And target whom? Most teams are avoiding high priced vets as they don't generally work out.

If you want to rehash it and be resentful then Gregory is a fair target. Many here thought we should go after a DL instead of a RB.

Denver does not avoid high priced FA's at all, especially on D. And not advocating trying to be like most teams, only the championship caliber ones.

By the by, not resentful at all, simply frustrated with a team I am extremely passionate about. Being critical does not necessarily equal being resentful.

"All of sudden?"

12 million to Hardy ring a bell? Carr? McClain?

Yeah I mean goodness. You don't have enough resources to fix every hold. I'm hoping we are at the point where we can invest all on defense at this point. But you can't say oh your offensive line is bad and then you want to use your 1st rounders on defensive linemen.

They invested 2nd round picks in Lawrence and Gregory. Spent 12 million on Hardy. Spent a 1st rounder on Mo and 50 million on Carr. Gave Scandrick and Lee extensions. Invested a low risk deal in McClain. Invested a 1st rounder in Byron Jones. You don't have to like the moves but one thing is you can't say these last few years they haven't invested on defense. It just hasn't been enough.

Denver is in a small minority of free agent moves working out. Its far too early on the Deadskins but they spent money on defense specifically in Josh Norman just to watch them give up 38 points. Giants did the same.....I guess it depends on how you feel about that because the homer in me says we had a chance to put 30 up on them on Sunday......solid against our run but even with the Giants I didn't see the 200 million investment.

Denver couldnt' do what it did without finding Von Miller. Von Miller was the real missing piece not Talib or Ware or Ward.

  • Yup. Car was like 2012,
  • Hardy was a cheap 1 year signing for 11 million, and my man Romac was getting pennies 1 year 4 million.
  • Research what top tier DEs and LBs are getting paid AND the guaranteed monies they are getting and then comeback
  • What did the do when we needed to bolster our defense this off season?

Cheeeeeeeeap.

Cheeeeeeeeap.

So, your argument isn't really being cheap, but not signing top tier DEs and LBs . . .

And Hardy wasn't cheap. If not for the suspension, he makes 16 million for the year. One of the higher paid DE's for 2015.

Your dancing all around your point, which was, quote "why are we so cheap on defense". Now you're arguing "why aren't we spending the most".

Nope...my argument is that we are cheeeeeeap on defense. We have the fourth cheapest D line in the NFL.
Harry's total contract was 13 million and if you haven't paid attention, that was last year. His contract wasn't extended, he's no longer on the team.

So again, why are we being so Cheap all of the sudden - meaning THIS year, not last year, not 4 years ago.

" why are we being so cheap". Being is present tense meaning presently or this moment.:hammer:

The Giants spent 150 million in defense this year and they beat a 170 million dollar O line.
Tyron has like a 97 million dollar contract, Frederick is at 56 million, free 15 million, didn't throw in Martin and Collins cause they are on rookie contracts but when they get extended dangggggggg this will be a $200-250 million dollar line.

That's they key that everyone is forgetting. Our o line is paid to destroy people's D line, when it doesn't then there are concerns.

Going out on a limb here but I already expect excuses next off season

Cowboys Front Office: we had some young guys injured last year in training camp. Those reps in training camp and preseason are important especially for rookies like tapper, Collins, Jaylon, and to a certain extent Randal Gregory. We like what we have in the young guys and believe with a full off season under their belt they can really contribute and do things the right way.

Me: :banghead:

One player does not make a team, or even a dominant unit. Von Miller, like JJ Watt, can't do it by himself as Uber talented as he is.

Von Miller did not win any championships at school or pro level until surrounded and complemented by very good to great players. Every player on that 2015 Denver D contributed to the dominance of that championship defense, including their defensive coach. Miller may be the most talented of them all but it took all of them to deliver the Lombardi.

It is abject silliness or just ignorance to imply that this was simply ONE player's victory. One player and a bunch of jags does not make a defense dominant. This is not basketball.

The Giants spent $150M on defense this offseason and just beat a rookie QB and idiot WR by one point.

Wins in this league do not come easy, or cheaply. 1 point or 100 points, only the W counts. How many close games did Cowboys have last season? The bottom line was 4-12.

If Cowboys had acquired Damon Harrison, Janoris Jenkins and Olivier Vernon in offseason you'd be the in front of the line singing the platitudes of the FO and crying hysterically about not one, not two, not three ...

I got to say. Our defense would be tremendously better with those guys.
People got so hung up on what the Giants spent in the off season for those defensive guys.

Let's look at Damon Harrison vs Tyron Crawford
Harrison : 5 years 46 million w 24 guaranteed
T Crawford : 5 years 45 million w 24.6 guaranteed

I wasn't implying one player was why they won the Super Bowl. I'm saying he's the most important piece to that team and if you don't believe that you're fooling yourself. Mind you, they spent that money TWO YEARS ago in free agency. It wasn't last season. So why didn't they win that ring that year even with Peyton playing superior than he did last year? He was coming off the ACL injury in 2014....fully healthy in 2015..........championship.

Harrison wasn't all they signed. I have no problem with Harrison's contract. Decent value. It was the Janoris Jenkins and Vernon contracts....they paid Vernon like the best defensive player in the league.

You are not making sense. Even the most important piece needed all those talented FA's around him to win a ring, that includes Ware, Ward, Talib and Peyton. Again, surround your most important piece with jags and Miller wins JACK.

Jenkins contract is very similar to Carrs contract. They both got about the same money guaranteed 28.8 million.

What you have an issue with is Oliver Vernons 45 million guaranteed which seems a bit much. I have to agree there. His 40 million guarantee and avg/yr is 17 million bout the same as fletcher cox who just got extended. Just wait and see what Lawrence will want.
