SI Has Tony As The #10 Rated QB.. I don't agree

I couldn't agree more on QBR being vastly overrated. As far as talent surrounding the two, Romo has had as much talent around him as any QB in the NFL since he became a starter, I honestly don't view that as a valid argument.

It's quotes like these that make it easy to differentiate who's opinion to value on future subjects.

The last "good" team Romo had before this year was 2009. Since Garrett took over and purged the roster, which was necessary albeit time consuming, Atlanta has had far superior talent. Not only did Atlanta give Matt Ryan 3 Pro Bowl receiving options, their defense was probably statistically better than ours every season, and their offensive line was much, much better than the Phil Costa era.

Romo is the reason we managed 8-8. With Ryan at the helm, we probably would have had top 5 picks for 3 years while we rebuilt the offensive line and had historically bad defenses.

Romo's done much more with much less for most of his recent career. I watch football, I watch the Falcons. I don't care what anyone says about Matt Ryan, he's not even in the same stratosphere as Romo. And I can guarantee no one in the NFL thinks so either.

"Over the years, football fans have pretty much agreed on which top-tier veteran quarterbacks fall on which tier. The first tier generally includes, in no particular order, Peyton Manning, Tom Brady, Aaron Rodgers, Ben Roethlisberger, and Drew Brees. The second tier: Philip Rivers, Eli Manning, Joe Flacco and Matt Ryan. And then there are the talented but inconsistent gunslingers who float from one tier to another, guys like Tony Romo, Matthew Stafford and Jay Cutler."

Same author, written before the 2014 season. Supposedly, Romo -- the only QB besides Peyton Manning to rank among the top 10 passers each of his last 8 qualifying seasons -- had been inconsistent, but now that's overwith, and he's finally become a second-tier QB, and has even edged ahead of Eli.

All thanks to his offensive line.

This is what happens when writers who don't pay much attention to individual play are forced to respond to a great season by a player they've underrated. They scramble for explanations and end up saying something that makes no sense. Improvements in the team around him helped Romo lead the league in passing. That should have surprised no one. But for someone who considered him a 3rd-tier QB along the lines of a Stafford or Cutler, it's got to be hard to understand, let alone explain.

People don't like to admit they were wrong. In putting Romo into his "second tier," that's what he's doing. That fact, and his awkward explanation of Romo's ascension in his eyes SHOULD make him re-examine his criteria.

These QB rankings always give me a chuckle because of the logic-twisting it takes to rank Tony Romo lower than he deserves to be ranked.

The rankings aren't based on last season, otherwise Romo would be higher than just about anyone.

The rankings aren't based on longevity, otherwise Romo would be higher than a bunch of the young guys whose play hasn't matched their potential *cough* Luck.

They're not based on future years' expectations, otherwise guys like Peyton and Brees would be much lower.

No, they're based on some combination of all 3 as long as Romo receives the short end of the stick. Ridiculous.

Many still see the bobbled snap in Seattle when they think of Romo. They continue to see all the ill-timed mistakes that have plagued his career and until he wins a championship the lack of respect he receives will continue.

this one always gets me, HE WAS HOLDING ON A FG, nothing to do with playing qb !

How does Ryan continually gain more credibility than Romo. If the knock on Romo is what has he done? then what the HECK has Ryan done?!?!

the amazing Patty Ice, talk about choking with he talent he has...sheesh

That's the part that's bothered many amongst Cowboy Nation but his job on that play was to hold and it wasn't the snap that was botched it was the hold.

IMO Flacco is better the his stats indicate. Ryan is not as good as his stats indicate. But neither are better then Romo

IMO Romo is right there with Rivers and Rothlisberger behind Rodgers, Brees, Brady and Manning. You could make arguments for each player being #5. At #8 I would go with Luck, #9 Flacco. 10 would be Stafford, Manning or Cam IMO

This is like trying to get an honest take on politics from the established media.

If Romo played in the northeast, he'd be worshipped. But he plays here, so he'll never get an honest opinion from up there.

He'll shut his critics up for good these next two years. Watch.

You have be a football imbecile not to recognize him as elite. Or lack journalistic integrity.

There are five elite quarterbacks: Brady, Manning, Rodgers, Brees, and Romo. Luck is coming, and Manning and Brees are slipping.

I agree with all of this, but Big Ben is elite. He does suck in Super Bowls, which is a good thing, but I have to say Ben is elite too. Btw I hope none of my pissburg friends are apart of this site to see this coming from me...smh..

Alot of people forget he played with some really bad lines too. Maybe as bad as we had 2010-2012

still doesn't change the fact that what you posted, was incorrect. has nothing to do with what school you or I went to, just making an attempt to verify something before you post.

Big Ben "sucked" in one SB vs Seattle and didn't play very well vs Green Bay in another but played very well vs the Cardinals in SB XLIII. He completed 70% of his passes in that game and drove the Steelers down the field on one of the best last ditch game winning drives in SB history. He avoided several potential sacks to help pull that game out in the end. There's some who've been following the Steelers for many years who think he's better than Terry Bradshaw.

Flacco, Ryan, Rivers are ahead of him... I think he's #5

I have him somewhere there 5-7 range. At least they have him ahead of ShEli.
Am I missing something, I just don't get all the love for Luck...? To me he looks more like potential right now than an elite QB which is where people keep ranking him.
I actually like him quite a bit but I just wouldn't dare put him in the company of Brady, Rodgers, Manning, Brees, or even Romo and Roth RIGHT NOW.
I think he's good no doubt but I still see him as 'not quite there yet' as far as "elite".

Man. If Luck one day actually plays as well as these other top qbs he's routinely placed ahead it would really be something.

The guy is currently one of the most-overrated QBs, if not the most, in the game right now. That said, he does have talent..
