SI: "His absence could wound this club more deeply than it realizes."

It's not emotions, it's common sense. Why create a hole just because you can? The risk of being wrong on replacing Murray with just anyone is missing the playoffs. If he isn't quite as good it's just money, money that they don't want to spend on anyone else anyways.

The Pats have one the best QBs of all time that takes hometown deals and they have one the best minds in football leading them. Trying to copy them will lead you down a rabbit hole.

You keep missing the point. They won't replace him with just anyone. They will bring in a quality RB for less money Ingram, AP, ect. and/or draft a young stud which this draft has a ton of BTW.

Uh, if the FO didn't agree with that, Murray would already be signed.

Not really. They made an offer and he declined. Rumor has it they want to talk after he sees what he can get. It's called being smart.
I know we aren't used to that but it doesn't mean they don't want him.

I think you couldn't be more wrong. "It is just that the fans here seem to think of him as a one-year wonder."
Not just anyone could step in and do what he did. But I can list at least 5 backs that would have put up more yds and TDs and another 5 that could match him easily. The common misconception is that Murray made yards out of nothing. Reality is when he didn't have this line he was mediocre at best and his best 2 games came against an awful Rams team. Before this season guys like Terrell Davis made valid points that Murray runs to darkness and far too often turns out of bounds.

I like Murray. However, he's nothing more than an above average back. He has health issues and has only produced once the line improved. He's just not special. That's why he's not worth more than 6 million a season.

Frankly he never played through injuries until his contract year. He was the same way in college too.

The McCoy trade should tell every Cowboy fan how most teams value the RB position now. It's a devalued position that you can generally fix late in the draft.

You might want to check that. Before this past year he averaged 5 yards a carry. That isn't mediocre.

I didn't say they don't want him.

They don't want to pay him as the top back in the game, which means they recognize that the OL has a lot to do with his success. You think they don't see all the times he's untouched until the secondary?

I have said in every post I have written that he shouldn't get over paid. What's your point?

Randle career avg. 4.8
Murray career avg. 4.8

2014
Randle 6.7
Murray 4.7

I guess I don't view per average carry quite as high as some. That's why I used Randle's stats to compare. Murray wasn't very good until these past 2 seasons.

How about we 'talk turkey' and put or cards on the table with actual numbers rather than debating in grey areas?

What is your clear Line of 'DeMarcation'? The average salary and years you're willing to pay if it's up to you?

Mine would be a maximum of $5 million per year and a 4-year deal for a total of $20 million. If another team is willing to exceed that, I'm wishing him the best and moving on.

Randle in spot duty is 6.7. The staff must not think he could be that great as an every down back or they would have used him more. Why wouldn't they have? it's not like Murray was under some huge deal. Personally I wish they would have. His first two seasons? You mean when we threw the ball forty to fifty times a game?

I'd go the seven mill if they can bonus and front load the money. I'm admittedly not a cap guy. But from what I read it can be done and not hurt or hurt that much. If he gets offered 7 I think they will match that.

No I mean when he couldn't finish the season healthy or missed multiple starts.

Colts will offer him 8-9 mil

I like MURRAY but this was the first season he was healthy. I don't liek it or trust it. If it was a fair deal for us Id welcome him back but if it's over 7.5 a year. I and just like others won't be happy.

Injuries can happen to anyone but in the last 33 games the Cowboys played he has started in 31 or them. The guy is not made of glass he plays a position where guys will roll up on your legs and he has shown he can bounce back from past injuries.

Ouch!

Too rich for my blood!

What is the length of contract you were thinking?

great article. I'm torn on Murray, mainly because of the price.
