Should JG let Zeke try for the Eric Dickerson record?

It'd be pretty interesting next week if Zeke goes off for another ~160 v. Detroit. If it's in reach, it gives the whole team something to work towards to keep things focussed for a the next two games. As long as the carries don't spike dramatically.

Just think how much closer the record would be if a couple of the big runs weren't called back by holding calls early in the year.

I say play the Lions game like a normal game and if hes within reasonable reach against Philly let him go after it

Yes, if he has under 100 yards to go going into the philly game.

I say they still play to win. This team should have multiple goals including, playoffs, division, HFA, going 14-2, rushing record, and superbowl.

The rushing record is not just elliots, but the o-lines as well.

He can rest during the second half of the eagles and the bye week.

When OJ broke the 2000 barrier, his OL and really whole team were behind him and wanted him
to do that.

The Bills were also trying to make the playoffs the last 2 weeks of that 1973 season. He got 34 carries in the final game of that year.

I don't think they need to overload Elliott the last 2 games. I also don't think they should go completely easy on him. He needs to play both games and maintain a healthy does of rushing attempts. I don't thing they need to chase a record. If they really want the record then the o-line needs to open up some big holes. Simpson averaged almost 10 yards a rush in the 13th game(out of 14) of the 1973 season gaining 219 yards.

I would, but I am a little crazy, lol.
He is a young guy he doesnt need to be rested, and I think he wants that record.

Also it is a one time only chance to do it, since it is a rookie record.
Also Dickerson said EE could not break his record !! I say he can !

It would add to his threat level if he breaks it, like being leading rusher etc.

So I say let him go for it.

When OJ broke the 2000 barrier, his OL and really whole team were behind him and wanted him
to do that.

So our OL would share in that record with EE.

I doubt they let him do it or give him enough carries, but I think it would be good for the team as a whole
to try and do it.

I've been wanting the record since the first time Eric Dickerson said he wouldn't break it lol, but anyways the team goals are higher that that achievement but in sure they will see how this game ends in order to have a chance to break it against Phillthy.

Interestingly enough, I think parking him on the bench would be best for his MVP chances, if not the rookie record.

He's currently projected to finish 35 yards short. I can't imagine not letting him try to get it. Obviously, if the other team is keying on him it will be very difficult, but pass on them a few times and they will back off.

If rookies Zeke and Dak lead the Cowboys to a win in the Super Bowl, they will be remembered forever. It will be an achievement that could possibly be tied -- as unlikely as that may be -- but never exceeded.

I care more about a deep playoff run (and chance at the Super Bowl) than wearing down my RB and. Exposing him to injury in meaningless games.

This is how I feel. Treat week 16, like it's a win or go home game, for all 4 quarters and OT if necessary. Week 17, I think we should game plan, practice and prepare the same way, but I'd likely pull Elliot at the half unless he was ridiculously close to the record.

If he can do it in 15 carries or less then great. Otherwise, he is not gonna be a workhorse in meaningless games. As a HC, you sit down and tell him that he's on a "pitch count" so he better break out the long runs if he wants a chance

Agreed.

If anyone gets gets knocked out in the next 2 games and hurts playoff chances, the blame game will be on.

I realize opinions are going to be split, and frankly I see both side of the debate. But...

Hell yeah, I let the team try to go get that record. It will focus them and excite them beyond anything else that can happen in these last two games.

Let Ezekiel and his OL try to get their names written in the record books and gain a piece of football immortality. This is their only shot this year.

They're going to have a week off to rest up for the Divisional Playoffs anyway. They'll be fine.

Now if Detroit holds Zeke to something like 50 yards or something, then I'd probably play it differently. However, I'd make sure that Detroit players are sore as hell following their game with Dallas... just like teams always are.

Makes sense..
If he didn't play another game, the voters would not hold it against him. We only needed 14 games to wrap up the season, so he only played 14 games. His 14 game per game numbers are excellent. Going up against two decent teams with little to play for, I don't really think he's going to do a lot despite what the coaches say. He is almost certainly going to hurt his numbers. Keep in mind Murray rushed for 1845 yards, won offensive player of the year, but only got 2 MVP votes. You really need an amazing season from an RB to win the thing. If he didn't play another down, I think you could extrapolate a better finish than what he will actually do. Of course I say this knowing that if he goes out and rushes for 400 yards the next two games it would cement, not hinder, his case. But I don't think that will happen.

The easy answer is no because the Super Bowl is the goal; however, a big part of this season has been the attitudes of the young players that have refreshed the team. Getting the record would add to the atmosphere of a winning team. It's impossible to judge how much that can affect a team, but the concept of momentum is largely mental.
yes this is what I was thinking too.
It depends on how elliot feels about it and the OL, at start of year he said he wanted the 2000 yard, so he does like records.

and by no means should he be pushed or overworked to get it, just help him if thats what he wants.
He does like to be fed !

Record means nothing imo. play all that are healthy and don't change up the script. Ignore record, stack another win and let chips fall where they may.
