Sorry, but I think this video board is ridiculous

For the record, I don't hate the board. Don't get me wrong, I think it's the coolest damn thing I have seen in a long time.

I do however hate the fact that it is in the way.
In the way of whom?

Mat McBriar?

Punters on 30 other teams?

Or, to date, it is in the way of one punter who intentionally attempted to kick it?

Are there outdoor stadiums with artificial turf? I can't think of any.

There are many of them. The Patriots, Long Horns, and TexasTech have FieldTurf.

Check this link. (High Profile Installtions) Lots of college teams and I can't think of any college teams that play in a dome.

Even if he did Joe Buck said his re-punt had the height to hit it again but was off to one of the sides. And that punt was every bit as much of a punt as any you will see on a weekly basis.

Just posted this to someone else.

Perhaps the Heinz Field does not require artificial turf to correct the problem. Perhaps the Steelers should consult teams with outdoor stadiums and follow suit. So...

Yeah, I know some colleges do but I couldn't think of any pro fields.

That site said Oakland does. I thought they had real grass. Edit: Guess its their practice facility.

New York is listed too. Didn't know that. Edit: And their practice facility as well.

Looks like New England might be the only one.

Umm...

We Cowboys fans watch Mat McBriar punt on a weekly basis...

What is the issue again?

Hmm, I thought they had a retractable roof. Safeco does. Must have gotten mixed up.

When you want max height, you are usually close to the end zone. The board doesn't reach each end zone, it's reaches from the 20 to the other 20 yard line. Plus, it's centered in the middle of the field. ALL punts are directionally punted. Nobody punts down the middle of the field. Which is exactly where the jumbotron is. It is only 50 feet wide. The field is 150 feet wide. It is only 1/3 as wide as the field. To hit it, you have to do it on purpose.

Who goes for max height int he middle of the field....

It was pre-season and they knew they could hit it so they did.

The league rule is 85. If the league wants to change the rule and work with Dallas to get the board raised they can. Jerry didn't make his money by being idiotic and paying 2 mil of his money to shut people up would be super-idiotic. Right now its both free publicity and the responsibility of the NFL.

I thought the Colts chatter was hilarious... we knew it was too low at league standards so we moved ours... but of course they didn't address that with the league even as members of the competition committee.

Every other team in the league is jealous of that stadium and they will be real mad when the league has to eat 1 mil or more to get it raised.

If Jerry made U2 pay 2 milk to raise it what makes anyone think he'll do it for free to curry favor with a bunch of owners that he carries financially anyways.

So, let's review.

The Cowboys' video board is positioned too low.

Punts can hit it.

A league rule is already in place for a re-kick if and when this occurs.

A re-kick isn't the result of a penalty.

Re-kicks are an embarrassment to not all, but to some.

Injuries can result in a punt impacting the videoboard after the coverage team runs down the field.

It is implied that injuries are more likely to occur in this instance than if, for instance, a punt is fair caught or is kicked out of bounds or into the endzone.

The league approved the height, but doesn't want to lift the videoboard on their dime.

Jerry Jones complied with the league, but doesn't want to raise the videoboard on his dime since he followed league guidelines.

Jerry Jones is the Devil.

Roger Goodell is considered to be Satan unless he's making the Devil do something completely opposite of what he told him to do in the first place.

Jeff Fisher's mustache looks x-rated on the videoboard when he's crying about his punter intentionally hitting it.

Bob Sacamano's abs look even flabbier on the videoboard.

Did I leave anything out

When he posted it, I naturally assumed he was showing us the "before" picture. Wrong.
