IMO, the lack of consistent pressure was the root of the problems on defense. That being said, I would like to see Brent, Hayden, Selvie, Okoye, gone. Bring in some proven FA rushers, whether it be Suh and Hardy or some other proven ones. With consistent pressure, we can roll with the CBs we now have. I also think that the safety position needs to finally be addressed.

People thought the corner market was going to keep rising, but the Cowboys misevaluated the amount it would increase, and I think they paid for a corner who fell out of the system we had going here.

They also mis-evaluated the impact of the position.

This is starting to sound like the whole "our OL is good enough" crap we put up with for years. When the team finally committed enough resources to the OL the entire offense came alive. Lesson learned? I hope so,,, I like Mincey as a player but this DL needs more than that, they need a real deal, gotta account for, pass rushing DE/DT. Drafting one would be nice, but there's a "miss" factor that must be considered and if the player becomes a stud you've gotta pay him eventually. There's only a few positions on the field where a big fat FA contract is tolerable and supreme pass-rushing DE is one of them. Charles Haley anyone?

Great post. Yet there are some who still haven't learned that lesson. They are simply the whatever the Cowboys do I support crowd.

Kindly smack yourself if you thought we could just get by along the OL. What a terrible philosophy for building a football team. You would almost need, like, fake personnel guys running your team. Not football guys, something like, I don't know, maybe an oil man and his silver spooned son.

I think good defenses have to be designed differently because of the changes in the passing offenses. The DE's are more like extra LB's who have to chase down quick screen passes and rush the passer. In the 4-3, it's almost more like a 2-5-4 scheme. Everybody is into the quick passes, getting the ball into WR's hands in space and keeping the QB protected. You can get sacks, but it's more likely going to come from a variety of defensive players. The Patriots recorded 40 sacks on the season in the same fashion....Rob Ninkovich led the team with 8 sacks, followed by Chandler Jones at 6 sacks and Hightower at 6 sacks.

The Lions had the 3rd best defense according to FO.com and had 42 team sacks. But their highest total came from Suh at 8.5.

I think that about 5 years ago I would have said that pass rushers are more critical than secondary in the NFL. But now I'm starting to believe that it is the other way around because you're going to need DB's that can tackle, cover and blitz.
