Our D didn't "lack talent". We relied on Springs to stay healthy (probably not a good idea) and when he didn't, threw Rogers to the dogs. Then, because we had Rogers and Wright starting, had to move back into a cover-2 and completely f-ed our run defense (which was actually pretty stout heading into week 4 or 5) up.
you forget that you didn't have pass-rushers and finished '06 w/ only 19 team sacks, and because your pass-rush sucked, your cover-2 got exposed, which caused you to allow a boatload of big plays in the passing game, and frankly, Springs is an injury-prone player, I don't know why you're relying on him to stay healthy

So, in summary, you lose your 4th or 5th best player and become a worse defense then Washington (who lost their best) and yet, you are stacked on paper???
Interesting logic...
wait, we lost Ellis? he's going to get beat out by Anthony Spencer anyways
hell, Ware had only 8 1/2 less sacks than your
team, by himself, and then we added a very good pass-rusher in Spencer, w/ Ellis coming in on passing situations, combine that w/ our better secondary, and well, you get the picture...and don't forget our new scheme is much harder for opposing teams to figure out, yet easy for the players to learn
and even if we lose Ellis, which we haven't, one player isn't going to tank our D to Commander level
