Oh, the amount of times I said this before we made the crucial mistake of signing Dak.

Dak needs great everything around him because guys carry him. He’s not in that class like he is capable of carrying a franchise but is paid like it.

I’d rather keep a good team than sign ourselves into mediocrity like we did with Dak.

There is a long list of guys that could accomplish what Dak did this season with the Cowboys supporting cast.
Very true . Dak just ensures this is an average 8 to 9 win team and no CCG or SB potential. Some fools on this board keep throwing Dak in the same conversation, contract cost wise , with mahomes , wilson , Rodgers, or burrow etc . Dak is not in their league talent wise or super bowl appearance or ring wise . But the Dak slobberers won’t learn .

Trent Dilfer, Rex Grossman, Brad Johnson, Neil O'Donnell, Joe Flacco, Colin Kaepernick, Stan Humphries.....

You can get to a Super Bowl without a great QB. You just can't pay him $40 million and expect him to carry you there.
Nailed it .

They wont need Chase. Burrow will elevate whoever steps in next.
Agree . Burrow elevates . Dak sinks the talent around him ( dez , amari , Cee Dee , etc etc ) time has come for him to be accountable

Ex-Browns Star Shares Baker Mayfield Details: NFL World Reacts (msn.com)

Apparently the Browns offered Mayfield 30M a year last year. Baker refused. That's what I've been saying. These quarterbacks coming off rookie deals will not take under market value contracts.

This is an interesting point. I hadn’t seen this before.

And I think this is probably why Jethro was trying to prop Prescott up the last couple years even on Franchise Tag so he would be viewed as more deserving of a Top 5 contract. I believe this drove the trade for Cooper in 2018 and Elliotts contract to prop up Prescott so he’d be viewed as deserving of a big contract.

For the sake of argument Jethro would have probably been criticized if he hadn’t resigned Prescott who was viewed in most circles as enough to build around .Part of the the problem Jethro and our front office helped create as they publicly hyped him as a top QB in the league which appeared to serve as support to meet his contract demands.

And truth be known it’s entirely possible Jethro and those in Cowboys organization believed he was that Top 5 caliber QB.

But I don’t think Jethro had any intentions on cutting ties with Prescott. He’s been All-In on him since he released Romo . Like we’ve seen in past decisions our egotistical driven owner is often determined to prove he was right.

As long as the NFL values QB they will pay to retain them, you can post whatever you choose but the facts are NFL teams pay and that is not going to change. You guys make a big deal over Dak contract? He is paid market value just as all other QB be Wentz or Goff who at the time were the highest paid now not so much as others have leap frogged them and their deals are pretty much avg just as Dak deal is becoming pretty much avg.

Yea, the criticism for Prescott was there on Rookie contract. His new contract just provided more ammo for the critics and trolls.

I always hold the one who pays them or is sold they are worth their demands are the real culprits.

My hunch is Jethro would have received more criticism if he had let Prescott walk than over pay him.

Just look at this off season. Everyone knew we had to make tough decisions to get under the cap. But now all of the criticism is on letting players go.

So, you’re going to receive criticism either way you go.

and that is their problem. I got to the point I don't bother with Dak debates very often, it is a waste of time. Fact is these men are paid very well, hell Deshaun Watson did not even play last season because of legal issues and yet Browns gave up 3 1st rd picks and paid him more money on top of that and there were other teams waiting in the wings for him and what has he accomplished? Not damn thing. The value of the position is what it is.

Right. If fans want to hold some grievance towards someone on these ridiculous QB contracts it should be the owners.

I guess this thread means every team is over the next say 7 years will become bad because of the dollars every team will pay for a good QB. With the cap expected to north of $300 million a year within 4 years, the amount we are paying Dak is going to look like nothing. I would like to know what does everyone think about Arch Manning who will be eligible for the draft in 2026 who is already projected to be the #1 pick in that draft. By his 4th year in the NFL (2029) he will most likely be offered $100+ million a year to extend. Think about that for a moment. And you know he will get it, if he is as good as they say.

We may think all NFL salaries are ridiculous but if the owners keep paying it then it is going to happen regardless of what any fan believes. Jackson, Herbert, Allen, Burrows, and probably a couple of others will have huge contracts in the next two years. And then Dak will be somewhere in the 10 to 15 highest paid QBs. It is crazy.

I don't think Jerry was doing it for that reason. I think in his heart he really believed he was a top 5 QB....I don't think it was about propping him up.

remember, we are talking Jerry. He was in love with Garrett. he is now in love with Moore. he tends to have tunnel vision.

exactly. I have argued this before, everyone keeps talking about getting bunch of players and building a team and point to a QB contract as a hinderence. the fact is finding and paying a QB is the cheapest way to a championship. no team is going to hit on all their draft picks every year. so lets agree on that, so the other route is FA and if you are lucky that a really good FA is going to hit the market, then they are going to cost an arm, a leg and part of you face to sign. and one FA, outside of a QB is not going to be as big a difference maker as the QB. not saying they won't impact, but the QB has the highest impact. so teams are willing to over pay, willing to over draft and reach all in the hopes of finding an Allen, Herbert or Burrow.

so if manning is truly what he is expected to be, my hope is by 2025, we figure out and move on from dak, then totally tank by emptying the roster, end up with a 1-16 record and take him #1 over all. I think in the next 3,4 years we should know where we stand.

I hate the term "market value" as a be-all for all quarterbacks.

Mayfield isn't worth market value. That Watson contract is ridiculous. Burrow and Herbert are worth it; just because a quarterback is done with his rookie deal doesn't mean he's great all of the sudden.

Don't pay an average QB like he's elite. Ever.

but the owners have a cap to work with. and those caps over time end up as cash spent, either today or in the future...at some point there is dead cap, which is money spent in the past, but counts against the cap. at some point, the market will adjust itself, but IMHO not in near future, since cap is expected to jump by 20-25% in the next year or two.....still, cheapest way to the superbowl is through a franchise QB, you just have to find the right one, so owners will always over spend and over draft QBs

So why do you think Jethro did pay Prescott elite money. Does he think he’s elite or are there other agendas at play?
