Scouting Notebook: Matt Miller's Final Team-by-Team Reports

Maybe if we went 4-12 because we realized the running game wasn't good enough without an elite TB.

But that's not what happened did it? They went 4-12 because they had their starting QB go down for most of the season and their starting WR basically be ineffective all year with a bum foot.

If anything, what last year should have told them is that they have to place a much higher value on QB. Which, laughingly, they did nothing in the offseason to address. Apparently Kellen Moore is the guy.

Yeah because Andrew Luck was already under contract. Which franchise QB would you have signed?

The point being that at least up until this draft, the Cowboys said AND acted very much like a franchise that simply would not put any money into the TB position. And even if you believe Elliott is much better than Miller (which isn't an outrageous claim) you'd be paying him nearly double what Miller got. Elliott is not twice the player Miller, or many TBs are, unless you think Elliott is somehow going to run for 2,500 yards this season.

Taking Elliott would be a very clear deviation from the "plan".

Well I believe Elliott is twice the player Miller is. But thats not the point of picking of this bone.
I think we can all look for faults in an organization and find them even if they dont exist.
By the way the draft isn't until Thursday and your calling them out for an action that hasn't been
acted upon.It really is the silly season.

It's Ramsey. Why? Because it's the absolute worst case scenario and I have faith in Jerry Jones.

The celebration around here will turn to confusion then a pitchfork party. He won't matter. He'll just be a guy. We wiped our rear end with the 4th overall pick.

As an aside ( shout out to @mschmidt64 ), the Cowboys players have access to the draft board? If this is true that is comically bad.

Eagles get Wentz. A historic prospect who will change the league as we know it and forced Peyton Manning to retire in fear.

Cowboys get Ramsey. A sorta cornerback who can't make plays but might be a safety but you won't play him there.

I can't wait for the season to start. This just feels different.

Perhaps that plan only refers to rbs with several years of professional wear and tear on their tires

I took the Newman. Now I'll take the Ramsey. You tell young Jalen I'm going to paint Valley Ranch with his blood. Two coats. I'll festoon my parents' basement with his guts.

Well the TB (along with the Oline) got us closer to the SB then anything they have tried in the past 20 years. And yet they screwed that one up last year thinking anybody could run behind this Oline, and doing the stupid RBBC crap.

A TB that was taken in the third round don't forget.

And guess what? They kind of proved anyone could run behind this OL. You guys seem to think McFadden is junk and yet he ran for 1000 yards in 12 games started with absolutely no passing threat whatsoever.

A healthy Romo and starting 16 games, he probably runs for 1500 yards or more.

Except Jones was pretty clear it was the position, not just guys with wear and tear. He was clear about the "position" not certain guys who play the position.

Who said anything about signing a franchise QB in free agency?

Well that's all I can assume we haven't addressed because signing some scrub off the scrap heap doesn't do a whole lot now does it? What back up did you want? Furthermore the draft hasn't come yet.

If the draft passes and we don't have a qb that we can at least get excited about than I will be right there with yall cussing the organization for doing nothing about the QB position this off season.

Oh please, we know you don't like rb's that's clear. Dmac didn't scare anybody, and when did you watch a game and go wow that guy is good? He did a fine job, but we're not going anywhere with him. 3 TD'S and Randle had 4 in limited games is all you need to know.

There are a lot of things McFadden doesn't do well in this scheme. He's more of a liability than you realize. I don't see him fending off Morris on the depth chart. If they draft a guy like Dixon, he'd also probably creep ahead of McFadden by the middle of the season.

just think what a real running threat would bring

I hate that type of comedic relief......

Jones was clear after the season that they needed to upgrade the backup QB spot. They've done nothing to address it.

Pass rush and backup QB were their two big, self professed problems that needed addressing.

They've touched neither thus far.

Of course that's wrong. I've said I would like to have Elliott on this team. I just don't believe it's wise to use the 4th pick on him.

If they could trade the pick, pick up a 2nd and 3rd rounder and still take Elliott, that would be ideal.

Yes that's absolutely 100 percent fact. But the offseason isn't over. We can gather our pitch forks and what not but I'm going to hold off on marching down to Valley Ranch until the offseason is over. I'm terrible and predicting the future.

Also Thorton is supposed to help collapse the pocket and thereby help us get more pressure.

Thornton isn't really known as a pocket collapser though is he? But that was a good signing nonetheless. Big upgrade over Hayden.

How is Philly getting Wentz and Dixon? They have no 2nd or 3rd round pick and Dixon is gone in the 2nd possibly 3rd round. They going to trade the remaining draft and next year's to get Dixon. .....haha ya right

I think if the Chargers do not take Jalen Ramsey...he will be the player Dallas takes.
If The Chargers do take Jalen Ramsey...I think we take Zeke

Bingo. I like Ramsey...a lot. Probably like him more than Zeke truthfully. But god help me I want to see that horse saddle up behind our Oline. I'd be content with either pick. NO Bosa....and I"m content.
