Spears not being Tendered... my thoughts !!

I don't know. A 3-4 team, especially one that doesn't allow its linemen to play one-gap like ours, might see going after Spears as a better option than trying to get a DE in the second round. He's been healthy and has become really solid against the run.

Sensabaugh also has a good enough season that some team might be more willing to risk a late second-round pick on him than take an unproven safety in the draft. His character concerns before he came to Dallas might limit the interest, though.

this is a pretty strong draft with respect to DL. it's one of the strenghts of this draft, imo. not sure if anyone wants to part ways with a 2nd for spears in this particular draft.

as for sensy, i think jj would match any reasonable offer. i wish he was tendered a 1st, but even with a 2nd, i don't think he's going anywhere. fingers crossed!

Any drafted player stands a chance of being a bust, and the guarantee of draft success goes down by round.

With Spears, you know you're getting a solid, dependable 3-4 DE. Not a great one (which might be the reason to give up the pick), but at least you know he can start and handle the job. Anyone looking for a pass-rushing DE/DT will definitely stay away.

Actually it was in earlier today.

I know. But you were implying he had until midnight to offer the RFA's the tenders.

Spears and Sensabaugh. Weird offers.

I thought Sensabaugh would get the 1st and Spears at least the 2nd.

well, i guess we'll find out if spears get lured away fairly soon.

i still think odds are he remains on the team, at least for now.

How bad *** would it be to have teams take Proctor, Hurd and Sensy.......

2nd rounders galore.

Not that I don't like Sensy.....just saying.

Oh, I think it's most likely he'll remain. I just think it's a possibility with him that someone will be interested. It would surprise me if he got a big-enough offer that Dallas wouldn't be willing to match it, anyway.

personally, i don't think jj minds if a competing offer comes for players. it helps him to set the price for the players more easily (for long-term contracts). and if he doesn't want to match, he get the pick. kind of let the other team do the work for you. :)

Not enough cold water in the world to bring me off of midnight.

Is this a circus?

What benefit would there have been for the Cowboys to tender Spears with a 2nd? That would have cost them more money for the same compensation.

wait and see what their decision is, I hope they don't tender Spears with a #1 pick.

Although I didn't thought of it before, I do like the idea of tendering him with a 2nd round pick. Perhaps that would entice teams like the Dullphins, Chargers, perhaps NE, or even KC to give him an offer ( as opposed to not even looking at him if he was tendered with a 1st round pick ). That way the Cowboys don't match it and we end up with a 2nd round pick.

KC, NE, and TB all have multiple 2nd round pick and he'd be an ideal fit for them. The Dullphins are a good match too and they do need help along the D-line, but more for the NG position than DE position.

I wouldn't wait too long, I'd read more threads.

I have a feeling Jerry and the Cowboys are DARING Parcells to go for Spears.

I have a feeling that if we lost Spears to another team, Jared Odrick would be our #1 target in the draft. Supposedly, we already like him a lot.

I agree...perhaps the thinking is they would not attempt to resign Spears if he's an unrestricted free agent next year so might as well see if you can get a second for him this year. Bowen and/or Hatcher are probably ready to step up as the starter this year in his place.
