Shockey to Saints for 2nd and 5th rd picks *Merge*

What more did you expect them to get? Randy Moss is twice the player shockey is and shockey probably has a worse attitude than moss and the raiders only got a freakin 4th for him. if you ask me the Giants were lucky that anyone was willing to offer what the Saints offered

Moss was coming off a three year stretch where his BEST season was 60 catches. He had several nagging injuries over that period that sapped his speed add to that repeated accusations (and admissions) that he did not give 100% and you've got low value for a guy who had turned 30.

Shockey is 27 and was having an outstanding year before he got injured last year. His performance never slipped and he's younger. That's why his value is so much higher.

The Saints just became legitimate contenders. I have no clue why they started out so poorly last year, but they certainly did not finish that way.

I'm confused?

I thought that Jason Taylor going to the Skins made them legitimate contenders?

:bang2:

i love it how one player is going to dramatically improve both the Commanders and saints. from the sounds of things we might as well give up the season because the saints and Commanders are gonna be in the nfc championship game.

Neither one of those teams are bad, so stop trying to be so dramatic.

Shockey is a big addition to the Saints, he's the best TE they've had in nearly forever.

Will somebody please explain to me why Shockey was so unhappy in NY? He's a rich, good looking guy playing for the Super Bowl champions in the world's #1 media market. How can New Orleans beat that? Some people are just determined to be miserable.

Saints r gonna be a thorn in our side.I despise them more than most.

I'm pretty sure that I never said that about the Skins. They still have a lot of questions to address. The Saints team that destroyed us at Texas Stadium two seasons ago hasn't really changed much and just spent an entire offseason getting better. Obviously, we got better also, but I'm just hoping that our team doesn't have the same mentality that you have because when you start thinking you're the best without question, teams like the Giants come in and defeat you in the playoffs on your home turf. Ring a bell?

I really do hope our team is not as arrogant as some of the fans have become. Some people on this board consider it a huge sin to even mention that another team could present us with a challenge this season. If you're that blindly in love with Dallas, than get off this site and start petitioning to Goodell to put us in the Super Bowl right now since apparently it's a foregone conclusion that we're going to win the NFC.

Coughlin's system is a run-first. Shockey was unhappy how he was used in the offense-he wanted to be involved in the passing game more, but was asked to block more than he wanted.

With Payton's pass-happy schemes, he'll be used very properly there. And Reggie Bush's numbers will go UP, thanks to Shockey's blocking abilities.

A couple of reasons...

1) They overachieved in '06, and ended up thinking bringing back their same roster in '07 + merely adding depth would put them over the top. Mark Simoneau at MLB? Scott Shanle at WLB? Yeah-they played great in '06, but please...

2) Like Parcells would say, "They ate the cheese". With all the hype from all the national sports media in the offseason over how they would win the Super Bowl, it's obvious they believed every word of their own press clippings.

After all, after starting 0-4, they DID bounce back to win 4 in a row and got back into the swing of things...until they ate the cheese again.

With that being said-unlike last year, they made all the necessary upgrades on D. Their secondary is still a question mark, but they should still win 11-12 games.

I don't live in the past about what happened last year.

And as far as arrogant? No...I replace that with "confidence"! I don't do the crybaby crap that "on no! Taylor to the Skins...Shockey to the Saints...now what" crap!

I stay positive about the Cowboys...I don't worry about anyone else. But, if it frets your little mind? Hey, go for it! ;)

Ah, so it's all about him and his needs, not necessarily winning. Jason Taylor left a losing team; Shockey has no such excuses.

Two things...

Are the saints for real or are they doomed to just be the same old snakebit saints they have always been with a year or two of hope and good teams that seem to cycle through there every so many years?

Secondly I ashamed of my fellow cowboys brethren for not posting what we will miss about shockey...

Down in New Orleans, he will be drunk the night before a game!

THANK GOD! Roy will once again look like Ronnie Lott!!! :D

that might be stretching it a bit there...

I disagree.

2nd round for a guy whose gonna give you about 12 sacks is not a bad trade. Prior to Ware in 2006, anyone have a clue how long it had been since Dallas had a double-digit sack player. I think, and this is just off the top of my head, it was like 10 years. Thats just for 10 sacks. I realize that part of that was crappy management, drafting and such but that just goes to show you how hard it is to find sack specialists.

If they get a couple years of his recent play, its a great deal.

No doubt right there... It never hurts my feelings to get a pass rusher... I've seen so many fail tho which is just hard to watch.... Remember the Tony Brackens draft where we opted to drop out of the 1st and select Kavika Fireball Pittman??:(

I'm glad we seem to be developing some guys from the draft in these years... Ware and Spencer especially.

I would like to think with our Additions in the Secondary we are in much better shape to play the Saints.

atleast we don't have to worry about Roy covering him this year

That Nov. game against Payton's Saints, he had plenty of experience against Bill's/ours defense.

Now he'll have to game plan for somewhat of the unknown (weaknesses, tendences, play calling). He'll have only game film and not actual experience against our upgraded and new defensive scheme.

Shouldnt the Saints be trying to improve their garbage Defense??? anyway good trade for the giants getting rid of shockey and getting 2 draft picks for him

Do you realize N.O. picked up Jonathon Vilma, Sedrick Ellis, Bobby McCray, Randall Gay, and Tracy Porter. All these players will greatly help the defense.
