Twitter: Skip Peete gives the professional answer

I also know what Pete said to be true about defenders not know how to handle the two. Barry Church said this on his show. How it's stressful tackling a power back like Zeke, then having to change up and tackle a slasher. Said he much rather tackling the slasher

I hear what they are saying, but you can not just throw out the facts. Pollard has been more productive than Zeke and it’s not even close. Yes keep both, but the more productive back gets the most carries.

So you build on those 30 snaps a bit every week until he reaches the playoffs and has peak endurance.

Dude how much football have you played? Football doesn't "build up your endurance." It tears it down. Players are beaten down by season's end not bursting with energy like it was the first day of training camp.

it might help to actually learn to read and understand what the coaches are quoted as saying in this thread before posting

I read it. He can carry the bulk of the RB snaps and be spelled when needed. He doesn't need to have less or even snaps with Zeke. We literally just saw it.

Dude when you start out with just a few reps you build yourself up to a normal amount you gain endurance it doesn't tear you down. See Emmitt Smith/Barry Sanders/LBs/SS?
We're talking about a guy who's been standing on the sidelines 85% of the game it'll take time.

Yep...having two good backs with different skill sets is very irritating.

Ha, Pollard is smart. He didn't want those end-of-the-game runs where the team is just running out the clock and the back gets tackled by 11 defenders. That's gotta be the worst duty for a RB.

This should not be complicated at this point. Zeke=FB. Pollard=HB.

Plenty of plays for both.

Not every back can maintain a high level of production despite taking the beating of the season. Mind you the guys playing defense have been getting beat on too. Everybody's wearing down over the course of the season.. Some guys just wear down faster.. But believe me.. nobody who has played an entire season is as fresh in January as he was on September.. That's just not how this works. He may be freshER than other guys owing to his own physiology, getting deep tissue massages, nutrition, the whole nine.. But the human body needs months to recover from the 50 weekly car wrecks of a football season. The older the player, the longer that process takes.

None of us knows if Pollard is capable of building to where he can play 70-80% of the snaps the way Zeke has been. Even though he had a great game Sunday we still don't know because he barely made it to half the snaps . And said himself he was toast after 31 snaps.. So what if it's not a blowout and the Cowboys need their lead back to actually play the last 10 minutes of the game? Do the Cowboys just line up in 5 wide empty and pass the rest of the way? Wait forget I said that.. Kellen Moore might be listening..

Now the hard part is figuring out how much you pay for only 30 plays from Pollard.

That's the easy part. You adopt a rule: no second contracts for RBs. They're easy to find, transition quickly to the NFL and tend to drop off quickly, to the point that you'll almost never get value out of a second contract. So you pay him whatever his rookie contract demands, which is basically predetermined by draft slot. Then you wave goodbye and find another 4th or 5th round guy to give you those 30 plays a game on a rookie contract. They're available every year.

:laugh::laugh::lmao2:

He did go 5 wides on one of our short yardage situations last week.

Kellen, Kellen, Kellen *sigh*

So what's happening on the other 30 snaps of offense?

He does it every week.. I can't even summon the energy to roll my eyes at it anymore.. Kellen Moore gonna Kellen Moore.

One thing's for sure: if we're trotting Zeke out there (at any price, but certainly at the price his contract currently calls for), we're idiots.

If Malik Davis isn't ready for the role, go find two 3rd day guys in the off-season. If pass pro is your concern, make sure at least one of them excels at blocking.

As a general matter, paying RBs is bad business, for the reasons I've identified.

Generally agree but I prob tag him and get another year. Cut zeke and draft a rb in round 3-5

People want there to be an issue but I said yesterday that I think both guys are doing well because they don't have to carry the entire load. It is a good problem for now. We can't afford to keep both down the road, but worry about that after the season.
