Nope. Pretty sure he was drafted by the Blacks during Chapelle's first racial draft.

He's 100% black now.

You sure about that? I thought the asians drafted him and the blacks took OJ.

Now I will have to watch that episode again.

The OP is comparing Pacman to Roethlisberger and asking if Ben has not been subjected to that type of scrutiny because he's white.

Pacman has a long criminal history. Ben has had criminal accusations levied against him by two victims, but has not been charged.

As far as I'm aware Tiger has not been accused of any criminal wrongdoing. I fail to see how he's relevant to Ben and Pacman. Perhaps you could explain it to me.

He was asking if racism is why Pacman got hammered and Ben is given the benefit of doubt.

I used Tiger because for 10 years people gave him the benefit of doubt (even though there was always rumors of his partying)

I was comparing the racism involved ..... not the crimes

I think it has more to do with Ben being accepted by the public already, while PacMan was just some good, NFL corner that only Titan and hard-core football fans appreciated.

The whites took OJ and the blacks gleefully let him go. :laugh2: Hilarious!

There is an argument to be made that Pacman gets more police contact, because the cops have assumed a hostile approach to him, while the cops condone, protect and enable Ruthlessraper. Does this have anything to do with race or is it Pacman's gangsta gangsta image vs. Ben's frat boy one that causes this? Do these images themselves reflect racial stereotypes and profiling? There are a lot of grab and bag former frat boy cops, not so many former gangsta player ones (except in Miami).

Some of you guys keep downplaying the accusations against Ben here. Sure he was accused on time before, but how many other ones have been paid off or just havent surfaced? Isn't it easy to just play it off, but how long has this one investigation against Ben now been around. If law enforcement wasn't willing to press charges before, and now with a D.A. involved you guys still think the charges will be dropped? Even with Ben's expensive lawyers??

Of course there is still racism in America. There are a lot of people out there who, even just on an unconscious level, would be more likely to believe the charges if Roethlisberger were black. Black masculinity is portrayed differently than white masculinity and it always has been. Black masculinity is often shown as aggressive, impulsive and violent even in media created by the black community. In contrast, white masculinity is shown as the John Wayne, solemn, flawed but noble type who turns to violence only as a means of protection or justice.

Just from my own observation from a NFL standpoint, Roethlisberger is getting the Stallworth and Vick treatment. Nothing was done to either of them until an indictment was handed down. When they were, they were immediately suspended indefinitely.

From a public perception standpoint, I think Ben R. is getting hammered by the Pittsburgh media and hardcore football fans, but that's it. The issue is that there really isn't a bunch of news coming out about it in the regular news cycle for it to be on people's brains.

Maybe I'm just being dense. But if you're going to assess whether or not racism exists in this situation, wouldn't you compare people from different races who are in similar situations?

There are a lot of pro athletes who have done what Tiger has done and done it for much longer than 10 years. Steve McNair and Magic Johnson come to mind immediately, though I'm not sure how long McNair did it. Wouldn't we want to compare how athletes from different races are treated when they cheat on their wives, rather than compare someone who has no criminal background to two people who are and have been in trouble with the law?

<sigh>

I was just saying that race has nothing to do with this .... its the lifestyle.

Isn't the construction of the lifestyle a surrogate for race? Threatening Gangsta Gangsta = black. Mostly harmless Frat Boy Party man=white?

Only for the very narrow minded.

My little brother being a prime example.
