Yes, it can. Remember when everyone thought Louis Delmas was going to go in the mid to late 1st? Well he went the first pick in the 2nd round; it's possible for players to fall.

It's also possible for them to go much higher than anyone anticipated.

A first and a 2nd(pick for Sensy) can move up and grab him genius.

They also might really like Mike Hamlin at SS and think he can start.

Thomas is going in the top 15. A second plus a 27 does not get you into the top 15.

And watch the labeling.

Two safety's in the top 15 picks? I dunno.

I trust Jerry and co. in this manner but find it interesting to speculate. Let's forget that the trade value chart has no basis in reality; if it did, our 1st and newly acquired 2nd* would equal out to 12th pick in the draft. That should be high enough to get Earl Thomas, heck it's probably high enough to get Rolando McClain and gamble on a safety later in the draft.

From Rams*

I don't see ET going in the top 15.

AKA our safeties are mediocre and we need a ballhawk at the safety position. Hamlin, Sensabaugh nor Ball give us that. OJ and Earl!

We have no chance at Thomas first of all. Second you are going to take a safety we don't know much of and expect him to perform in a new scheme as well as the ones already doing it.

I'd suggest you keep at least one of the starters if you're going to put someone else back there. Chemistry for safeties is a must and doesn't come overnite esp for an untested rookie playing with a safety new to the scheme. That's a step backwards.

I'm all for drafting a safety likely to be Allen if there is one drafted by us. But I don't expect him to start the first year. We'll still carry five safeties even if we draft one.

Dallas needs to let him sign with someone else... They should go after Atowge or Bathea.

& let Mike Hamlin, who is basically still a rookie in my eyes since he was out most of the year, prolly still not caught up with the speed of the NFL game and needs to experience a bit more before just throwing him out there. Do you fans really want to take 2 steps back when this team is verging on winning a Super Bowl??? It is a must to keep all parts in place except for Mr. Ken Hamlin

I was thinking the same thing!!!!!

Sign OJ Atogwe. Bye Hamlin.

Collect that 2nd rounder and use it to trade up for Earl Thomas.

Atogwe+Earl Thomas=Best defense ever assembled.

If that happens

You're going to make a lot of tackles and snag a few INTs when teams are going bananas on your putrid defense.

You're supposed to snag a lot of INTs when your pass-rush is as good as ours is too.

Where is all of this no shot at ET coming from? Care to explain why you think he is going in the top 15? I just don't see two safeties being selected in the top 15 at all.

That's the rumor. But he's not falling near 27. It's not a zero chance just minimal. If eight OTs go in the first SOMEONE will likely fall to us.

1st and Sensys 2nd round pick to move up at 16 and grab Earl Thomas

You've continually dogged him, wanting him to take "paycuts" or be benched, claiming that he "doesn't learn the CB position."

But now he's one of the reasons for our defensive success due to his "Pro Bowl" level play?

Oh, and...http://cowboyszone.com/forums/showthread.php?p=3140375&highlight=Newman#post3140375

Yeah, checkmate.

Wow, I definitely don't remember saying that. Not sure why Bradie James is on that list either. Either I was drunk (which is very possible), or I was having a bad day. It's hard to find good corners in this league, and I have dogged Newman because he seems to give up the biggest plays at the worst, possible times. I guess we're even then because you totally avoided my response on Hamlin, huh? Your response: we don't know anything about football or playing in the defensive backfield. Don't be going all Skip Bayless on us! :D

Sometimes I really just don't understand football fans. We had the #2 ranked Defense in terms of scoring. We had to have been doing something right. That includes our Safeties and one of them played much of the year with a cast on one hand.

Yet people honestly want to change both of them in one off season?

I would really like to see one instance of this happening for any team that someone can show me and it propelled them to greatness. Is it too much to ask for even one example?

More likely you are going to find that it has led to disaster for that team. Why? Because there is no chemistry.

I would like to add more INTs too. Only an idiot wouldn't. But that isn't going to happen if we play 2010 with 2 new people back there and one of them is a rookie. No way, no shape, no how. That is ridiculous.

I get frustration. But does being frustrated mean you have to lose all common sense?

Oh and by the way, do you see the date of that post where I said Newman should be released? It happened to be on December 13th, 2009. Do you know what game occured on that day? The SAN DIEGO game where Newman gave up that huge 3rd down play to Jackson which lead to the game-winning touchdown for San Diego. So I'm 110% positive that post came out of frustration because we were on a two-game losing streak when almost EVERYONE thought the season was over. Nice find, but you have to consider the circumstances also. :p:
