This is just the type of dumb move Jerry will make.

Please compare the Payton record with McCarthy. Hint: no difference.

He wants roster control, and there's no way anyone can convince me the saints have drafted better than the Cowboys. I'd rather keep McClay and McCarthy than SP.

First off the guy we have gave up his play calling duties just to satisfy Jerry. So right there he folded. He’s another puppet who didn’t have this team prepared for a playoff game last year.

Secondly Peyton was one of the worst calls ever from going to a second Super Bowl. He also got eliminated on a miracle plays against the Vikings.

I’d give up a first in a heartbeat. To those that underestimate coaching just look at dabol in NY. JJ would actually listen to Sean peyton

The only way it's worth it to get Payton is if for some reason it would make Jerry back off from his usual way of doing business. But why would it? Payton doesn't have a single extra skin on the wall than Mike McCarthy has. This would be a mere cosmetic change that would cost us a 1st round pick.

Not just no. Hell no.

That’s the word.
If that's the word then I would be down to give them a mid-to-late first round pick. Payton and Fangio, plus saving money on a first round pick to sign a few important FAs, sign me up. Fangio is a better DC than Quinn. IMO.

My dream is Rex Ryan as DC, Josh McDaniels as OC and someone as the HC who can keep all those egos in check and still run a team. It won't happen because Rex is not the high fired person that he once was (Like Parcells when he came here) and he also has a cake job. And Josh will probably get the HC position in Vegas.

And I don't think Fangio won't come here. He's a brash guy and who's consulting Philthy right now. Plus he's the one who puffed out his chest saying he's the one who drew up the defense to stop Dak. I don't think Jerry would hire him. I hope I'm wrong though.

You don't get how contracts work? Any player could just up and retire and go sign elsewhere if that were the case
I do get how contracts work….goods and or services in return for compensation.

They aren’t paying him and he isn’t providing those services. They retain his rights within a certain framework (the NFL).

This prevents Payton from coaching elsewhere without NOs blessing, but they cannot take an unreasonable stance like….’we want ten first round picks, etc,” effectively preventing Payton from earning a living in the league again.

Now, the team could offer him his job back and Payton would have no choice but to take it….other than stay out of the league….but would a team really do that? At that point he already decided to move on and go elsewhere. That’s who you want running the organization? So the team has moved on also.

That’s one of the main differences between one single player and this case. Add in that players have a finite time frame to earn, coaches can go much longer….and lastly, the rules dictate that a player must have a certain amount of service time that they don’t accumulate in retirement before they have any leverage at all really

Comparing this to a particular player is apples and oranges.

Wishful thinking on your part I think Stash lol. I would love for Moore to be gone but I just dont see Jerry doing it.

Now. Jerry and Payton are very close so there is that as well. However I think this hire would be Stephens to make.
We’ll see.

I’ve been wrong once or twice before.

But I’m seeing a house of cards collapsing here. And Quinn is looking for the exit and his own career advancement, which makes McCarthy much less appealing win or lose.

I predict a loss which I think seals his fate. And Payton just publicly announced the asking price to get him (and Fangio as defensive coordinator).

I think even Jerry can see Payton/Fangio is far better than McCarthy/?

Sign me up! Take my pick!

Sean Payton says that if he takes a head-coaching job, the team that hires him will have to give the Saints a mid-to-late first-round draft pick.

Payton told Colin Cowherd he and Saints General Manager Mickey Loomis have come to an understanding that that’s what his new team will give the Saints, if Payton takes a head-coaching job.

Only if they take Jerry also.

Why would they pay him? He chose to walk away from his contract. They can't force him to work but they don't owe him anything, either.
Right but they can’t not pay him, and not offer to bring him back, and prevent him from earning a living elsewhere by demanding compensation above and beyond what anyone is willing to pay.

Maybe someone IS willing to part with a first for him and this all moot, but if the best offer is something like a third that could be a second, the Saints can’t say “sorry, not good enough,” and also not pay him, and also not offer to bring him back.

Any type of legal hearing isn’t going to deny him the right to earn a living is the point.

Maybe Quinn knows something? Maybe he sees the writing on the wall and knows Denver is his best shot to get out of here and get another head coaching gig before this staff ultimately gets fired anyway?
Lol! Or maybe Quinn is doing what he was always doing from the beginning. Using this position as a stepping stone to another head coaching position!

Maybe. But he didn’t do it last year when opportunities were there as well.

Why doesnt he tell the saints hes coming out of retirement and ready to coach the Saints? cmon, you dont have to think very hard to figure it out.

By the way, what would happen if he did do that? Wouldnt they have to take him back or let him walk for no compensation?

Precedent was established when TB agreed to give OAK 2 1sts for Gruden. Any team with a HC, retired or not, under contract will be compensated with draft picks unless the holding team waives that.

I’ve wondered about that myself, but don’t know the answer for certain.

That's why I asked cause DQ is interviewing for jobs this week, so screw it get Fangio.
Fangio runs a 34, at worst Jerry thinks and is probably correct that this team is a player or 2 from being able to seriously compete. Not an especially good time to do silly things like completely change the defense. It’s almost certain he’ll hire from within… either Whitt or Frazier. If he does get a wild hair and go outside, then the only person I’d realistically think he might look at would be Gus Bradley!
