Some Boise folks really think Kellen Moore can lead us

I'm all for putting smart players on the field, especially at this point in the season. Byron Jones has played the slot, corner and safety very well and he's a rookie What could it hurt.

look, we already HAVE one smart QB and he is out....the Jones' don't need anyone making them look like they don't know what they are doing...(they have that covered)

I am a Boise folk. I watched every home game of Moore's his last 2 years in college in person. And every away game on TV. His measurables are awful. Below average arm. Slow feet. Short for a pro QB. Slight build. That being said, he has "it." He ran a very complex, multi set offense in college. And was a coach to the 10 other players on the field. He can read a defense as quick as anyone. Son of a football coach. Is very accurate with the ball. And because he knows so quickly where to go with the ball, he throws with anticipation. In other words, he "throws his receivers open." His arm is strong enough, but will never be a "drive the deep out" thrower. To me, the most underrated facets of QB play are anticipation and accuracy. He is elite in those categories. I don't know if this is enough to make him a quality NFL QB, but if guys like Jeff Garcia can succeed in the pros (and actually make a pro bowl), so can Moore. And by the way, you don't get to be the winningest QB in COLLEGE FOOTBALL HISTORY without knowing how to play the position. Again, that does not make him a pro QB, but it is worth a shot.

I also know people from the area who watched and say the same thing. When Wade was fired, his head coach was the one I wanted. I have been wanting to see him play after Weeden's first game this year. Why? because of everything you said and because our offense is predicated on the QB taking charge on the field. Moore can do that where Weeden/Cassel can't because they both play scared. Throwing with anticipation is hard thing to master and a sign of a QB who plays to win. It's too late, though. He should have been in last week and we won't see him until maybe the last game. Moore may never get a shot because of those measurables that you mentioned. That's a shame.

They're waiting on approval if he can wear this or not as a starter.

I don't really know much about him, but if he's smart and accurate with the football, he can overcome a lot of physical limitations.

It ain't like Romo has a cannon for an arm. He just reads defenses really quickly, anticipates well, and has one of the faster releases you'll ever see. I'm not saying Moore has those tools, but Romo is proof you can overcome physical limitations that keep you from being drafted as long as you have other skills to bring to the table.

And honestly, he ain't doing anything but auditioning to be the backup next year and beyond. It's something we absolutely have to have locked down for the future and this year is all the proof you need that it's a huge concern.

I rewatched the Grudens QB camp show with Moore yesterday. gruden pointed out that he was not only 50-3 in school but the 3 losses were all within a fg and twice he put his team in position to win and his team missed the fg. Crazy. The kid has a less than perfect NFL arm but might have enough intangibles and accuracy to make up for it. We are in a position to get a free look at him right now. I hope the mental giants in charge take advantage of the opportunity. Maybe he is good enough to keep as your 2 next year and you still draft a qb. If not move on from him.

Linehan loves the guy which is why he is here.

Garrett is just too much of a chicken to take any chance when we are mathematically still alive. It's sad.

I'm conflicted.

Moore is the closest thing we have to Romo, and despite the fact that he's never played a regular season snap in the NFL, I truly believe that he is the best option at QB with the current roster the way it is. I'm not worried about his lack of arm strength, arm strength is overrated to a degree imo. There have been plenty of strong armed QBs drafted in the first that have failed because they didn't posses all the other attributes that Moore provides. The fact that he's vertically challenged doesn't bother me either. People didn't seem to take as much issue with Manzeil's height when he went in the 1st Rd and they are the same height.

I do want a top 5 pick though, and I think Moore can do more to throw a monkey wrench into those plans than Cassell can.

But, I would like to see if he can be a viable option as a backup next year. If he can, I would prefer to see all the reps in camp go to Romo, Moore and a draft pick and not have Cassell steal reps from either Moore or the draft pick.

I read an article the other day where Dez was wanting Moore at QB, maybe a tweet?

I've said this before but this is all JG and Jerry. Jerry wanted Parcells to play the vet Bledsoe and Bill decided in that Gents game to put Romo in against Jerry's wishes and you know what happened!

How anyone could trust Wilson, JG, or Jerry on evaluating QB's is beyond me!

Nice post. Sounds like the Anti-Weeden.

Me expectations for the kid are pretty low, regardless I'd like to see him out there for a game anyway just to see he has anything at all.

If you want to go back even further he sounds like the anti-Quincy. Carter was athletic, had a rocket for an arm, couldn't hit the broadside of a barn and had a head full of rocks.

Don't forget the inability to throw a spiral! An NFL QB that can't throw a spiral???

For all Jerry's mistakes I rank taking Carter in the 2nd round of that draft ('03 I think?) as his greatest mistake. Not just the waste of the draft pick but expecting him to be the QB of this team.

I remember looking up Carter's college stats and seeing that we was less than a 50% passer... I about threw-up at that point. The Cowboys have had a history of high percentage passing QB's and here's Quincy Carter who couldn't even compete 50% of his passes in college... Ugh.
