we need to wait for injuries in training camp.
leary is playing his hand too early?

Probably the wisest course, especially considering we could probably get more for him if a team should lose a starting guard to injury...

What is the level of compensating pick we would get if he is signed to a $6M-$8M contract for a starting G?
Alex Boone contract is $6.7M this year - but Boone is probably better than Leary though you get another year of rising salaries from rising salary cap.

He shouldn't go public because his value goes down.

Now, there's no way I trade him. Worth more to keep.

I don't think you understand how these things work.

Agents and GMs have known Leary was available for a trade for quite some time.

I haven't the slightest idea what the formula is for compensatory picks, however, the Cowboys would get nothing of that sort should they trade him. Personally, I hope they keep him as an insurance policy. I don't think they could get any of the aforementioned need's filled with trading him alone.

Not terribly surprised. Given his circumstance I probably would have done the same thinig. Now the question is do we grant his request and what could we get?

I would say yes, but then again. What exactly are we trying to do here?

Well we probably screwed up by not trading him sooner or we just couldn't get any value for him.

If we can't get a 4th rounder for him then I hope we just keep him.

Dallas will do something stupid though and and trade him for a 6th.

He should request a trade. His UFA value is going to be low if he doesn't see the field.

I think we'd get a 4th highest.

And that's probably after camp starts when teams see that they have a need or one is created by injury. Frankly, him not participating isn't the worst thing since he would be risking an injury that would kill his trade value. Stay healthy, Leary, and be patient.

It will take a few injuries and/or teams realizing the young players on their roster simply are not ready. If Dallas is intent in getting a good return, they'll have to wait until training camp/preseason. Maybe then you get a 5th. JMO....

I find it hard to believe they couldn't get a 4th for him on draft day

in that case, not worth it.
leary is a great backup for 2016.
and we will get a decent supplementary pick if he gets a starting G contract of at least $5.5M or so.

3rd round comp pick - $8 million or more
4th round comp pick - $5.5 million or more.

QB ??????????????

I thought of backup QB, but there really is no way we are going to get a viable back-up even for a starting guard. We'd have to sweeten the deal because honestly there isn't 32 viable starting quarterbacks in the league at this point.

Hmm, I'd look around the league for a player trade. Don't care about draft picks unless it's a first, second, or third.

Not true. If you trade for him you don't run the risk of losing out on him when he's cut.

I'm thinking a 5th or 6th.

A starting quality guard is worth much more than that, but Jerry usually comes up short on trades .

That's the point. He is unlikely to get that kind of deal if he doesn't showcase himself starting. This is a big year for him.
