Zeke was at least something prior. Dave Campo was at least a good assistant coach prior. What in the hell has the nepo baby done to deserve this gig?
He is probably the only dude they could find that would accept his replacement (Witten) being put on his staff for him.

Everybody else, including Boy Wonder, apparently told Jerry to F-off.

Perfect.
A so-so coach position coach, undistinguished at most places, but with a legacy name of Schottenheimer.
Blimey, Yoda.

Perhaps the other candidates, sensing a looming 5-12 season in 2025 and an inept QB on the downslope, ran as fast as they could.
Then again, lads, Schotty would be the inexpensive alternative.

What if it works?

Let me guess...

A message board full of ghosts.

lame. ghosts are lame. lying is lame. villain sheet is lame.
Well, what Jerry has done as GM for the past 30 years dam sure has not worked..................I mean, that is not a guess, that is a dam fact.

So, why should anybody expect what Jerry does next to suddenly work, when we have 3 decades of failure under his tenure as GM.

You know what doing the same thing over and over again, yet expecting different results is?

If for HC... would make OC and DC hires that much more consequential than they already were.

If for HC... this is a Jimmy Johnson hire, folks. This is Jerry listening to Jimmy.

Begs the question... will Jimmy be the ex officio head coach?
If Jimmy Johnson truly is behind telling Jerry to hire Brian Schottenheimer as his next head coach, no one had better defend Jimmy Johnson ever again! What a stupid move that would be.

The only way you can get Witten to leave HS Private school is to bring in Shottenheimer. It is the cost of doing business.
That is definitely the stupid plan. Promote Schottenheimer to head coach in order to bring in Jason Witten as an assistant coach and groom him to become the next head coach in 2 - 3 years.

Horrible and stupid costly decision.

I don't want to hear from all the numbskulls who bashed me for wanting to tank since the Thanksgiving game loss in order to draft as high as possible in each round to best be able to help the team through the draft. Y'all said tanking would hurt the veterans whose contracts were up, plus send the wrong message to the team. Well, promoting Schottenheimer to head coach so he could hire and train Jason Witten the next 2 - 3 years is actually real tanking and a waste of those players' primes and contracts.

And here I was thinking it was going to be bad if they signed up Kellen Moore.

Can‘t wait to see how the fanbase reacts to a Schottenheimer HC signing.

Someone please find an incriminating email on Jethro!

What’s amazing to me is Jerry knows the fan reaction to this is going to be bad. He’s almost doing it to show the fans he’s in control.
I don't think he is remotely close to toying with fans like that. Jerry has been easily living and operating with a mountain of criticism of being owner and GM for decades. He certainly isn't an insecure person that he has to resort to those appearances tactics. Jerry is highly self directed, obstinate and inept franchise owner and GM and his "one of the average joes" persona is deflective, manipulative and fake.

When you are in your 80s with a looming short shelf life and rich almost beyond measure there is no need to re-establish who is in control or engage in power tricks. I think the only thing that might humble him is his biological mortality.

Schottenheimer is a sacrificial coach to pair with Dak. The team will fail miserably and the Arch Manning sweepstakes will begin. Every year we hear how Dak needs a RB, Dak needs a WR, Dak needs a TE. He has had the world given to him at the expense of the defense. If I'm Jerry screw Dak I'm building the DLine and LBs

Jerry has been acting funny all year. I think he is dealing with some kind of health issue and if that's the case I suspect the coaching hire will be all about familiarity.

I agree. I was taken back by Jimmys suggestion. One must wonder if he's that good at evaluating what it takes these days in the NFL on a coaching level. But 1 thing we should give Jerry credit for is, he's obviously talking to Jimmy and he's listening. We can't deny this. We should be very critical of Jerry but he's not making these hires or potential hires outta thin air. I'm willing to see what happens before I cast stones, if shotty is the hire. Now lets say he's named the new HC, then the staff will be extremely vital to his success. Those are the hires I'm more interested in. Im fairly sure Mike Zimmer is retiring. I bet Saleh will be named the new DC. We can't rule out a curveball there either. What about our dline coach Jeff Zuniga? I'm spelling his last name wrong lol...but if you have watched him speak and listened, the guy commands a room. Hès alot like Dan Campbell. He played for 17 years, hes been coaching for a long time now and is a winner. The players universally love the guy and his tenacity. He helped get our dline better as the season went along. I'd like to retain him and elevate Greg Ellis to dine coach. Of course, that means we need to resign them.

Sounds like a terrible choice. So I fully expect this to be the play now. Everyone else continues to improve and we take monumental steps backward. Cool.

Whoa whoa whoa slowdown there

This lines up perfectly with Jerry's plan to bring Witten on staff. If Schott is still doing all the OC work, then Witten can have the OC title and begin his internship. Titles don't matter in Dallas anyway. The team is run by committee.

We're reaching New York Jets levels of ineptitude.
That's an insult to the Jets who have a better playoff record, and have been to two CCGs in the 21st Century. We could only hope to rise up to the level of the Jets.

He abides.......
Schotty will abide and hire Witten. But I don't think he's the only prospect willing to do that. What makes Schotty "unique" is he also offers offensive consistency for remedial Dak.

Is this hire the least amount of work possible? Yes? Check.
Does this require Jerry to learn anyone's names? No? Check.
Does this person expect to make any real decisions? No? Check.

All the boxes have been checked. Get er done lets go.

so your gonna go on record and say you think Jerry has a plan? I think you are correct and we have seen this plan before, think less about team building plan and more "He is the next Tom Landry" of the Cowboys...JW is in the fast lane ....lol.

You would think a man who's time on earth is clearly winding down wouldn’t want to throw away 3-4 more years.
