How can this be a serious question? Do you think fans just trade teams every few years? Do you think young fans only become fans of a team when they have won a title?

Seriously, to me this question is absolutely ridiculous. I have 4 daughters.... all are Cowboy fans. The 2 oldest went to a SB party prior to Dallas beating Buffalo. The 2 younger have never seen the team win a SB. So do you actually think kids that have Cowboys jerseys, have gone to training camp, have spoken to players, gotten autographs, traveled to Dallas routinely for the season opener are going to give all of that up to root for team xyz because Dallas doesnt win titles? Why do the browns have a singe fan?

Do you think the younger "Fans," of this team are just gonna jump on over and be a Bengals fan now?
If my post trouble you that much
Just put me on your ignore list.
You sound angry.
Still upset over the loss?
It was just a discussion starter.
I would not choose to follow a team that had such a poor post season track record and I was young and picking a team to follow

Why are you fans of the team when they have under performed so much in the past 28 years?

I have been a fan for 47 years and seen success and SB victories.
I have developed a loyalty to this team, and cant imagine following another team.
So, I will follow them no matter how poorly run they are.

But you young fans, what keeps you following this team ?

It is certainly not because of playoff success.

Does the circus and entertainment aspect of the team that Jerry has created draw you in ?

Just an older curious fan here.

Thanks, John

I don't know why they've underperformed in the way that they have. I think some of it is Jerry, and some of it is just bad luck. The circus isn't really what drew me in. For me, it was a circumstance of being in Houston between teams when I became old enough to understand the sport and had some draw to them. I think Emmitt is where I really took a liking to the franchise.

That said, I can't say I'd ever say another team would be a favourite. I have so much interest in the Cowboys still, and so much so that I happily have the star on my Fursuits (and have done it proud as you probably know lol)

Been a fan since early 70s been a great run would never switch . I do have other teams I like to watch but only the cowboys have my heart

I will say this my fandom got so much easier when I quit placing Super Bowl as the expectation and just enjoy the ride and each game

Does that mean I don’t care bout getting there no it doesn’t it’s just not a higher priority than just getting enjoyment

My highs last longer than the lows and neither sticks with me that long.

I was born in 1997 so I’ve only seen heart break. My dad is Cowboys fan so I grew up watching them and that’s basically how it happened. And now I’m a die hard. It’s painful but I wouldn’t want to cheer for any other team. Fandom is weird, you don’t really choose it it just kinda happens

I wouldnt say Im young by any stretch. I started liking the Cowboys in the 70s when I was a kid watching Staubach. I grew up in New England and the Patriots sucked back then.

I honestly wish I had never done it. Would have been better going through the Brady and Belli years. As it stands I have more respect for Brady than any player in any sport ever.

If I could take a pill or shot and magically no longer like the Cowboys I would do it instantly. Cant stand Jerry and the way the Cowboys run their teams. Its like a curse now.
The OPs question wasn't directed towards you old man, Im old as dirt as well but learn to take a back seat sometimes, you dont have to make a declaration of your state hood in every single thread.
Let the young Cowboys fans speak in this thread.

Born into it.

I was 6 when we won the last SB so don’t remember those years. Earliest memory is the divisional round loss to the Panthers in 98? I think it was Kerry Collins and Wesley Walls caught a couple TDs. Randy Moss thanksgiving game was burned into my memory. Then I remember when we traded for Joey Galloway, thought he was the missing piece for Troy. Was devastated when Aikman retired, was and is my favorite Cowboy ever.

Campo years were rough but Roy Williams made Sundays fun. Those defenses were the only respectable part of our team and it made me appreciate defensive football.

Parcells years felt like we were actually building towards being good again. Remember the signings like Jason Ferguson, Marco Rivera and Aaron Glenn and being excited. Kept me interested… Was pissed when we passed on Stephen Jackson though.

Everything from the Wade years to now just seem like a blur, it’s like ground hogs day. Dez Bryant gave me some hope we would actually break through, but after a while I stopped having high expectations. Every once in a while we’ll have a solid year but I just don’t have faith that this franchise can put everything together for the 3-4 week run that’s required to win a championship. There’s a killer instinct that’s just lacking… although the defense actually impressed me with their play this post season. I think Jason Garrett was one of the worst things to ever happen to this franchise, and we’re still feeling the effects of his robotic, soft, yes man culture. He infected the locker room with an almost politician like personality.

That said, I don’t know how someone would be able to root for another team after following one so closely for so long. It just becomes a part of you. Like how I hate the city of Philadelphia.

As one of the nicer members of the 'Zone, you didn't deserve that.

In a parallel world, picture this man being tarred and feathered as punishment.
In public. As is family cries in shame. While his young daughters turn away
each wearing a fresh, new Joe Burrow jersey!... lol/jk

Good topic. Fair point.

Thanks!
I am always curious why certain fans follow this team.
This team was very attractive in the 70s because of their excellence and character.
With such a poor post season performance the last 28 years, I was curious what attracted the younger fans.
Im interested in seeing the responses from our young generation Cowboys fans.
Great thread!!

You picked a team because they were winning, no other reason. No connection to the team or the city, that’s the definition of a front runner.
I grew up an hour from Pittsburgh in the 1970s and hated the Steelers - still do. If I wanted to be a front runner I could've bought a Terrible Towel anywhere - still could.

Telling someone who has supported a team for 40-50 years that they're a front runner really doesn't add up, especially when that team hasn't won a title since the 90s.

By the way, my favorite baseball team is the Pirates. If I'm a front runner then I'm not a very good one.
