"Speculation" or no, if you report something you know is false, maliciously about a public figure, that's defamation (libel).

"Speculation from Bayless..."

"Obviously BP is fueling the fire... he repeatedly pours gasoline on the fire by repeatedly calling him out... he won't even call him by his name, he calls him "the player". John Fox not once questioned Steve Smith's hammy, but BP did.... BP didn't want TO on the team, and only communicates with him through the media... well "they" say they are not communicating."

I don't know if there's a true statement in that whole rant. OK BP does call TO the player, but he calls everybody that. He called keyshawn that yesterday. To use that information as evidence of a strained relationship is at best irresponsible.

now when i say THEY'D call it speculation, don't come running back to me to define what that is. i've been pretty clear (despite some wanting to "make shyte up" about what i've said - oh the hypocracy!) that i think the media is overreacting in as much as the fans are NOW.

if it's a blatant lie - go to court. the "court of public opinion" is usually mob justice anyway.

Here's the thing you have to understand: The media WANTS TO to blow up. They WANT a controversy, because controversy makes headlines, sells magazines and attracts viewers. And by God, if there isnt a controversy, they are going to make one up.

it's rediculous.
it's stupid.
it's a media circus.

but it's the TO show and you can't just take what you want and then cry foul on the rest as it seems so many want to do.

I'll cry foul if I think there is a foul !!

And all of this negative crap about a guy that was nursing a hamstring, but is now playing again ??

That's foul.

The media could stir the same stuff up about moving an OT from one side to the other, moving Adams to 3rd string, starting Romo over Bledsoe, etc. etc.

A guy got injured in training camp, no more, no less, but the media turned it into HEADLINES !!

What is sad is to see all of the Cowboys fans buy into it.

The media has become a joke to me.

Knowing the media is going to do it, does not make it right. Nor does it take away our right to bash the media for doing it.

He was hurt no more no less. This should not warrant the lead story on ESPN and the ridiculous speculation that comes along with it. Just because the media is into yellow journalism and we knew they were going to do it does not mean we should sit by silently and watch.

The NBA refs would definitely cry foul then... they always call fouls when they know the guy's gonna do it... even when there's not a foul:lmao2:

Back on topic.... I for one am tired of the media doing it, which is why I call foul. But I've been tired of the media in general for a while. Only recently have I become tired of the sports media... probably since I've been a member here, coincidence??

Just because the media does it all the time, and we know they're going to, doesn't mean we have to take it. I think they're getting more pressure than ever, hopefully sometime soon we'll see enough pressure for some changes to take place

while you're on your tirade against the media, slide TO some responsiblity for his own actions getting their attention like this.

like i've said - it's crap, but it's the TO show and we're stuck with it.

I have been... but don't tell me I shouldn't talk about it in here. The more people who have their eyes opened to what the media does, the more pressure the media will get.

Oh wait, forgive me for wasting your precious time on an internet message board.

So if you know it, don't buy into it.

This was not an episode, and everyone here should know that. The media created this whole thing.

Didn't Crayton miss games last year?, Henry?, J Jones?, Adams?

The media doesn't question their manhood or accuse Parcells of getting soft.

But let their favorite whipping boy miss some practices, not games, and they start their spin of "HERE GOES TO AGAIN"

The media makes me sick, and it makes me sick to see Cowboys fans jumping on their wagon.

i'm not really defending the media. i'm saying it's human nature to do what is being done and that goes through all walks of life.

Irrelevant. The guy was legitimately injured and missed less practices than a comparable player at the same position who missed 22 games.

END.OF.STORY.

Well, except for the media who will make stuff up if the actual story doesn't match their agenda.
It is not irrelevant. Both Owens and Smith are elite receivers, yet Owens has drawn all of the media attention concerning his injury while Smith hasn't. Not the end of the story.

See I hold both sides to the same standard, If TO f's up then sure get on him, but dont try and create contreversy over an injury, especially when he has done nothing to warrant it while part of the Dallas Cowboys.

Sure he has a PAST. That should have nothing to do with Dallas writers trying to sensationalize a small thing like an injury.

you're right - apologies for the way that came across.

what i'm saying is the rest of the NFL doesn't care, like we didn't care last year. you can't just "care" when it applies to you or your team in this instance.

i didn't hear a single "media foul" last year when TO wasn't a cowboy. now it's all i hear.

now that we have TO, we get the baggage, fair or not. "opening of eyes" is nice and all, but the vast majority hate TO and simply don't care in the same light as we didn't care and rather enjoyed it last year.

but the writers have done it in philly, sf, baltimore - and we didn't cry foul then did we? we only seem to care about even treatment when we're directly involved.

that's my "beef".

steve smith already knows the offense......TO doesn't.....i think thats why people are wanting TO out there soooo bad.....if he has a year with this offense......i don't think it is as bad...other than TO getting the playbook down i could have cared less if he was out there.....all vets are looking for some way to avoid TC.

This was my point in this post... http://cowboyszone.com/forums/showpost.php?p=972508&postcount=23

I think it's not a matter of only caring when it applies to you or your team. I think it's a matter of our eyes being opened to what he may have gone through in those other places...

I'M NOT GIVING TO A PASS ON HIS PAST... but it's hard to ignore the venom the media has directed towards him in this TC. If they're doing that here, what did they do back then. but back then we only accepted it because we were less informed and biased.... like you said.

But that's what the media banks on. They know that 31 other teams and their fans are less informed because they aren't following it like we are. they don't listen to BP's pressers every day. We do, we see the lies, we call them on it. The media is at fault... i know you're not saying they are without fault...

but OUR ony fault is taking what the media said last year and when TO was in SF as the truth. Which we're clearly seeing now, they're not reporting the truth. I was admittedly less informed last year and in previous years. I just joined this board a year ago. I think CZ.com has opened my eyes in the past year, and I want to help open some new members eyes right now to what the media is doing. Not that I didn't expect it, but it's not right.
