Let's say Lee is pretty much done with his career. I'm not saying he is or probably is, just for this hypothetical let's assume the head issue is something he can't play with anymore.

If that's the case, how do you view the use of that 2010 55th overall selection? Was it a good decision? Bad? Would you do it again knowing what you know now?

I will hold off on my own thoughts on this as I know how respected and influential I am around here and I want your honest take on it before I correct it.

I would not do it again knowing what I know now.

That's the beauty of hindsight....i'd have traded down and out of the 2nd round and would have taken NaVorro Bowman and Geno Atkins with my two 3rds obviously.

This GM thing is easy.

Can't blame Dallas for taking a shot on him. But it has to be viewed as a failure. Not on the field enough.

Those are my thoughts as well. Dallas took a gamble on him, and it hasn't worked out. I don't fault them for rolling the dice, but Lee has proven that he's a player you can't count on. It's a shame too, because as far as talent goes, Lee is terrific. It doesn't matter though, if he can't stay on the field. As for the other guys drafted around him, I don't really think about that, since time machines don't exist.

Knowing what we know now it's obviously a bad pick. I want Moss instead of Ellis too.

Ben Tate, Brandon Spikes, Jon Asamoah, Emmanuel Sanders, Eric Decker, Navorro Bowman, Jimmy Graham are some of the names that went within the next round.

Geez that's a little depressing lol oh well happenso every draft to every team...

You won't find too many teams that have had worse luck in the second round of the draft than the Cowboys.

If his career is done now, as you postulate in the hypothetical, then of course you would redo the 55th pick.

Knowing how his career has turned out I would not do it again.
That said I love the way he plays the game. Probably the highest football iq on a team in short supply of it.
The painful thing about the Lee pick is that I believe we were in position to take Luke keukely in the 2012 draft maybe avoiding the mo Claiborne reach.
Luke would look good w a star right about now

Lee falls somewhat into the definition of coach killer and it hasn't nothing to do with his talent, desire, and on-field production <when he is playing>.

There is nothing more frustrating to a coach than a player than cannot be depended on -- regardless of whether they are superstar on number 50 on the roster.

Unfortunately Lee is never been someone you can depend on being on the field.

If you're going to take a chance, you might as well do it on a great player. It just didn't work out. Resigning him was the bigger mistake.

Its also they only way individuals and organizations can self-evaluate.

Yes but if you're using that barometer of "we could have taken so and so instead of him" when nobody was upset with the pick at the time, then you're just playing the hindsight game. Its not like Lee was a colossal reach or a choice of an inept FO.

You can't predict a player being snake bitten. He had been knocked out of the 1st for the injury problem already. His talent was a hit in the draft and thats what your aim is in drafting. Find talent. The evaluation needs to take place on the contract extension, not the pick because its obvious from a talent perspective the pick was fine. Since you have the ability to look back in hindsight now, of course you can pick another talented player who hasn't been injured. Since we're doing this hinds thing, can we trade out Escobar for Bell, Claiborne for Keuchly and Lawrence for Carr?

I'm fine with the pick. Good teams can and do absorb some injuries so I don't mind a team taking a chance on a guy who slips due to being "injury prone" every once in a while, but it's not something you'd want to do habitually. Of course, I wouldn't pick him again today knowing how it turns out and knowing how the other players performed.
