Thanks, was this from an article or from one of his radio spots on The Fan?

On a side note, I bet this thread is taken over by anti Mickey posts as well as anti Escobar posts...

it was from the latest talkin cowboys. Nothing really was important but i found this to be interesting because of his injury

Yes very interesting. I still would not be surprised if he started TC on PUP, let the other TE's get some work in first. Then bring him off PUP after a few weeks into TC. They can get an extra guy in TC that way even at another position to take a look at to churn the roster a bit. Kind of like they did with a few players last year. Let them get some more sideline conditioning in too.

Thanks for sharing LM. Very surprising news since the injury occurred so late in the season. Marvels of modern medicine I guess...

Most literature says 6 month recovery time but I know most dont feel comfortable until well after that.

I don't know if the rules are still the same, but a few years ago when they went to 90 man training camp rosters they said that PUP guys still counted towards the 90.

Another worthless second rounder, but I don't necessarily blame the guy, we refuse to give him a real chance.

Brad Sham just wrote an article in the Star Magazine....According to his thoughts, Jerry has had more success in the 2nd round than the trifecta of Landry, Schramm and Brandt.

From 67 to 68 they had several good 2nd round picks, Burton Lawless, Doug Donnely were good, but he only gave Ken Norton Jr. a star next to his name. They also had 6 picks in the 2nd round that were maybe 1 year wonders.
Jerry, yes Jerry...you blame him for busts, yuo must also give him credit...
He has 2nd rounds picks of Flo Adams, Larry Allen, Sean Lee, Gurode, Darren woodson and the Moose.
Yes they too have had their 2nd round busts, but the earlier brain trusts had more. He listed 3 names for Jerry, 6 for the earlier years of 67-88...he picked those year as they were the common draft years.

Here is another tidbit from that article....about half of the 1st round draft picks from the 2013 draft, the teams did not pick up the 5th year options for those players.

It has already been known that Escobar isn't someone who will out-quick many LBs with anything resembling quickness and speed. The Achilles injury that he sustained is very likely destined to compromise an already nagging problem insofar as allowing him to gain separation. I'm anything but confident about Escobar's chances to retain a spot on this team. His roster positon has long been considered to be shaky at best, right from the get-go. If he's able to remain, it'll likely be because nobody else is qualified as yet to step up. Rico Gathers should need at least another year to develop.

Learning a new position, much less in the NFL, will most likely take more than a year of development.

Very possibly true. I'm being optimistic, obviously -- although I can't help but doubt it'll take anything terribly impressive to beat out Escobar.

I heard on one of the CBoy podcast shows (forget which one), they said that Swaim would be the odd man out if Gathers shows anything in camp.

That's quite believable as well. To be honest, though, we haven't had much of an opportunity to weigh what Swaim has to offer.

We'll see. It does seem as though the C'boys would have used him more by now if he were worth a looksee.

Swaim is on the team basically for his blocking, and they said if Gathers can show that, his potential would give him the edge.

It would seem to me that Gathers has the size and physicality it takes to block effectively vs. many DEs but I guess that remains to be seen.

I'm hoping we use Escobar and Hanna Alot more in the passing game. Especially Hanna , the guy is suppose to be really fast

Lots of folks, including yourself, have felt that way for a long time about Hanna. Maybe it's his consistency that has held him back.
Of course, when you're competing with Witten for live reps, it's no easy task to outdo what he has to offer. The speed IS there, though.

Yup witten doesnt want to come off the field, Hanna should take over on 3rd and long tho, witten can't break tackles, and Hanna has proved to be a good blocker, and with that speed could really open up the field. 2 tight end sets would benefit us
