This ought to dampen some of the enthusiasm for Wentz.

Pretty soon the dominant narrative will be that the only possibility of acquiring him involves trading for the Titans first selection.

Wentz hype continues - and I'm starting to buy in. Okay with Goff, Lync , or Wentz now at #4 ( subject to change after Senior Bowl ).

If there are indeed 3 legit options for QB, then there will assuredly be an option for us at #4 to take one of them.

I think it's a win-win for us.

If there's three, and all are deemed starting (star) quarterbacks in the future, then we have our pick.

If somehow, the three teams in front of us either pick the quarterbacks or trade to teams that want either of the three and all three are gone when we pick (unlikely, true. But indulge me ...), then it's out of our hands anyway, and we can move on and take the next best available athlete not a quarterback.

And even if the future determines that all three are franchise quarterbacks, no one was certain at the time so our not trading up to pick one should be mitigated against what was thought of the three by today's standards.

From Sturm

What I liked: He has gifts. He can make any throw and he can make it at almost any velocity. I am not sure there is a prospect that can throw the ball harder or further. He has a gun in the truest sense of the word. Now, to make his skillset even more exciting, he can run as well as most QBs could hope to run. This helps him if he were to keep it on a zone read or a 3rd down scramble, but moreso, it helps him move the pocket and keep a play alive. He rolls to each side of the field and then has the mechanics to properly reset his body to fire a strike to the outside of routes to either sideline. His motion is more compact than Paxton Lynch in that with Wentz, it often looks like a flick of the wrist. It also should be said that his ball placement is top-notch. He not only can hit receivers right at their facemask, but he also can deliver balls where only they can catch them. He is an athlete who also seems to see the field very well. He is in total control of the game. It is tough to find labels for what makes a QB great, but Wentz seems to ooze the characteristics you are looking for when you seek "dude qualities" as Trent Dilfer puts it.

Okay, I'm almost to the place where I'm getting sold. I don't think I'll be disappointed at all if we take Wentz at #4. So what if we get it wrong? It's not like teams can't and don't rebound from bad draft picks. That is, unless you're the Cleveland Browns. ;)

I think there's a lot of upside for all 3 QBs. Lynch has been falling lately but he has similar physical attributes as Wentz, played against a higher level of competition, and is 2 years younger than Wentz. I'd be happy with any of the 3 QBs. They all have their pros and cons.

I agree. In the unlikely chance that QBs go 1, 2, 3, we'll have the top non-QB pick in the draft.

And besides, our 2nd round pick is only a couple slots from being a 1st rounder anyway. Perfect time to try and set up our future.

Yep! We can still get a good defensive player/starter and even drop back a few slots and pick up an extra fourth.

However look at the link and you will see they also have Bucky's mock draft there...

Goff 2nd to the Browns
Wentz 15 to the Rams
No Paxton in the first unless I am missing it.

Lynch seems to be getting a little more negative press recently, especially since the Auburn game.

And just think, this process just started and there are over three more months of this to go.

I do agree about not getting cute. If you like Lynch or Wentz, just take them at 4. Not worth trading down, if a team like SF at #7 takes the one you want or a team like LA or PHI trade up and take your guy.

Great question. I am stalling a bit before I marry either idea. Wentz is better now, but is also 23. Lynch 21.

To be fair, they are 14 months apart, not 2 years as he is suggesting. Wentz just turned 23 on December 30th and Lynch will be 22 before the combine.

Main thing if the Cowboys like him a lot then take him, board means little if you end up missing on a player you really like at a position as important as QB.
