Probably not a popular take based on the responses, but my guess - This is why the players love him.

How many billionaires will use that as a life lesson? Not to mention dude is 110% optimistic.

This proverb Jerry told was stated by someone else recently. The story of the flea. It may have been in a film. Jerry didn't tell it well at all.

Fleas jump two to three feet in the air. You put them in a jar with a lid, they jump and hit their heads on the lid. After a few times, the fleas will jump just high enough to avoid the lid. If you take them out, they will now jump to the same height as if they had the lid above them. But the story goes further. When they have children, they teach their children to jump just short of the lid, even though they may never be in the jar again.

The irony of this seems to me to say, take off the shackles of life and you can do anything. My thinking is he is talking about the Super Bowl in this chestnut.

However, the paradox is that Jerry has always been the lid on the Cowboy's jar with his demanding to be a football guy and GM.

:hammer:

Gotta give him that. He may be maniacal, but he is money smart.

How does this apply to his job as GM?
Maybe he can think outside the box and sign some marquee free agents next off season?
It can be debated but when you pay top dollar for marquee FA you usually end up losing out, IMHO you end paying for possible production with decline coming sooner rather than later. Marquee FA hardly ever reach FA in their prime.

There has got to have someone worthwhile in the last several years.

Reading between the lines, Jerry wants us all to wear flea collars.

Jerry's analogy is similar to the one about elephants.

In places where they use elephants for work, when the elephant is young, to keep them from wandering off, they place a heavy chain on their leg, which a baby elephant can't break. After a period of time, they remove the chain and place a thin rope on its leg, which the elephant could easily break. But they don't, since in the past they couldn't get loose, they no longer even try.

Jerry said he's seen the flea thing, maybe in college.

While Jerry has said some head scratchers before (no fleas involved), it's not something he dreamed up himself. Just because we don't understand what he said or haven't heard of it, doesn't automatically mean it's not a valid comment....
