Shouldnt the Saints be trying to improve their garbage Defense??? anyway good trade for the giants getting rid of shockey and getting 2 draft picks for him

I agree Da Hammer, but they did try to upgrade their defense. The Saints could be scary this year. They drafted Sed in the middle acquired Vilma at middle linebacker and brought in Gay at cornerback. If Vilma is healthy, Gay is able to cover, and Sed provides a good push in the middle plus help stop the run they will be a force in the NFC. Now they have Shockey to mix in with Brees, Golston, Macallister, and Bush I think they definitely upgraded on the offensive side. With all they have going for them they do have a lot of questions on offense and defense.

Will Vilma, Macallister, and Mckinzie return to 100% after their injuries? Will Gay work out or be another Jason David? Is Meachem a bust? Will Devery Henderson learn to catch? Will their offensive line run block better this year? Does the defense believe in Gary Gibb’s system? Those are a whole lot of questions that need to be answered for them to step up, but in their division and their schedule I think they have a very good chance to take the South and quite possibly position themselves for home field.

Can you name their starting WR's?

Could you name them last year when they had the 3rd ranked passing offense in the NFL, or the year before when they had the 1st ranked passing offense in the NFL?

This offense will have to avoid injuries again, and they will have to put together a secondary somehow...

Their secondary isn't in bad shape. They got Kenny Phillips and Terrell Thomas. Aaron Ross is improving and Sam madison is steady.

Plus they always have Nelly McQuarters back there.

They Secondary is improved and it doesn't really need to be that great because they have a consistent pass rush. They may need someone to fill in for The Gap snaps and production wise to keep their balance.

The NFC East this year is looking like it isn't going to be a Joke at all. I am glad to see Shockey take a hike but they are still a capable team.

What a horrible comparison. Teams covet Pro Bowl pass rushing DEs a lot more than pro bowl TEs. Especially when that certain TE is a headcase. End of story.

Horrible because you don't like it.

End of story...is you overpaid. Is he is better than Daniels? Who isn't would be my question?

Is he a good addition for you guys. Absolutely.

Could all work out for you guys in the end? Definitely.

Could you have just flushed a 2nd for a 34 year old guy who may not have much left in the tank? Absolutely.

Maybe you could explain why a Pro Bowl DE was available for a 2nd round pick and nobody had offered anything better until the Commanders were in a desperate situation because they just lost their starting DE for the season.?

You paid too much.

This doesn't change much in terms of our competition with New York. Boss did fairly well in Shockey's absence last year, even though he's far from the receiving threat. It does make New Orleans more of a threat for the NFC title.

In a way, it is sad. I was looking forward to Shockey being a distraction and pain in Eli's behind.

Exactly. This is a good move for the Giants and for the Saints. Shockey is better off on a team outside of NY and will probably produce more. The Giants chemistry will improve without Shockey there. Win-Win for them.

That means lose-lose for us. I hate everything about it.

Agreed. People are still hoping that Bush turns it around.

We'll see.

His back is not completely against the wall.

He had a very very nice rookie year. He killed us too when we played them.

He got injured last season. His only knock right now for me is can he recover from an injury.

When he steps on the field he draws a lot of attention. Teams wouldn't try to find him on every play if he wasnt a threat.

Your comparison was horrible because it was just that, horrible. You pretty much were saying we paid too much because we gave up a 2nd rounder for a 34 year old while the Saints gave up a 2nd rounder for a 27 year old. Maybe you didnt mean for it to come out that way, but it did. A Pro Bowl DE was available because he was in Parcell's doghouse and there was a risk he was going to retire after one year. Parcells HAD to get something for him. JT has assured the Skins front office that he will at least play out his contract. If Taylor only plays for one season then yes I agree that we have paid too much.

To say it and do it are two different things. He isn't binded to do that.

The point remains, to get a Pro Bowl DE for a second around pick speaks volumes about the situation. He didn't play as well last year, and he seems preoccupied of sorts. He like Tiki Barber, has made it clear he is looking at his future right NOW and the NFL isn't part of it. The only reason I believe he is playing this year is because there is no way he will make $8M in Hollywood.

In other words, "...get while the gettin's good!"

He is still a good player, you (and we) won't know what you actually got until the season is underway.

Put it this way. I don't see too many teams giving 2nd round picks out for 34 year old players.

Maybe I am wrong. Maybe that is the going rate.

I am hardly comfortable with Dallas relying heavily on a 34 year old WR, much less if Dallas would have traded a 2nd and 6th for him.

Parcells did indeed have to get something from him. I just find it interesting that he found a taker as soon as you guys got into trouble at DE.

As you said earlier, Pro Bowl DE are at a premium. So no other takers for a 2nd and 6th for a Pro Bowl DE? Must be some catch? Maybe...because he is 34 years old (when the season starts).

There are several scenarios that I can envision in which this trade will "work out" for you guys.

However, if I were a gambling man...and I am not, I would put the odds that this is a very expensive band aid when it is all said and done.

Ha ha! I can not wait for the idiot Giants fans who honestly think this move is the best for them in the long run find out that Boss isn't all that great an option.

I keep hearing about how much of a stud he was but tell me again how many passes he caught during the playoffs? 2? 3?

Oh yeah. MUCH better option.

HA HA!

I disagree.

2nd round for a guy whose gonna give you about 12 sacks is not a bad trade. Prior to Ware in 2006, anyone have a clue how long it had been since Dallas had a double-digit sack player. I think, and this is just off the top of my head, it was like 10 years. Thats just for 10 sacks. I realize that part of that was crappy management, drafting and such but that just goes to show you how hard it is to find sack specialists.

If they get a couple years of his recent play, its a great deal.

Yeah, I don't really believe in the addition by subtraction theory in this case.

Well...now I disagree. :D

A 2nd for a 34 year old guy who produced in the past, but is no guarantee for the future due to age, is a concern.

When football players start hitting 34 and 35 years of age the fall can come hard and fast.

If it is any consoloation to Skin fans, I worry about TO. I really do. I know he is in shape, but things start happening when you are that age in the NFL and it is not alway predicatable.

Having said that we have to roll with what we got. I sure would not be in favor of Dallas buying an insurance plan for TO that went something like this: Wide Out, Pro Bowl player, 34 years old, - Yours for a 2nd and a 6th

I know there are exceptions and we can talk about them all day long...Brett Favre just to get the ball rolling.

Again, I am not saying the Skins should be banished to football hell for this trade. Well they should be banished to football hell, but not for this trade.

I just don't think it is a "super smart" trade.

Wow, same story, different day!

First, Jason signs with the Skins and now they are a big threat to the Cowboys...woe is me!

Now, Shockey signs with the Saints and now they are a big threat to the Cowboys for the SuperBowl...on noze...woe is me!

There sure are alot of fraidy-cats on this board!

Maybe tomorrow the 49'ers will trade for a disgruntled player and then...."oh no! Now the 49'ers are gonna spoil the Superbowl for the Cowboys"...Help me, help me, help me..."!!!

Wow...

Live in fear, and fear will come your way!!

I gotta disagree.

I think they will be a better TEAM longterm without Shockey.

He is just to big of an idiot and goes completely sour at the wrong times.

I wouldn't take Shockey over a lot of TE's in the NFL because of it.

His play isnt good enough to back up his baggage.
