jobs were already taken.
Even if you dont like an employee you still treat them professionally in their departure ..
Bad move by SD and it will also serve as a red flag for other prospective coaches and down through the players..

Thats the way to show em how you do buisness...

I would love to have Marty as DC and unless he sits out this year or retires it may be the best offer he receives sense there are no HC jobs left...

And we give Jerry Jones crap for meddling with the team . . . I wonder what the spin on this will be coming out of San Diego . . .
