I wish there wasn't a salary cap for re-signing your own players just a salary cap for outside free agents. Teams should be rewarded for drafting well.

I like that idea. It also provides some continuity and would make rivalries a thing once again.

Did the QB's create this? Or did the owners because they know they have to have that guy?

MIN tagged Cousins and then double down with a 28M guaranteed contract for 3 years. Where did we think it was going from there? Down? And that is for Kirk Cousins!

Wentz and Goff get larger deals and then get traded.

The QB contracts, and especially the guaranteed parts have doubled in 8 years. 8 Years ago we were aghast at the 20M salaries for QB's and now that is becoming standard for DE's and WR's.

The owners are trapped. The cap dictates the salaries and it's going up and they are required to spend a % of that over a three year running measure. The agents are pushing the % that the QB gets of the cap up because there are not 32 good QB's in the NFL and every owner knows he has to have one.

Its 18mil and more like 9-10 after the rookies, but point still valid!

Yeah, I'm counting LCs money. I think that should be available to sing the rooks.

The first time I met Jerry was the first camp without Jimmy....when I was introduced to him....I told him, I want to shake the hand of the man that fired Jimmy Johnson...he got a good laugh out of that.
What did Jimmy do to you? Take a dump under your deer stand? :)

So you solution is, what? Don't have a top QB? Unless there is a league-wide adjustment where QB's stop getting paid so much, there isn't anything you can do unless you just want a JAG QB.

And that's also the point of a salary cap - so you can't make super teams.

They’re going to have to make an adjustment to the salary cap that allows teams to pay their QBs without having to dismantle their team. Franchise QBs are taking up a big percentage of the cap. The Cowboys, Packers and Kansas City had to sacrifice their best receivers because of the cap hit from their QBs.

Amari Cooper, Davante Adams and Tyreek Hill were cap casualties from having to pay big money to franchise QBs. Cincinnati is going to have a problem trying to figure out how to pay Joe Burrow and Ja’Marr Chase….Good luck!

I wouldnt. I dont think anyone on this board would complain about no draft this year if we were celebrating a SB win together. Now you are reaching. But there are fans for sure who would. lol
Plus their current roster. They can sleep during the draft.

Rams: Sign Stafford, bring Bobby Wagner in for visit.

As I said at the time they most likely wouldn’t do it since we brought back LVE. It’s ridiculous but it’s how they think. They just plug holes and don’t really care about getting better.

A lot of times receivers are a product of their QB. It’s going to be interesting to see how Davante Adams and Tyreek Hill do with lesser QBs. Back in the early 80s John Jefferson was the best receiver in the NFL. He was putting up big numbers with Dan Fouts and Air Coryell. He held out for more money and San Diego traded him to Green Bay who didn’t have a top QB. Jefferson’s career went down the drain in Green Bay.

Except we are approximately 28 million under the cap. Make it make sense.
That doesn't sound quite as good when you consider the legit talent we have still on their rookie deals and all the holes that need filling if we want to be legit contenders.

If we were a player or two away, it would make sense but we're not.

I'm not a cap guy and I am sure there will be some book cooking done to mitigate this but at this time Spotrac shows Daks cap hit next year at 49 million and 51 million the following year. There is already a cap hit of 22 million on the books for the year after he becomes a UFA.

We better hope we hit grand slams in the next couple drafts and get great performances on the cheap because the Piper always gets paid.

Are the 2 examples Davante and Hill? Because it was very widely reported that both the Packers and Chiefs offered gigantic contracts that were turned down. Both teams had the $ to pay, they just weren’t willing to commit record breaking $ to a WR.

Looking at sportrac it shows 2 void years. If you average out the remainder into both those years his hit is about 30 million per year. Still a ton of money but not enough to create a Doomsday scenario. As well as when we may release Dak towards the end if there is significant savings post guarantees. Not a cap expert either.

We have a bunch of guys under contract as well as future signings. I'd says it's about the same as most teams; only we have our QB locked up.

Good thing is we have a minimum of probably 3 seasons before we need to move on Parsons and 2 before we move on Diggs. I don't see any other huge signings we need to make before them.

Disagree, losing Cooper will effect Dallas. I think they thought they were signing Gregory with that money and that fell thru - Wagner is asking too much for an old man and Von Miller got way too much for an old man. Now they got Cooper's 20 million and don't know how to spend it - is TM worth what he is asking. I just think now they don't like the perceived value they are getting for their money and would take Cooper back if they could!

Disagree, they were going to lose Cooper or Gallup. They traded Cooper to get cap space. Which makes them better off with retaining Gallup in the long run.
Losing one of the two, of course it hurts the team. But we known the last 2 years it was one or the other.

Here is a good article explaining what happens when you give the qb big bucks. We all already know this, so why is everyone so surprised? A couple of things are garbage in the article as it applies to Dallas, but the fallout from Rodgers and mahomes deals is evident.

We didn't sign a Rodgers or Mahomes unfortunately............:(......Money for nothing and the chicks for free!!!!

Wich is why u better be sure u pay a real franchise qb who elevate every one around him and does not rely on every one else

cowboys did the opposite so it will be a fun few season with dak lol

Name one elite QB that didn’t have elite WRs. I’ll give you a hint it’s not Rodgers, Brady, Burrows, Stafford, Mahomes, Aikman, Montana, Marino, Manning, Elway, Fouts, Young, Luck, Ryan, Roethlesberger, Bradshaw, Favre, or Kelly. :muttley:

I don’t understand the point of any of this. We have almost $18mil in cap space right now. And if you want to win you have to pay for a qb. If you don’t might as well not show up on Sunday.
