While there is no doubt in my mind that Roy Williams (the new one :)) will help this offense-- some.

I just don't think this team's problem is with the offense. This offense will score points-- even if Roy Williams was not the #2 receiver.

But until the mindset/play on this defense improves, I'm not sure if the Roy Williams trade does much more for us than allow this team to beat the cream-puff it will face in the first round of the playoffs.

When this team traded for Charles Haley and drafted Kevin Smith, after the 1991 season, I was confident that the team "found" the missing parts it needed in order to get deep into the playoffs.

I'm not sure the right "missing parts" have been found.

What say you?

And I don't even want to bring up special teams. :(

very good question.....with no answers.

Does a great defense help an average offense?

Does a great offense help an average defense?

Of course they do.

Owens has 23 catches in 6 games. That's not even a 64 catch season. He's seen more double teams than ever. Teams are committed to taking him out of the game.
It's hurting our offense because he's too often Romo's first option and he's holding onto the ball too long.

Williams is a much better player than Crayton or Austin. He will do more against single coverage than those guys. He will draw attention away from Owens and allow him to get more involved.

This isn't rocket science. Roy Williams makes us a better team.

it helps the defense because in tight games (and playoffs obviously) when the boys offense gets slowed down like clockwork (see last 14 games and preseason, many losses) we actually now have a legitimate WR to spread the ball to, without hopes of just a quick strike to Austin or blown coverage.

so the less the defense has to do the better.RW will help keep the defense off the field and allow less of the "pop-gun" offense we have which fails to control the ball in crucial times ;)

I wanted a wr as long as we didn't reach for one however in hindsight I'm happy with the way it turned out. Jenkins is a big upgrade over Reeves.

Yea I think we will be fine If we play more man to man people will stop looking so lost....Even Henry if you see the TD he gave up it's like.....How is he supposed to react......

If we've lost 2 out of 3 games and we're saving stuff for later then Wade needs to be fired right now.

Isn't that the friggin truth.

I'm aghast that someone would actually suggest that's what this team is doing.

your right. We are going to have to hope for better defense in the clutch.

OUr defense is good, just never for 4 quarters. They always have a lapse and it costs the team. Like the other day, 3rd and 17 and you give up 18 yards. This is the nfl that should never happen.

I have faith in the young corners until newman is ready. the addition of williams and watkins will help.

I am very worried about the running games of the next 3 teams. that is where we are going to struggle.

IF this team is going to turn it around, it has to start on defense. If the defense comes out and sparks this team sunday, then this thing could turn around fast. If not it will be us trying to outscore people and that never works.

and I wont bring up the special teams either.

Sounds like they are just going to try and outscore the other team.

One thing to consider if this offense starts humming again in the passing game is, it may mean our D is on the field even more and getting shorter rests between possessions.

was Champ Bailey or Troy Palomalu available in Free Agency? Did I miss something? Pac was acquired to help the defense. Newman is hurt. We drafted two corners including a first rounder.

Yes we did draft corners.

There are supposedly a lot of good players on this defense.

Yet, it still comes up small game after game.

Maybe the addition to the defense isn't a player.

Maybe it's something more fundamental.

Getting RW could help the defense in a round-about way.

If we can move the chains a little more often, and/or keep the ball a little longer each position, the defense is on the field less and stays fresh longer.

If we can score a little sooner, or a little more often, it helps the defense because they are playing with a lead, which is always better for the defense.

I like the RW trade, not only for now but for the future as well. But we won't know if we gave up too much or not for a few years.

If we look back on this trade in 4-5 yrs, and RW has played well and been productive, .. if RW has stepped in and taken over for Owens as our #1 after he steps down, then we won't feel like we gave up too much.

that's what I'm thinking if we get out of this three deep zone and move to more man to man I think our defense will become more dominate....

Only if our corners are good enough to control the other teams WR's man to man.

If this team doesn't win a Superbowl over the next 4-5 years, then I would have to consider the trade an outright failure.

I'd consider whomever was coaching during that time to be the outright failure.

Absurd. Williams can be the best WR in the league, and outplay anyone we could have gotten with that pick, and we still might not win a SB.

The defense isn't failing because it hasn't had enough #1 picks thrown at it. Something else is fundamentally wrong with them.

Really? That makes little sense to me.

2 of our top 3 CB's are rookies, .. I hope you are right.

It matters not these guys are studs. If we go man to man it simplifies things for them and if we get more pressure up front it makes it even easier....So I would be more concerned about the pressure up front than the corners because we get picked apart the more time the QB has.....
