Look it up. I'd be curious to see it, too.

Here's what he said about Jason: "Jason Garrett was named Coach of the Year of the whole NFL last year,” Jones said on 105.3 The Fan in Dallas, via Drew Davison of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. “That was yesterday. This is today. The point is, I like this coaching staff.”

Pretty explicit.

Jerry could fire him if the team up and quits on him. I don't think that will happen.

If it doesn't, you guys are getting your hopes up and are going to be disappointed again.

lol knock yourself out
BTW, I'm pretty sure that Jerry gave Wade the dreaded vote of confidence just like he gave Garrett

Wade tells the story in his book (from ********: Book excerpts that don't suck):

Cliftnotes:

Jerry Jones is a great guy until he fires you.

First of all, who is we? Many of us wanted Romo to start once he was healthy.

Secondly, many of us have been calling for Garrett to be replaced for years, so this is not something new.

Our objection to Garrett is simple, he has not produced adequate results for the time frame he has been given. In seven years, he has won just a single playoff game, the only other head coach in the league that has been with his same team during this time span and won the same or fewer playoff games is Marvin Lewis.

So Jason Garrett and Marvin Lewis are the only two head coaches in the NFL that have been with their teams seven or more seasons with one or fewer playoff victories. Every other head coach in the NFL during this same time frame has either won multiple playoff games or was fired.

Apparently Cinci and Dallas are the only two teams that tolerate mediocre results year in and year out.

Or else they believe things other than coaching can contribute to losing playoff games.

Any idea how many coaches overall have fewer than one playoff win? If it's just coaching that wins playoff games as your argument suggests, any coach with a team good enough to qualify for playoffs ought to have a team good enough to win multiple playoff games if their teams simply won't tolerate mediocre results.

I think it's more likely that most teams think there are multiple factors that can contribute to good teams losing playoff games, and not all of them are related to coaching.

In lieu of making a new thread ill just put this here, why does Garret seem to always hold up his one finger to go for the extra point{as opposed to the 2 pt conversion} when its like 6-0?

And this is a friendly disagreement, but serious question.......At what point does a head coach actually have to deliver results since coaching, at any level, is a results oriented business. Say we don't make the playoffs this year, maybe we make them next year and lose again in our first game, ect......does Garrett get 8 yrs, 10 yrs, 12 yrs, or no timetable at all?

For example, since I am a UT alumni, I follow the Longhorns pretty close. Charlie Strong got 3 years and he never won the Big 12 so he was fired and replaced by Tom Herman who went 6-6 this season (sounds familiar). It has not been announced what bowl UT is playing in, but Herman dam well better win it. And he dam well better improve and win more than 6 games next season, or there are going to be rumors of him be escorted off the 40 acres just like Charlie Strong. The University of Texas does not tolerate losing seasons and losing bowl games, so the idea that some head coach can just cruise for 6, 7, 8 years and never win a dam thing would be laughable at UT, coaches have to deliver results.

So that is why I am asking, what time frame is appropriate to expect better results from Garrett since technically he should be improving his system and acquiring the players he needs to properly run his system. How many years should this take?

Always friendly.

Remember first that I don't think Garrett hasn't shown any results. The way I see it, he took over a bad team in a bad cap situation after the new CBA and kept it competitive while rebuilding it over the course of three seasons. From there, he's had a competitive team, interrupted by the 2015 injury season. But during that time he's won more games than ~24 or so other teams, despite the rebuild and the setbacks.

Then I look to why the team actually loses games. Yes, he's contributed to a few of the losses, and it's frustrating. By and large, we're losing games because either the injury at QB (2015) or because of the talent not on defense. The Romo thing sucked, but we see that happen elsewhere to other good organizations (see GB this season). I hate it, but I think it's parity.

The defensive talent is another thing. This is where I blame Garrett the most. He messed up two DC hires. And the organization has whiffed in assembling talent around him. A lot of that whiffing has Jerry written all over it (Hardy. Gregory. McClain. Jaylon. Mo.). Garrett signed off on it, so he owns it. But deep down we know there's a Jerry tax to be paid in Dallas by every coach. Now, some of these moves I actually liked at the time, too (Hardy and Gregory and Mo). Oops. But they didn't work out.

As to how long I'd give him, regardless. I'm letting this season play out. Believe it or not, if we manage to get into the postseason somehow, I'd consider it a successful job of coaching keeping the team together through a circus again. That could buy more time. But either way, I'd give him through next season. You're right that at some point post season success has to happen or the program stalls. Even if we bothe know the NFL is set up nothing like college football.

Serious answer? I’ll give it to you. He is probably telling the ST unit they are going for 1. Since we rarely go for 2 I can’t tell you if he holds up 2 fingers as I’ve never paid attention

If we want a championship, Garrett needs to go.
If we are simply satisfied with making playoffs and exiting in the future, then Garrett is lower risk because we dont rock the boat.
Garrett (and Marinelli) was good for taking a broken down team and take it to the next level, but we are stuck at this mediocrity.

He fails to adjust to the opponent in the game, does not put in mechanisms to address previous failures (time keeping, rodgers tricks etc), and does not bring an up-to-date offense or defense to the team.
Jimmy Johnson would never have allowed these failures, and this has happened over his tenure.
His team seems to coast that reflects his seemingly lack of fire and passion for the game.

The HC position is a proven way to bring in a top OC or DC who can bring the offense or defense scheme. I prefer an OC because offense is the strength of this team and it needs to be as good as we can get. The new HC can bring in a DC who comes from a defense with an aggressive scheme like the Rams got their Philips.

That’s what 90% of the members here do. Think they know more than real football people.
