I thought he just got pressure and misfired. I didn't think romo did anything wrong or Williams did anything wrong. But hey it's Williams first game I will give him a pass. I would've thought he would've played more then he did though.

Looked like the timing was just off between them on that route and on the sideline comeback later in the game.

I'd have to go back and look to see if Williams used a double-move or stutter step on the deep route, which would have slowed him down if he was running a fly. Romo could have been expecting more speed from him if that's the case, but I don't know.

I'm at work so this will be after 6am before I can see the DVR. You may be right. I recall Babe being pretty emphatic that Dez still has work to do. But then that may have been the fumble as well.

The fumble sucked for sure bit he did have 2 hands on the ball until he put his right arm down to brace his fall. The defender just made a really good play and it was so close to not being a fumble. Def not something to be overly worried about IMO. I think Babe is being a little touchy. Lets be honest Dez looks pretty polished probably the best he's looked since coming into the league.

On the flipside, Babe Laughenberg was a bust as a QB, but his analysis on the Cowboys ranks up there with the gold standard for many people. These guys gotta start somewhere, I wouldn't hold Jesse's lack of on-field success against him...at least not right now.

No doubt. I wonder how much ball has been played by the likes of Bob Costas, Jim Rome, and Colin Cowherd. If you apply that logic to everything Garrett should not be the head coach.

The story of the game wasn't this over throw/wrong route play with romo and williams. The story of the game is another bad week from the return game and those damn turn overs taking points off the board. Shooting ourselves in the foot has been our M.O the past few years and it will cost us the playoffs again if it comes up in the regular season. I know its pre season but c'mon now that was absurd.

6 turnovers.. unreal.

Yet, if we connect on what should have been an easy throw and catch there.. we still win the game.

I agree turnovers kill us, but so do mistakes like that.

How often do we see Romo not hit the open receiver? Not a lot. How often do we see us turn it over when driving? Much more often. Miscommunication or bad throws will happen to every offense. Turning it over at the rate tht we did yesterday and have been in previous years don't happen to playoff teams. That's plays a much larger role in our failures than this play.

Can someone tell me me why Williams isn't playing more? He might be good, but he has to get some game time experience in the NFL. It's not like he was the best WR in NCAA, or a returning vet..Frederick is out there busting his butt for more than 2 quarters.

It's August and we are fixated on some big blame game over a throw in a practice game?

Romo was 7-10 for 140+ yards. Williams is an exciting rookie receiver.

Let it go.

You guys said the same thing last week when he took the sack instead of throwing to a wide open Dez Bryant.

14 pts left on the field by your $100M QB. Unacceptable.

Sadly, that has been the story of the team the past few years. It shouldn't be that way, but any mistakes are magnified because the team is rarely involved in blowouts.

I see the excuses for Romo have started even in Preseason. It was a horrible throw. Brady on a bum knee would have made that throw.

Concussion. He's been sitting out for a bit due to that. Probably longer than he'd do it during the regular season. They are just being a bit cautious. I get the impression the Cowboys' coaches are pretty pleased with his prospects, but rookies are almost always going to have some issues.

Not sure how much it matters where the miscommunications are happening. It's enough that they're happening.

That said, it's preseason, which is where the communication is supposed to get worked out. Getting upset about preseason performances is like not liking how your birthday cake turned out before you even put it in the oven.

it was a bad throw, there was no miscommunucatin, only excuse making.

the guy played well after the overthrow. romo has overthrown that route atleast ten times over the past few seasons.

other than that pass, he looked good

What other route could he have ran? lol

He was sprinting wide open down the sideline and the ball was overthrown.

If the wrong route was ran then Romo knew it and had already adjusted before he ever threw the ball.

Teleport route.

I missed that drive and haven't seen it. But what you're saying contradicts Brad Sham's commentary in the OP, which is probably why you think you're reading excuse making. Sometimes miscommunications happen, and sometimes they look like bad throws. There's probably not enough data to know on this one, one way or another, but Sham's comment indicates that he's heard something we have not.

Either way, I don't really care. The outcome is the same, and I don't expect QBs to not have the occasional overthrow, anyway.

I see your point, and agree, but the part about Garrett doesn't help.
