Don Corleone;2341880 said:It does help the defense by keeping our underperforming unit off the field a bit longer while we keep drives alive. Right now, our best defense is keeping our offense on the field.
Just my 2 cents.

MichaelWinicki;2342067 said:If this team doesn't win a Superbowl over the next 4-5 years, then I would have to consider the trade an outright failure.

Kilyin;2342156 said:Seriously, do you ever add anything remotely intelligent to any thread? All you do is make idiotic comments, ask dumb questions, and follow me around calling me a Viking fan. That's called 'stalking'.
MichaelWinicki;2341846 said:While there is no doubt in my mind that Roy Williams (the new one ) will help this offense-- some.
I just don't think this team's problem is with the offense. This offense will score points-- even if Roy Williams was not the #2 receiver.
But until the mindset/play on this defense improves, I'm not sure if the Roy Williams trade does much more for us than allow this team to beat the cream-puff it will face in the first round of the playoffs.
When this team traded for Charles Haley and drafted Kevin Smith, after the 1991 season, I was confident that the team "found" the missing parts it needed in order to get deep into the playoffs.
I'm not sure the right "missing parts" have been found.
What say you?
And I don't even want to bring up special teams.
MichaelWinicki;2342023 said:Yes we did draft corners.
There are supposedly a lot of good players on this defense.
Yet, it still comes up small game after game.
Maybe the addition to the defense isn't a player.
Maybe it's something more fundamental.
Alexander;2342175 said:I would say you are 100% correct.
Every now and then, the offense will not score points and the defense has to be prepared to take up the slack. They simply have to elevate their play.
There have been teams like this over the years (Coryell Chargers, the Vikings in the mid-nineties, last year's Patriots) but the old addage about defense winning championships always applies in the end.
chinch;2342152 said:but you think the #1 (mid 20s) and #3 would create BETTER CHANCES of a superbowl victory?
seriously?
DaBoys4Life;2342174 said:youre not a viking fan ?
MichaelWinicki;2342189 said:It's not just those two draft choices.
Roy Williams will cost this team a lot of money... Money that could have gone to other players.
You can't sign/resign everyone.
And that could very well determine how successful this team becomes, if not this year, then in future years.
Hey, this trade could be icing on the cake. I hope it is.

We've been through this schtick before. I've already told you I'm not a Viking fan. Why would I have contributed money to this message board, and have as many posts as I do? Why would I also have a Cowboys helmet as my avatar?
Use a little common sense, if that's possible.

MichaelWinicki;2341846 said:So How Does This Help The Defense?
MichaelWinicki;2342204 said:I've lost track how many times I've watched this offense over the past 2 years and have thought, "Wow, this is some offense!"
I've never had that thought a single time about this defense-- a least not in a positive light.
Rack;2342217 said:The more points the offense scores, the more one dimensional the opposing offense has to be.
One dimensional offenses are easier to defend.
That's how it helps the defense.
