Signing a Free Agent Starting Receiver Will Free Up the Draft

I'd rather go after Ronnie Stanley and draft a WR unless Seattle will take a 5th for DK but they won't. None of the WR available in free agency excite me.

WR1- CD
WR2 - Mingo
Slot - Turp
LOL.

That's a bottom half of the league WR corps right there, even with Lamb.

You can get away with that if you have Mahomes or Allen as your QB. We don't. Dak needs weapons and if that's your top 3 WRs next year, that's a problem.

There are two types of FA WRs. Guys like Davante Adams and Cooper Kupp who will command big money. Your not signing these guys for less than 15 mil a season.
Than you have guys like Lockett who is going to want 8 mil a season. I would rather see Dallas bring in Bolton the KC LB
And roll with who they have at WR. Than they can draft a RB and LB with thier first and second pick either order.
You absolutely cannot roll with the WRs you have. We have seen over and over Dak needs help. They need help at WR.

The only way standing pat at WR works is if somehow Mingo develops into some stud but that seems highly unlikely.

Okay, who?
I'd kick the tires on Allen.

Big target, nice catch radius. He's old for sure and slowing down but I think if you want to go WR in FA/trade they aren't going after a guy like Kupp or Metcalf, Allen is one of the better options.

His size and length might mix well with a QB like Dak.

Lamb, Allen, Turpin is a decent Top 3 and then you can still draft a WR, even early, if an opportunity presents itself. But more importantly, with the needs we have, it also frees you up to not force yourself to take a WR early and use those picks on a DL or RB.

This is what the Jones' simply don't understand.

Mingo is in his third year and it was Landry himself that WR take three years to develop so he could still surprise us and has the X build but he definitely needs some competition. Love to get Tre Harris in the draft. A true X receiver would do us wonders.

They have one LB on this team. They also have a major need at RB. We saw Dak when he had Amari and Lamb and it didn't matter. The Cowboys need to fix the defense and start running the ball more.

I am not saying LB doesn't need help but to think we can win with that WR rotation is a real stretch. They need help at WR.

My suggested strategy at this point is to sign a healthy #2 WR as a free agent, to spare us the need to draft one in rounds 1 and 2, whose slots must be used to draft a bell cow RB and a strong DT who can dominate at the point of attack. If targeting a RB in 2nd round, then trade down in 1st round and pick up an extra 3 and draft the best DT not from Michigan (Mason Graham will be long gone).

If Willie Hernandez a free agent guard wants to play in the big D, sign him, so that the two #3's can be used for a LB and a CB.

The free agent who makes the most sense and will be an immediate impact is MLB Nick Bolton of KC. The Boys need to open up their pocket books and get creative, as the fans are severely restless and have lost their confidence in the Cowboys' abilities in putting together a team to challenge for the big cup.
You're clearly not seeing how much they've got a plan for Mingo the new coaches were TOLD before even meeting with the players that Mingo was going to be a major focus in our offense in 2025 lol. Meaning we won't even think of WR until UDFA happens!!

You don’t lose anything but money to sign Kupp and Adams. Both are probably on the Cowboys radar.
And the Cowboys have proven that they hate spending money in free agency. They will flush draft picks down the toilet and shell out insane contracts for "their guys" but are absolute misers when it comes to free agency. Copper Kupp isn't coming over the hill to save the Dallas Cowboys. No one is.

Mingo has 4.45 speed and built like a horse.

2nd round pick. 2nd team All SEC.

Turp is faster.

Yup.

Not sure why there is so much #MingoHate on here.

Kid has talent.

Signing a free agent starting receiver, that is not a huge name, will not make Jerry one dollar more.

And making money is all he cares about.

Winning when it matters is secondary.
I believe he wants to win. I just think he’s too stubborn and stupid to do it the way that works.

Yes he’s about money for sure but he has no idea how to win in playoffs. In regular season he’s solid

He knows how to win ........ put someone good at making football decisions in charge ...... and get out of the way ......... that is what happened with Jimmy Johnson ........ Jerry was busy making the business side profitable again ...... then when he did that he wanted to get credit for being a football mind ...... which he never will be.

He is a narcissistic business man who truly believes he is a good football guy.
