after last nights performance, We should be cutting Rush and keeping Grier... Rush is solid but anyone can see Grier has more talent and upside
surely you realize Cooper rushes one games in the NFL and this was a fourth string team that will Grier won in the last preseason game when most of the scrubs are out there?? It literally is the most trash that the NFL teams put out is the last preseason game.... So that's how you're going to judge them Cooper Rush has won NFL games against number ones, versus a guy who had his best game against a bunch of scrubs??? You remember that contract year stuff we talked about and players? This was similar this is will Greer fighting for his life in a game against the worst talent he'll ever face..

So, somebody has to say it you're a really bad judge of talent. I like will Greir he's improved every year but I think he's been in the league what six years this is his best game and it happens to be in a preseason game full of trash..

This is similar to the overreactions to Cooper rush winning games last year, thinking he should be the starter and he was gonna land a job somewhere else..nope :muttley:

let's keep this in perspective, will Greer played very well in a game against trash.. Kudos he's finally getting it but until he does that against number ones in a real live game this needs to stop right now!:banghead:

he minimized his mistakes for three games. got bailed out by the defense. but yeah, he did his job as a back up.

but to say he is starting material is absolutely asinine.
HE is a career back up and that is all he will ever be. But they can have long and lucrative careers so its not a knock; just reality.

As long as the opponent agrees to just play their reserves and PS players, i think Grier can be adequate. Rush has played against the big time competition. Big major freaking difference. So don't get to enamored by last night's performance.
Yes there is a big difference.. However right now I'd say it's a coin flip between Cooper rush and will Greer.. But you are correct the level of competition was very different but so was how the defense special teams run game offensive line played during rush's little run he had last year.. Cooper rush was very overrated last year..

So if you actually take Cooper rushes play at quarterback vs what will Greir might be projected to do, and he has a stronger arm and more mobile it might be a wash..
But I agree you see my other response this is ridiculous knee jerk reaction...

What gives me hope about this coaching staff is done with will Greer if they can do this and better with Trey Lance.. That's the trade off we're trading will Greer for Trey Lance.

no he isn’t. 6-1 in the regular season against legit defenses. If those numbers were reversed I would agree. But we have a backup QB capable of winning games and some dismiss that way too easily!
he is capable of not making mistakes. he is not going to lead anything. and perhaps that's what's expected of a back up QB. during the wins, defense averages 13.5 points per game. so yeah, just let the defense win it for you. no need for you to get heroic. when he is unable to accomplish anything we need the defense to do some scoring, like they did against the Rams and when opponents score more than 20 points we lose.

btw, he is 5-1 for his career. 4-1 in 2022.

Can they cut Grier and bring him back on PS. I am sure someone will pick him up. I have not seen enough of him to say he is better than Rush. Rush did a good job last year when Dak was out. Good enough to get a 2 year 5 million dollar contract. After Rush had his win streak there was rumblings across the NFL about him. I wonder if he would have gotten offered more if he held out some.

yeah understand. some players are just good for backup duty. that's Rush. some players made a career out of it. nothing wrong with that.
as long as we understand he is very limited. some people here are talking superbowl with Rush. seriously!

I agree with you. People make too much of his record. I'm not going to get into whether or not records are a QB stat because there are exceptions but we all sat here and watched Cooper Rush play well enough to not lose the game. Which worked. But you shouldn't settle for that at QB. Which is why they traded for Lance. But in this discussion about Grier and him? Grier hasn't even shown he can play in the preseason. I don't know why anyone would cut Rush for him. That one is a head scratcher.

I didn't think Grier is that good. he struggles in reading defenses and processing plays.
the point you totally missed. you compared somebody's yards to wins/losses.
its like me saying I am 6'.3" and then you respond, but you weight 185...

Rush maybe better. perhaps by a simdgen. that's why cowboys traded for a bust, in hopes of having Rush replaced.
I got your point. I just didn't think it was necessary with such a poor stat line from Will to even compare. I wish dude the best and hope Cooper Rush doesn't have to play any significant snaps this season.

People also forget that Rush during those 5 games had like 4-5 interceptions either dropped or nullified due to a flag. It was not all rainbows and unicorns! I rather keep Grier…
Rather keep the guy with a winning record.

Players tend to suck when they don't get a chance to play. I myself would stick with Grier, bigger stronger and faster with upside. Oh and younger I believe.

Rush is a gamer. He’s Colt McCoy or Chase Daniels. He’s exactly what this team has missed for more than a decade of awful backup QB’s and starting QB injuries. Just keep the team afloat until the QB heals. That’s what you want out of any backups.

Haven’t gone through all the posts, but someone is probably claiming he’s better than Dak. Lol Funny how one game against a bunch of scrubs has changed the perception of Will Grier. One fan claimed immediately after Saturday nights game that he’s the best QB on our roster.

He was Saturday. But what about the previous 2 weeks? He was trash. Rush and Grier are journeyman. TREY IS JUST 23 and has the traits. Its the right move we made.

Grier clearly has more physical talent but lacks it upstairs. Rush has it upstairs but lacks the physical talent.

Bottom line for a backup QB you want a guy who will not lose you games and that is Rush.

Rush went 4-1 against starters in the league, Grier's numbers are against nobodies who are setting in their hotel rooms waiting for that call that today that they're being cut or signed to the Practice Squad.

I don't disagree. I don't think cowboys made the wrong decision with Grier. its a matter of not good or worse. take your pick. right now we are better off with Rush.
