Should Marion Barber be our feature back? *MERGE*

really? so you think he's had GOOD blocking basically every game of his two yr career then? He's started 19 games and failed to gain 50+ yds twice...he's gained 70+ 15 times

:fact:

(Thanks for the new smilies, TB!!)

Question, late in the game when your trying to run the clock down which back is in the game? Myself I think Barber is more of a grinder than Jones and is able to pick up those tough yards. As I mentioned I like both backs but this is a 2 RB team this is not like what was taking place in the 90's with Emmitt

Hmm.

Barber is a good back. He'll can average 70 yards a game with bad blocking and break 100 regularly with good blocking.

Julius on the other hand is going to average maybe 50 yards a game with bad blocking. But he can break 150 regularly with good blocking.

Julius can freaking destroy a defense. Barber can't.

THat's a very good way to put it. I like them both, a lot, but Julius is the back who is more likely to break a defense's back. I do like watching Marion plow over people, but as one announcer said the other night, rather than running over a safety, he could have tried to put a move on him, it would be at least a few more yards and if really worked, could be a huge run.

I think if you take that Julius run against the Bears his rookie year, where he went like 40 yards to the end zone, he had to put a move on the two safetys that were collapsing on him, he did, and 6 points. I think Marion would have just tried to level one of them and gone down.

I like Julius Jones as the starter, but I really do like Marion Barber. He runs like a Baby Bull. He runs with purpose and he seems to always be looking for someone to run over. I do wish he would run to daylight more instead of trying to be Larry Csonka all the time. I think he leaves yards on the table from time to time. However, I really do like him on the goal line.

Agreed. Barber is a truck. Patient. Nothing wrong with that.
Julius has the moves and the possibility is a constant. From 0-60 he's faster. Better instincts. Only problem I see is he needs to get in a groove. There'll be a lot of grooves with a better OL.

Sorry, but that's one area where Barber is better. "Instincts" or "Vision", Barber has more of it.

Lateral movement, explosiveness, elusiveness... those belong to JuJo.

Why doesn't that Charger have a confederate flag on it yet? :wink3:

YYYyyyeeeHHHAAAaaa!!!!

:D

I got to blast it down, do the body work, etc... sadly I won't be putting a confederate flag on it (it's a '68, not a '69). It's gonna look more like the Blade charger (though not exact).

Baby Bull would be a great nickname for MBIII.

I believe this is Julius Jones' contract year, so that may give him more incentive to have a big year for us, and himself. Hopefully...he can remain healthy this season.

You don't see it ?

I love'm both but if JJ gets some lanes, he can light'em up !

Problem is if there are no lanes...He doesn't seen to look for one...or make one...or something...It's into the back of a pile.:D

I know what you are talking about, but not many backs go anywhere without a hole.

Maybe Barry Sanders, but he had as many negative runs as positive.

Most other backs need somewhere to get started.

Barber is always looking for someone to hit. I wonder if Parcells has him doing that?

Actually he signed a 4 year deal so next year is his last year, but Julius had better view this season as a contract year because I am pretty sure BP wouldnt hesitate to dump him/trade him if MB3 outplays him.

What was that movie. Scary Movie 2? Where it started out and there was one of the Christmas song CD commercials on with humorous song names. One was called "Anti Up B**ch, It's Christmas". Well, Julius, It's Christmas. :laugh2:

That being said, I am in no way rooting against Barber
That wouldn't make any sense

I'm not even going to argue you it anymore
We'll just have to wait until the season starts
Julius will emerge as elite this year though
I will say that
He deserved all of the hype he got his rookie year
I'm surprised that he isn't considered an upcoming star in the mold of Steven Jackson, McGahee and Cadillac
One injury and all of the sudden he is average
I'm not buying it

Sometimes JuJo has a hole, but doesn't make the necessary cut to get to that hole. I saw him do it a lot last year.

If what you say is true, then he is worthless.

I mean who needs a back that can't even run through an open hole.

I don't agree that that is true.

I kind of like the type of back that Barber is better myself, but I can't find much to complain about when discussing Jones, if he is healthy.

I described it the other day in another thread with a baseball analogy.

Barber is a 3 hitter with power, and Jones is a 4 hitter that can hit a HR on any play.

What? How so? I said SOMETIMES he misses the hole.

There has never been a RB in the history of the NFL to find the open hole everytime, does that mean all RBs that have ever played the game are worthless?

Now, granted, JuJo misses more open holes then I'd like, but that doesn't make him worthless. Every RB has a weakness or two, doesn't make them worthless.

And whether you agree with it or not is irrelevant. It's not an opinion, it's a FACT. The proof is on film.

I don't think he misses any more open holes than any other back.

Like you said, they all miss some.

But I don't think Parcells, or any HC for that matter, would start a RB that had a habit of missing open holes.

Why would they ?
