And this is why people think lots of Cowboys fans are frauds. You don’t quit a team because they aren’t winning. Then again some of you only became a fan because they were winning so I guess that bandwagon goes both ways.
I think after a certain period of losing, it doesn't matter if you came on when they were winning back in 94 lol.

These pensies would've needed tampons dealing with the 1-15 season.
I was there for 1 and 15.
Felt better about the franchise then than I do now because, Jimmy Johnson had the vision and ability
as Head Football Man to turn the team around.
Can you imagine the gumption he must of had to trade their best player for that boatload of picks from the Vikes?

If you had that thought after that season I'm sorry but you're braver than me. Jimmy Johnson wasn't Jimmy then. He was a college coach who the nfl laughed at Jerry for hiring

I'm 34 so while I was technically alive during some of the glory years of the 90s I never really got to enjoy those years as I barely knew what was going on.

My first real experience of actually following the team were the 96 season with vivid memories of that playoff loss to Carolina. Things really didn't get better from there lol. 1997 happened and that offseason I was a true diehard for both the Cowboys and football in general. Was up early every Sunday morning to catch the earliest pregame show I could find, didnt miss a game (cowboys or not), and knew every player on the depth chart by heart. Mix that in with some iconic moments like the 99 opener and I was hooked for life.

At this point I've lived through the fall of the triplets....the Quincy Carter/Huchinson/Henson era after believing they were all destined to be hall of famers at one point...the constant 5-11 seasons of Dave Campo including getting upset by the expansion Texans....the washed up QB stints of Bledsoe & Testeverde....the ups and downs of Tony Romo, etc.

Sometimes i wonder why I'm still around, especially given that the Cowboys aren't my local team. I even wanted to flip teams years ago when they signed Greg Hardy, but still couldnt do it. I believe true fandom can't be changed and those who do swap teams, especially later in life will never find the same satisfaction when their team does make it to the top. Even though I grew up through years of disappointment I grew up idolizing this team and the players that took the field, not just the starts either. It was Dan Campbell rallying the team during an upset in a bad year. It was racking up the wins over Washington no matter how bad the Cowboys were. It was being excited for months after they drafted Julius Jones of all people just to see him take the field in a Cowboy uniform. It was being floored by the idea the Cowboys just landed a Joey Galloway or a La'roi Glover. No matter what I bought in year after year after year not just with excitement but the certainty that it was OUR year.

Anymore I still get just as excited...just for different reasons. I don't fall in love with players. I'm way more level headed watching each week. I find joy in the little things like being able to call out the coverages a defense is in, and playing along with the schematics. I enjoy going back and watching old games over the offseason. It's for different reasons in the past, but i'm still a die hard. I've lived through so much disappointment that I'm mostly numb to it.....but with that said being a front runner and moving to root for a team like KC at this point wouldnt be nearly as satisfying as it will be when the Cowboys get back to a title game, even if that is another decade away.

I'm old...I'm like Don Metedith was the QB old....you young fans will have to look him up...lol
I started following the Cowboys because when I was very young the first time I ever played football I played flag football for a neighborhood football team called the Plaza Cowboys....it just stuck from there.

I was 7 buddy and the Cowboys were always winning and looking good doing it. NE was a joke. I didnt even know what a front runner was at the time. Ive stayed true through all these pathetic years so dont be calling me a front runner.

I do regret it as this team run by Jerry has been largely a joke and will be until he is no longer running it.

You picked a team because they were winning, no other reason. No connection to the team or the city, that’s the definition of a front runner.
This is a hilariously stupid take

He just mentioned he became a fan as a kid and has remained a fan for 40+ years.

You're essentially calling a child's decision "front runner" behavior.

I'm a Dallas native, so there's that.

I can't stand Jerry Jones and unfortunately his persona permeates the organization. So in essence, the "Dallas Cowboys" don't really appeal to me much.

As a result, I just don't make as much time for them as I used to. If the Wife wants to go to a movie on Sunday afternoon, we go to the movies. I haven't bought merch since 2015ish. Haven't paid to go to a game since around that time either.

But I can't stop caring. I find myself latching on to the players on the field and the fans on this forum and in the area. It's a nice community.

If not for McClay's drafts, this team would be so bad that Jerry would be forced to change his ways.
Jerry has a knack for doing just enough to keep this team interesting, but is not willing to do what need to be done
for them to have a real chance at post season success namely hiring a real GM.
They had a real chance this year. They had 6 wins against playoff teams and won 13 games total.

Here is my old timer story.
Was a kid in 1975.
First Cowboy game I can remember was the Hail Mary playoff game with Roger.
I had so much respect for Roger both on and off the field that I was hooked for life.
I thought that you were older.

Why are you fans of the team when they have under performed so much in the past 28 years?

I have been a fan for 47 years and seen success and SB victories.
I have developed a loyalty to this team, and cant imagine following another team.
So, I will follow them no matter how poorly run they are.

But you young fans, what keeps you following this team ?

It is certainly not because of playoff success.

Does the circus and entertainment aspect of the team that Jerry has created draw you in ?

Just an older curious fan here.

Thanks, John
Perhaps it ties in with their feelings of impending doom from climate change……an apocalyptic death seem a natural segue from watching the Cowboys in the playoffs

I wouldnt say Im young by any stretch. I started liking the Cowboys in the 70s when I was a kid watching Staubach. I grew up in New England and the Patriots sucked back then.

I honestly wish I had never done it. Would have been better going through the Brady and Belli years. As it stands I have more respect for Brady than any player in any sport ever.

If I could take a pill or shot and magically no longer like the Cowboys I would do it instantly. Cant stand Jerry and the way the Cowboys run their teams. Its like a curse now.
We’ve disagreed on many things but your comments in here are spot on. I’m from DFW area …well got here at 1. My family came from Baltimore and were Colts fans. snd was born in 70. By mid 70s all kids I knew were Boys fans and I became a diehard. It was 20 years of SBs snd bliss except a few years. But heck the 1-15 team showed more heart than a lot of the teams with better records. You could see growth, My heartache has hit more the last 10-15 years since Jerry brought n Garrett and just acted like he didn’t care except getting a “product” out there and being right. I’d love to see a few years where they do it differently

I hope someday you younger fans will be rewarded for your perserverence.

Just an aside, but this forum has kept he much more engaged with the Cowboys than what I would be.
They comradery of you guys and gals is top notch.
It's nice to have a civil place to talk about the team.
