Hurts last year wasn't all that unlike Wentz year 2.
I'd think Philly fans had learned some things.

Hurts was a league average level guy in 2021, after a 1-3 rookie stretch that was uninspiring.
He has 1 Pro Bowl (level season) to his credit.

He was great last year, but it was 1 year.
He absolutely had the plus OL, plus WR corps, plus defense that can create one-year aberrations.
Doesn't mean he won't excel going forward and a lot of that talent comes back for the Eagles.
They should be excited.
But they should also be aware.
Late in the regular season with people out resting dings the Eagles very not at all great.
And last year they played a bottom 3 schedule.
They still haven't had much success versus Dak-led Dallas teams.
Jalen seems a great guy and good player.
Is he worth 50MM AAV though?
Philly has to decide and they better decide fast because it's nearly impossible to add void years and other stuff to QB deals if you don't extend them early.
We’re definitely signing him, and I agree it was only 1 year. But Hurts last year was worlds different than Wentz in 2017. Did you know Wentz only completed 60% of his passes that year? Even Hurts in his average year still completed a higher % of passes than Wentz that year, and people said he couldn’t throw. Hard to believe but it’s true.

But also Hurts was on fire in the playoffs. You can discredit the competition, but he still has to pull the trigger. Beat NYG worse than any team beat them all year. Purdy was out so the NFCC game wasn’t competitive, but Hurts still put 31 on the #1 D. And then he went toe to toe with Mahomes.

I agree it’s only 1 year like Wentz, but I don’t agree those 1 years are comparable

Let me help you out this fine Sunday morning….the poster said…..

Almost along the lines that big money players don't provide big results

Despite having Daks salary they have managed to win 12 games two seasons straight. Now if you want to believe their playoff success is because of Daks salary fine. But any team would take 12 wins seasons any day of the week.
12 wins back to back and? Do you think winning a division is something to brag about?

We still lost on Minshew’s turnovers. And then he laid an egg the next game against a losing team.

Everyone benefits from great supporting cast. Rodgers doesn’t make the playoffs with a worse team after multiple NFCCG appearances. Without his all pro Oline, Mahomes doesn’t make it out of the second round against Jacksonville, a 1 possession game

QBs elevate teams to wins, but they aren’t the whole team
You had the ball last possession with a chance to win. Minshew is not Hurts. I’m just saying he played good enough to win that day.

How is Hurts elevating his defense?

Did I say it was? I’ve said my point numerous times. The objective is to win a SB. You can’t win a SB if you don’t make the playoffs. So the notion you can’t build a contender is a myth. You can build a contender with Daks deals. But sure let Stephen keep telling you they can’t…

He elevates the overall team. He wins games we could have (and sometimes should have) lost. What you want out of your QB. We lose to Lions without Hurts. We very possibly lose to Dallas game 1 without Hurts. His knack for not turning the ball over won us that game more than any play he made. We lose to Indy without Hurts, we lose to GB without Hurts, very possibly Jac without Hurts. Texans is questionable, even though we had broken Hurts week 17, I don’t trust Minshew to close out that game (and neither did Sirianni).

Agree. This draft has some really good QBs past the first round. I am going to scream if they do not draft a QB that they like in the 3-4th round.
That’s too early. Backup qb is not a need. They need depth and rotational guys and they can snag a guard in that 3rd.

So he elevated y’all to beat the Texans, Lions and Colts? Those teams sucked lol.

No. I would like them to draft a potential replacement for Dak in the next 2-3 years.
Yeah but they aren’t getting rid of Dak anytime soon so whoever it is would just be a backup for a few years. You draft a guy now and he starts when? 3 years down the road when he has one year left on his contract? You’ve wasted 3 years of his rookie deal….the whole perk of drafting a guy is hope you can have him on his rookie deal
And build around him.

You are bragging about him elevating y’all to beat some dogs…yet you accuse Dak of not doing the same?
Not being the difference at the end of the season. Lesser games early on have a major effect later. Jalen never lost a game where he had the lead in the 4th quarter. Dak doing so against Jax and GB cost you the NFCE. That in turn cost you a #1 seed and indirectly a NFCCG birth.

“What” is never as important as “How”

Well that’s different. If you want to say he helped y’all beat dogs that’s one thing. But if you’re trying to tell me he elevated your team to beat actual competition that’s lost on me.

Sometimes the competition is dogs. I dont make the schedule. At the very least you gotta beat the teams you’re expected to beat

There is context to your 4th quarter stat though, one team could run the ball and would the other well we needed to go shotgun because well who knows. Also one team's defense didnt let A-rod and a no name WR have a career day in the second half and the other did. I will agree Jalen played withing the bounds of what was asked and did it very well last year for sure.

Dak still was given the opportunity to maintain that lead. The game wasn’t yet over. It’s one thing to say “the QB did enough the first 3 quarters to ride this out for a win”. But Dak isn’t being paid 40m$ AAV for the first 3 quarters. In both Jax and GB he was a completely different QB in the 4th and overtime as he was before that. There’s a huge difference between doing enough not to lose, and doing enough to win

And I’m not talking about the bad drop in OT against Jax, that game should have been over way before that

So would you say Hurts made the biggest mistake of last year in the biggest game then? again the eagles win that game if hurts doesnt give them a defensive TD..Do i believe this no, but its going down the same road your driving.

Biggest Individual play mistake, but I wouldn’t say that cost us the game any more than any 1 single play from Dak lost those 2 games. Hurts continued to play at a high level after that moment

Thats why i said it, in those games just like in the SB eventually players will make mistakes...the other side needs to step up also. Hurts needed his defense to make some plays and they just couldn't when the chips were down.

We lost, but it can be argued at the end of the game Hurts put his team in position to win. When Mahomes was driving, Hurts was answering. We knew the D was folding and he did what he could to compensate. I think we punted once all game, and that fumble was the only turnover.
