How do you prove that you are better than the guys behind you if you are showing them in camp OTHER than you are GIVEN the position?

Xwalker posted a quote in another thread from Lovie Smith re: Da'Quan Bowers in another thread I found absolutely shocking compared what we hear from the Cowboys coaching staff and front-office:

"I think every day you don't practice you're hurting your chances," coach Lovie Smith said. "We've seen enough to like Da'Quan a lot. But all the reps that he's not getting, someone else is getting them. The best way to beat your competition sometimes is just to stay on the field. You can't get Wally Pipped.

That quote sounds like something Parcells would say to the media as a message to the player.

That is not JG's style, I think they would just tell them behind closed doors, and not go through the media. I sure there is much more they say to the players, but just don't need to tell the media or fans about it.
And we know how the media would run with it, if something like that was said here.

I'm not going to stereotype on injury. The team knows the problems in his conditions, and what the advised progressions are. As frustrating as they appear to a fan...It's like on the battle field, John Waynes get shot and killed, all others are taught to keep their kevlars on and heads down.

I have to go with giving the real talent a chance to develop to a professional level. He's eventually going to do just that, either here in Dallas, or on another team. Cornerbacks in the NFL, hit battle hardened in years four to five.

I just have to swallow my emotions and stick with the kid for now.

I think Jason Garrett means it more as if you don't get the reps, you won't be prepared. Parcells was just a jerk about it, and that makes some guys around here moist, but Garrett's a better motivator and leader than Parcells, in my opinion.

I wonder if the team will treat this as a standard pre-season game and move the dress rehearsal to game 4.
It would make sense given our injury woes.

I don't think the team can risk anything with Claiborne right now.
They have to sell out to get him through weeks 1-4.

It does interest me that he engenders so much rampant hate while we have 3 or 4 guys who have not taken a meaningful snap yet this year.
He's played in 25 of the 32 games he's been in this league for. He's still 24.

Poor Sean Lee has been in 46 games and is already 28. He has played in 17 games during the time Mo has played in 25 and already will miss this entire season.

I disagree with you on this point, however, I will acknowledge that Bill Parcells was far from perfect and in his later coaching years almost seemed liked a caricature of himself.

I've seen no concrete evidence that JG is a good motivator or a good leader. When I think of those qualities in a coach you are to assume he is able to get players to play above and beyond what their natural abilities might otherwise limit them too. Who on the Cowboys has surprised in that manner?

Only one comes to mind for me -- that is Barry Church.

What happened to the good old days if you don't practice you don't play.

The good old days are long gone. Now a days the Cowboys have to play the best players they have regardless if they practice if they want to have any chance of winning. With all the injuries they suffer they would have a tough time fielding a respectable team on Sundays if they had a no practice no play rule.

Now a days the team is so fearful of losing a player for Sunday they have them miss practice because they're cramping up. They have Romo missing practices just to play it safe. With Garrett's job on the line this season he's not about to have a rule that's going to prevent his best players from seeing the field on Sundays.

I remember when Parcels forced that OG (Peterman) to go back in the game despite having injured his knee. He blew it out on the next play and was done for the season.

It's past time for guys like him. Which makes me even more suspicious about Woicik, as well.

Yes understand the overall reason but for a guy like Clairborne I don't see that. I think the team would benefit from actual game reps from a guy who needs them. Romo and Clairborne are not in the same class; while both need reps; they are clearly more essential for a young unproven CB than they are for a battle tested veteran QB.

At the Academy, I wasn't put in an arm cast until after the season was fully over. And then told to keep it on for six weeks.

Bill Parcells left there just before Ben Martin arrived.

There are a couple of things involved here.

First is individual pride. It takes that to commit all out to committing and then sacrificing.

To maximize individual pride, there has to be good leadership that waters those roots specificly.

This Cowboys team has never quit or given up, no matter game conditions, on Jason Garrett.

I therefore, must surmise that Jason Garrett is additionally a good motivator.

Claiborne certainly needs the reps but he's too busy battling injuries to get them. He's going to have injury issues all season I've pretty much given up on him ever becoming a solid reliable player. He'll be gone maybe even before his contract is up. As for Romo reps are essential for him because he plays the most important position on the team and needs to be sharp entering the season. He spent the entire offseason rehabbing his back and needs the reps to be ready to go.

He was held back in OTA's and in training camp so he needs to practice. He looked pretty good last week but he didn't play much and according to reports will only play 2 series on Saturday. It will be 15 days before he plays again and I'm not so sure he's going to be sharp with the limited reps he's been getting this summer. He's going to be a facing a very stout SF defense opening day.

The Cowboys aren't in the minors any longer. They should be fully up for the very best defenses in the NFC now.

The offensive line gets to put on their big boy pants now, and start proving their worth. I'm not crying for them, but am ready to watch some good and also sound offensive play by the Cowboys. Even mistakes mentally will fall by the wayside this year.
