Twitter: Sham: Romo's overthrow to TWill was different route...Romo vid Post #79

No doubt. I wonder how much ball has been played by the likes of Bob Costas, Jim Rome, and Colin Cowherd. If you apply that logic to everything Garrett should not be the head coach.

1) It's pre-season. I'm not sweating it.

2) It's good to see the Tony Romo Defense Team is already in mid-season form.

With the FS cheating to Dez and Austin's side, Romo knew he was going to Williams with Powers in single high, press coverage - presnap.

Powers severely underestimated William's speed and footwork. Williams turned Powers around with his stem of the route (with a very subtle inside move) and gained separation after 5-6 yds.

After listening to Romo's post game interview I knew that Romo overthrew him. Williams broke towards the sideline *away* from the FS help which is the correct adjustment in that situation. You don't run inside breaking routes in single high coverage - especially when the FS is cheating to the other side of the field. The throw was towards the sideline...

I'd bet $5 dollars that the original play was something else and Romo signaled to Williams with his left arm while looking at him and that was the audible to run the fly.

Nice try Brad Sham but let's be honest here, Romo simply overthrew Williams.

Yes, Romo missed him, no big deal. Its preseason, its a practice game and that's what its all about, PRACTICE. Geez!! Romo made a lot of nice throws but he missed one, so what. Smh!!! The entire offense was rolling, Romo had plenty of time. We just need to hold onto the rock. Romo missing a rookie on a overthrow in a presesaon game is no big issue.

65 posts and no one got it right.

The route adjustment was correct, the speed he came out of it was not. He ran the route like a college guy. I am open and I will wait for the ball. You have to be at full speed at all times. Austin will still do the same thing when he gets behind a cb. A good QB assumes you will run at full speed and that is where lead will be. If you do not go full speed you will be overthrown.

It should be a simple fix. Just tell Williams that when you beat comeone, RUN.

It looked like an overthrow to me, but can't be sure everyone was on the page.
But yes, unless Williams did a hesitation move, and assuming all were on the page, the timing was off there. They'll get that down.

For the most part, Romo looked very sharp. Not perfect though

Williams needed to keep up his speed. He did not and we will never know if Romo was accurate or not there

Exactly. The ball was clearly overthrown, but it looked like it was largely because Williams stopped running once he beat his defender. Either way, that's what preseason is for. The two of them will get their connection down.

Everyone's always trying to make an excuse for Romo, amazing.

lol... Exactly. I watched the game with 2 other friends, one of which is a massive Romo fan... even blind at times. All 3 of us said it was clear as day Romo overthrew him. It is comical to me that Romo fans try to come up with an excuse to absolve Romo on that play.

Sure it is just preseason and nobody is perfect but you have got to make that throw when your WR is wide open. Romo is too good to miss that throw.

You do realize that just because the ball is overthrown that doesn't mean it has to be on the QB right? I'm not saying it wasn't in that case, but it was pretty evident that Williams stopped running once he beat his defender and went into what looked like a jog.

An EASY one. So what if it's preason, your 108 million dollar QB should make that throw 99% of the time, no questions asked.

When Miles "lost it in the lights" we didn't mind bringing down the hammer on him, let's stop defending Romo when he screws up.

So are we to conclude Brad Sham is just making stuff up here? I have not known him to do so in the past.

I only saw the play once so I have no opinion one way or the other. But Sham has inside access to the team. If he heard this it is probably from a team source and 100% more reliable then the guy on ufcrules couch.

don't waste your time with him. Ufcrules is proud that he is the #1 Romo hater on this board. Romo could win SB MVP three times and ufcrules would still say he was a bum

You can watch the Romo interview. Romo himself confirms it.

Agreed, but why is that every poor throw Romo makes has to come with an excuse attached to it?
Tom Brady and Peyton manning miss throws like that now and then. BUT ROMO is not allowed to miss any according to you.
