Coming out of college the book on JJ:

Not really a self-motivated player and does not take well to hard coaching … Is just a little too lazy digesting the playbook … Has adequate power, but not enough to take on defenders one-on-one … Not mentally tough, letting minor injuries linger … Just used on screens, as he is a marginal route runner who looks late for the ball … Needs to protect the ball better and show better anticipation for contact … Will sometimes run up the back of the offensive lineman, but has enough pick-and-slide agility to gain yards inside … Prone to go down from the initial tackle, especially when defenders attack his feet … Has good foot quickness and change-of-direction agility, but is not sudden off cuts, gathering himself before accelerating.

What exactly did Parcells do to ruin Jones? Looks like he is what he's always been.

Parcells possessed the Notre Dame coaches to make Julius do all those things. The omnipotence of Parcells' evil is staggering... hopefully Wade can fend it off with some holy water and some garlic.

If so ... next year will be Julius' breakout year. Or the year after.

Julie Jones has been average at best. His tippy-toeing through the line frustrates me to no end. At our seats, at Texas Stadium, I yell at him and anyone else who will listen... "keep your feet moving"! I would trade him on draft day IF a decent offer appears. I still believe a tandem of TnT and MBIII would be just as effective.

The Skins gave a 3rd for Duckett when they were facing a potentially season-ending injury to CP. At that time, an unproven Betts was their starter heading into a season that looked playoff-bound.

LOL @ that trade...

I skimmed through so I might have missed it, but I wouldn't forget about Turner. What if we gave Julius and a third for him? Or even Julius and a second? Contingent on both sides agreeing to deals with their new RBs, of course. It's a pretty steep price to pay for Turner IMO, but if Wade is sold on him with his up-close knowledge of the player, I'd be all for it.

Just throwing things out there since I still don't get all the hullabaloo about Julius and Parcells.

Jones isn't going anywhere. This year will probably be his make or break season though.

bad move to trade Julius on draft day. You wait until late August when other teams have injuries to their running backs. They will then trade top value for Julius. Thomas Jones is the poster child for pre-draft trades. We wasnt even worth a draft pick - just moving up a few slots in the 2nd round.

After reading that...The only thing Parcells should be blamed for is drafting the guy in the first place.

That report is unbelievably on the mark.

You can't get more than a 3rd for Jones.

And in the 3rd if you use that pick on a RB, you might be looking at guys like Antonio Pittman, Tony Hunt and Brandon Jackson. Of those three, I think only Pittman has any upside above Jones. You might also look at spending a pick on Bush in the hopes he becomes your RB a year later.

What we could do is, if Green Bay passes on Lynch, try to use Jones to trade up to get Marshawn Lynch at 17. That might be a good idea.

I would rather stay at our pick and draft Chris Henry in the second round or Michael Bush in the third.

Although the Cowboys could be shopping Jones with the thought of replacing him with Lynch, I haven't heard that from any media outlet. Has anyone else heard that the Cowboys are interested in Lynch?

Moreover, has there been any pub about the Cowboys being interested in Turner? You would think that Phillips would be in a position to know Turner's talent level first hand.

I don't know if there is any real interest in Lynch but I do believe he was one of the draft prospects they brought to VR.

Get rid of jj I dont mind..the guy has been average at best. Mb3 does the only hard running here and he deserves someone to help him out. Get another hard nosed RB to go along with MB3.

With the top few picks eating up so much salary cap space, it would seem that would be one more reason that teams might be looking to trade down and give us Peterson. :lmao:

Anything Dallas does regarding Julius Jones has nothing to do with salary-cap space. They have plenty of cap room to do whatever they want. They don't think he's an elite runner. They're likely going to ship him off on draft day.

Is this becoming an annual event?

Why would we want to trade one of our young stars for a draft pick?

....must be the off-season.

Seems likely that:

A 1st round DB or WR + Julius Jones > Marshawn Lynch

The Chargers are not looking for another RB as part of any trade for "The Burner." That defeats the purpose. The Chargers are looking for multiple picks for him and look to the roster or a second day pick for the back-up to L.T. Why would we take J.J.?

This resurrection should give us a nice 20 page long thread leading up to the draft.

Amazing Point, friend. LadanianTomlinson, while much more heralded than Jones coming out of college, had a 4.6/mid 4.5-speed. Jones is arm-tackled consistently, can't run behing a fullback adequately, and needs big holes to go far. He is proably, however, our back for this year. Hopefully, he can go back to bieng a cut-back, run all over the place guy he was his rookie year (without fumbling, please god)

Peterson is arguably not only the best back in this draft, he is arguably the best running back to come out since Tomlinson, and he is faster than Tomlinson.

FYI. Tomlinson ran a 4.38 at his combine. I do not know if he still has this speed from his years in the league, but to atribute slow times or say that these two guys are/were faster is incorrect.

College career
Tomlinson attended college at TCU, where he starred at running back, he wore number 5. He was a Heisman Trophy finalist as a senior, and completed his college career with 5,263 rushing yards, ranking sixth in NCAA Division I history. He still holds NCAA records for most rushing yards in a single game (406).
NFL Draft Combine Numbers:
  • 4.38 in the 40-yard dash
  • 41-inch vertical jump
  • 430-pound bench press
  • 610-pound squat
  • 31-inch arm length
  • 9 1/8-inch hands.

Peterson may be the best back in this draft, but he is a big guy who runs upright. He can't stay healthy in college, so there is a question about his durability. Michael Turner may end up being a better RB than both J.J. and Peterson. Time will tell.

Yeah, I remember that 40 time, it was on a fast track . I don't count those. with pads/on grass, it was about 4.5.( For example, Anthony Gonzalez had a blazing speed on the fast track, but on grass, it is almost pedestrian comparatively). Anyways, its irrelevant anymore. Peterson won't be availible to us. I think we should try to keep JJ so we can have two vets in the backfield, regardless of JJ's/Barbers' limitations. Maybe if San Diego does not franchise Turner, we will pick him up in next offseason. ( I don't really want him, but there really isn't a whole lot of other setbacks to choose from worth bank IMO.
