So Fellas, Do You Think Jerry Trades Both 1s For Mcfadden

Marten, Free, Mcq. One of them will be out next LT. I am thinking McQ. Though Free did look good. I doubt that we will use our top pick on a lineman on either D or O. CB, maybe RB. I want another top CB.

The Cowboys have some real needs which must be addressed in 08 draft (FA signings could change our needs) which I see as CB, WR/PR, RB (Julius replacement) & DE/DT (Ratliff/Johnson play EOS might change this need).

No doubt in my mind Jerry wants McFadden if he can get him but it's looking like that's not going to be an option.

Exactly. Jerry has said himself in a press conference that if he could go back and do things differently when the team was stacked in the 90's, he would draft impact players rather than accumulate draft picks.

We are already loaded to the point of having to cut quality players. It's time to draft quality not quantity.

I don't care if we go after McFadden or stay put and draft BPA but I definitly don't see us trading down.

Agreed and if you can get a guy who might be the next Bo Jackson or something to that nature you get him.

If Jerry and Ireland think D Mac is worth 2 #1's then go for it.

I think a guy like him would have more immediate impact than anyone else we could draft.

Agreed...

A legitimate pro LT not late round picks that wont be on the team in 2 years..

From the very little ive seen from Doug Free I think that guy has some potential.

McQuiston too.

Free has very very good feet and balance.

Hey guys, I know the draft is still months and months away, but they were showing on SportsCenter how the teams with the top 5 picks last year are all doing reasonably well this year, given their expectations.

That got me thinking.....if Cleveland goes 6-10 or maybe 7-9 and we end up with maybe a pick between 10-15 range, does Jerry trade our pick (#32 of course!!!) and the Browns pick for say the #1 or #2 overall to get McFadden?

I have to admit that I have never watched an Arkansaw game, only seen highlights on SportsCenter of McFadden. He looks like a BEAST from the highlights, but I was wondering if some of all have watched his games this year.

Is McFadden worth 2 #1 picks???

I like McFadden and hope we can get him but no I would not use 2 #1's to get him.

One need would be a true game breaker in the special teams area. I would hope that the Cowboys would consider a Reggie Bush "type" RB taken to back up Barber next year, return kicks/punts, etc. A 1st round Wide Receiver to develop would be nice as well. Second round, go Cornerback.

I swear, people are so freaking in love with the trade back idea -- but hey folks, guess what, you draft higher then you have a shot at better players!

The trade back concept works when you have a) a flat draft where a group of 20 or so players you have to choose from all have similar grades or b) when you are drafting the type of players that other teams don't want (e.g., small quick LBs in the 90s)

I get what you guys are saying on quality over quantity, but I think it can be dangerous to think like that. You have to remember that there's a lead time on how draft picks affect your club... If we trade away, say, a later first and a second to move up, we won't notice those missing picks right away -- but a couple of years down the road, we will. Players will get older and injured, and especially now with a good team, we'll have to let some good players go in free agency.

I still think you can find very good players in the late first and second... Just because Carp isn't looking good doesn't mean you have to get non-starters in those spots. So I'd rather not trade up, but just try to draft as well as we possibly can with the picks we do have... Or even trade back a little. IMO last year's draft wasn't very good -- Carp and Fasano certainly aren't looking like difference-makers. And I doubt Marten turns out to be much. So I really think we need two or three good players from this coming draft, which two firsts will help with.

But all that said... McFadden is my favorite player in a long, long time and I'd love to watch him play for us every week. So I'd still be happy if he's the one we traded up for. :)

No, no, no, no, Did I say no enough? Id personally go to Valley Ranch and strangle Jerry. If we draft DMC, how will we use Barber? Ill tell ya, hell get about 3 carries a game, mop up duty at the most.

If we re-sign Barber we dont need DMC, we need someone thats a little better than Julius, Like a Slaton or Rice, and we can get THEM in that spot. Now that pair would be fun to watch!

The RB you mention would be Steve Slanton.

Me, I think if you can trade the 2 #1s to get McFadden, then do it -- otherwise guys like DeSean Jackson will be targets.

I agree...Jones even said as much when he was recalling the mistakes of the mid 90's...that we'd have been better served packaging picks to move up and get an impact player, rather than moving down and taking lesser guys

No way you trade those picks for Dmac....

You take Jake Long and best WR/RB (if Jerry lets Julius walk) available....

Jake Long is good, but we have Adams here and might resign him, we also drafted Free who looked very good in preseason/TC before getting hurt

I wouldnt spend our early picks on an OL

we'd use Barber the same way we do now...McFadden doesnt get all the carries at Arkansas, he can split time here too

and everyone keeps forgetting him, but McFadden's backup Felix Jones might be the 2nd best RB in the nation...the kid has tremendous talent...if we didnt get McFadden, I'd be thrilled to get Jones

Exactly.

I don't know what it is with these people that want 15 tackles drafted every year.

The fact is McQ has looked good in the preseason and Free definitely showed he had the footwork to do the job.

At this point I would be shocked to see us spend a 1st day pick on an offensive lineman quite frankly. I could see a #4 on a guard or guard/center but that's about it.

Agreed.

I don't know where the heck these folks that are coming from that want even more offensive tackles drafted.
