I thought the whole idea was to keep the pocket clean in front of Romo... So we kick Doug Free inside?

This team is just rediculous sometimes. How on earth this is an issue after what we saw last year is beyond me.

I think 99% of Cowboyszone could've done a better job at getting better at the guard position than Jason and Jerry have done.

It's hilarious how the same people who downplay Leary at guard because he hasn't performed in a game are the same who are willing to dismiss Free at guard without even seeing him practice.

I don't downplay Leary. He can probably play but he has his issues.

I put down Free because his skill set does not translate to guard. I don't need to homer applaud every decision this team makes. Especially when it's a bad one.

We should never have been in the position to have to use Doug Free as a guard. Never.

Heck if they would've just called Brandon Moore in April we would've had him. It's a joke how this has been handled

How in the world does this OG stuff get stirred up every week? You take an unpopular player, Doug Free, move him to our crisis position, RG, and everybody automatically starts freaking out again. But nothing's really changed this week. Leary got a scope and will be back. Mack's the other OG. Everything else is the same. The OL has looked good, actually, in the preseason games, with the left side of the line playing really well, actually. Why is this stuff getting stirred up again just because they're looking at Free at RG? Where's the cause for angst?

I'm on record not loving the switch, mostly because I'm more worried about OT depth than the two starting OGs we've got on this roster. But, if they think they could add a veteran OT at cutdowns (Jeremy Trueblood, maybe), or they think Bell's playing well enough for us (I haven't heard that, but, hypothetically), I could get behind putting our 5 best on the field if they think Free can play better than Mack can. It's certainly not a disaster. If he can hack it inside, we've got yet another game day option. If he's really good inside, we might have found a way to upgrade the OL. If he's really bad, we go back to the guy we played all year with last year. What's the big deal?

Depends on whether they have to address the cap situations and set aside money for the signing of guys like Dez and the recent signing of Lee. If we could go back to the offseason before this one, I think most intelligent posters could have done it.

However, I don't think they assumed that just drafting a center was going to be all the improvement. They felt Leary was a player worthy of drafting but knew many teams had red flagged his knee because of the degenerative condition. The thing is, no one knows whether it will be an issue in a year or not for 5 years, the injury he has now isn't even in the bad knee. Heck, might have been that way his entire life and just came to light because of the type of evaluation that goes on with these guys. There are guys that have played with all kinds of unknown medical issues. Irvin had spinal stenosis and never knew it until after he got laid out in Philly. Had he known sooner, he might never have played.

Right know, Free looks better than a year ago. Bernadeau should at least be what he was last year, remember the coaching staff felt he was the second best OL we had a year ago, Frederick will be a big upgrade, Leary will be an upgrade over Livings, and hopefully Smith will be the guy from the second half of last season.

I doubt it on Moore. The guy had done nothing to prepare himself for football after the season. I think if a New York team came calling he might be there, but the way more talked about what it was going to take for him to be able to play, I think he was fooling himself. He was done after game 16 for the Jets.

We probably did call Moore in April. And, if we had him, and he preferred to be retired here in Aug, I'm not sure how much that would have helped.

I was in favor of bringing in both Moore and Clabo in the offseason, too, but if one of them wanted to retire, and the other has been unimpressive in camp, it might not be the worst thing in the world that we went the route we did.

Our biggest issue the last two seasons with the OGs have been the repeated semi-significant injuries to multiple players. Livings, Livings, Mack, Mack, Kowalski, Kowalski, Leary, Nagy, whoever else I'm missing. That's been pretty tough. The guys who've stayed healthiest for us are the ones we really don't want to see playing, anyway.
