I never believed Jerry operated as a traditional GM. Always felt he left player evaluation to his subordinates.
Does anyone here really believe Jerry is or will be reviewing film of division II OL prospects the team is considering in later part of the 2010 draft?
He's an overseer and is intimately involved with these decisions. He does have final say, but at the end of the day those "decisions" are simply the result of the input he receives from the scouts and coaches.
The obvious benefit of operating in this manor is that it makes him more to hire the scouts and coaches. More so than any other owner.
Thing is that is what other GM's do as well. They send their scouts out and get feed back from the head of scouting and they get feed back from the coaches. I think you will find it is a group effort around the NFL when it comes to bringing in players.
