So, which free agent WR can Jerry Jones replace T.O. with next season?

9 Drew Carter (RFA) 6-3 200 26 Panthers 15 rec, 179 yds, 11.9 avg, 2 TD
10 Mike Furrey 6-0 205 30 Lions 41 rec, 503 yds, 12.3 avg, 3 TD

i don't see anyone who is in the league with t.o. there, so either you draft a guy, move some of the young guys into starters, or keep t.o.

Those are the only two I'd look at.

there is no free agent or rookie that will give u anything close to the production that TO gives this team.

not only does he give u the passing game, but he keeps the defense honest too. i think too many of you people read and listen to espn a little too much.

TO is jerry's guy, his pickup. and like it or hate it, this team is a .500 team or worse without him, end of story

Let the bashing begin because I'm sure this is going to sound ridiculous to most, but who cares? I don't even think we need to draft or sign anyone. Granted, if Calvin Johnson or Teddy Ginn Jr. fell to our pick, I'd be upset if we didn't draft them.

I'm content with the Future of Hurd, Austin, and Crayton. And you forget we still would have the NFL's best hands in Terry Glenn. You don't need a true number 1 to win. Look at those Pats Super Bowl teams. You cannot tell me Deion Branch or Troy Brown or David Givens were #1's. They were all number 2s. It's all in the system. Plus, Terry Glenn is better than any one those 3. Also, I'm going to say that our JJ/MBIII combo is a million times better than their Antwoin Smith/Kevin Faulk combo or even their Corey Dillion/Faulk combo.

So call me crazy, but I'm content with Hurd, Austin, and Crayton seeing the field more next year without TO. I was on the Tony Romo bandwagon years ago and that worked out. Don't believe me if you don't want to because I could care less. I just remember seeing him run in the GW-touchdown in the preseason on a called spike to stop the clock. I thought that took balls and this kid wants the ball in his hand with the game on the line. Guess I was right.

As for Hurd and Austin, they can play. Both as undrafted free agents came into the league with chips on their shoulders and have done nothing but make the most of their opportunities to play. Austin has been playing with a chip on his shoulder since college. He was underrecruited coming out of HS and ended up at Mommouth. Played like he was supposed to be at a top school and shattered every recieving record at the school. Didn't get drafted and came into the NFL with a chip on his shoulder.

All I'm saying is that if TO goes at the end of this season, I wouldn't care one bit.

I may be wrong, but wasn't Stallworth locked up long-term by the Eagles?

I am sorry but there is no way Hurd, Crayton or Austin command the respect that TO does. You have to game plan for TO. You don't game plan for Hurd, Autin or Crayton. TO is here to stay get used to it.

yup!

Watch how mediocre at best we look without TO.... watch Romo look more like a backup QB. Ask Romo if he wants TO or not... hmmm...

Great thread!

I agree with the theme of this post -- no real maneuvers have to be made to replace Owens next year because he isn't bringing anything special this year. That's not a slam, that's just reality. I think most of the better receivers in the league would have the same type production, if not better, than what Owens has provided if they got the same number of opportunities as he does.

What play has Owens made this year that was truly "Owenesque?" You know, one of the one's where he takes a 5 yard pass to the house, or breaks 2, 3 tackles initially for a huge gain? I see a WR with so-so hands who can no longer do the things that allowed people to overlook the fact that "drops" were a part of his game.

I'm content as well to go with the young guys, and whoever we may pick up in the draft, and feel confident we will be no worse for wear because of it. At this point, the only real benefit we were getting from Owens was his presence opening up some opportunities for others. But as illustrated in the Saints game, this is becoming less and less the case.

lol probably because hes on the Raiders?

no way would any team take Greg Ellis over Randy Moss

well since at least ONE team did, "no way would *any* team..." falls a bit short of reality.

live in the past man, it's kinda fun, if not short on reality.

Parcells is very high on Ernest Wilford. He is big and could complement Glenn very nice. He probably doesnt get you TO numbers but if thrown to alot he can put up good numbers without all the weekly garbage and distractions of TO. I would say keeping TO for 2007 is only about 40% likely.

I agree and while Ellis is still with this team it appears Moss could be out of Oakland at the end of the year. Currently Moss is going through is pouting stage once again and the Raiders are not entertained by this at all.

Ernest Wilford is a guy I wouldn't mind signing if the opportunity was there. To be honest, I'm much more worried about replacing Glenn then I am Owens. Owens is signed. Terry Glenn, on the other hand, guys who have that sort of speed and quickness combination, guys who can catch BBs in the dark, guys who make chemistry work like he does, those are guys that don't come along very often.

Between Ted Ginn, Calvin Johnson, and Sydney Rice one of those 3 guys will fall to us in round 1 and Jerry won't make the mistake of passing up on a stud WR again. Irony is this will be the 10th anniversay (1996 I think) of the Ellis over Moss fiasco.

Hopefully we are picking last in the first round, but I don't know if these guys will be there. Johnson and Ginn, I would think, go top 10, and Rice may be the best one of them all? It would be great if one did fall, but I doubt it.

Sorry about the 2 posts in a row, but just saw this. Are you worried about Glen getting hurt, or leaving? Didn't we just sign him to a 3 year deal?

I Think both T.O. and Parcells will be back next year for a go for it all one last shot, however, I don't see either hear for 2008. We really need to draft a WR and OL very early.

He has a degenerative knee condition. It's a bone on bone situation, as I understand it. Over time, it will only worsen. In situations like that, you never really know how long a player can go. WRs take an average of 3 to 4 years to develope. A guy like Glenn would be very hard to replace IMO. Might make a great deal of sense to start working on that now. JMO of course.

10-4. You are probably right on. I really like Glenn, and think it is great how he has transformed his "attitude" to be a quality team guy. You are right, he will be hard to replace. Hopefully, his knee will last to see him get a ring!
